Chapter 34 Chapter Thirty-Three
Chapter 34 Chapter Thirty-Three
2016
Fletcher had been banging on Addison’s door but there was no answer. Robert had gone round the back to see if he could get inside. He peeked through the kitchen window and saw Addison on the floor. He glanced around on the floor for a rock to smash open her window.
“Fletcher,” he called. He grabbed the closest thing he could find and threw it through the window. He used the sleeve of his jacket and removed any remaining glass. Fletcher came round the back and saw Addison on the floor in her kitchen.
“Jesus Christ,”
Robert climbed through the window with Fletcher behind him. He jumped over the kitchen counter and rushed to Addison’s side. Fletcher called for an ambulance.
“Addison.” Robert stroked her cheek. He noticed she had a cut on the back of her head that was bleeding. Luckily, it wasn’t deep. Addison started to come round. Her eyes fluttered open and saw Robert. She smiled.
“You came,” she whispered.
“It’s okay now. Fletcher has called an ambulance.” Robert comforted her. She sat up slightly and glanced around her home.
“We have the wrong guy.” Addison confirmed. “The killer was here.” She told them. Robert furrowed his brow and glanced around. He noticed the note that was stuck on her fridge.
“Why didn’t he kill you?” Robert questioned. Addison shrugged her shoulders.
“He wants me to see what he can do.” She answered. She got up from the floor and Robert held onto her arm as he guided her to the sofa. He sat beside her. “This killer is linked to Alan Reed.
He knows me personally and I think he wants revenge.” Addison said.
Fletcher left the room as he heard the paramedics turn up and he returned with them behind him. They both went over to Addison to check her over.
“The killer is using my father’s motive to use against me.” Addison confessed. The paramedic started to shine a light in her eyes and followed their instructions. She had a mild concussion. The paramedics insisted that she came to the hospital, but she refused.
“You will need to find somewhere else to stay for now. Your place is a crime scene now.” Robert told her.
“She can stay with me.” Fletcher piped in. Robert glanced up at him, for a moment Fletcher thought he was glaring at him. He quickly nodded in agreement.
“She has a name.” Addison scoffed.
“It will be safer for you for now. Especially now that the killer is threatening your life. I want to dig into as much of your background as possible. I know you hate it, but I want to catch this fucker.” Robert said.
“I’ll grab some bits while I’m here and I will meet you at yours. What’s your address?” Addison asked Fletcher. He pulled out his notebook and scribbled down on it. He tore the page and passed it to Addison. The forensics team turned up and now ready to start. Addison went into her bedroom and grabbed a couple of things she will need. Robert was gone by the time she was done so she left with Fletcher.
“I will meet you there shortly.” Addison smiled. She put her bag into the back of her car and watched Fletcher head off too. She got into her car and headed off. She had one stop to make. Addison knew Robert was right, looking into her background as much as possible is the only step they need to take. She finally arrived at the prison and requested a visit with Alan Reed. He certainly had her attention now. They put her into a waiting room while the went to get Alan Reed for her.
They put him into an interview room and cuffed him to the table. Addison entered the room and noticed he had a big smirk on his face. She stood behind the chair opposite him with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Madison, you came to see me, finally.” He laughed.
“Stop playing games with me. Who is he? What do you know?” Addison hissed.
“Sit down,” he replied. Addison stood there glaring at him, she didn’t move at all. He furrowed his brow. “Sit down.” He bellowed. Addison jumped. Her eyes widened. She pulled the chair out and sat down. Alan looked to the guard who stood in the corner of the room and shook his hands. But the guard didn’t remove them.
“Remove his cuffs,” Addison demanded. The guard did as he was told and removed the cuffs from Alan. He could now move freely. He stretched out his arms above his head and reached as far as he could. He then leaned over and started to remove something from his sock. He placed it on the table in front of Addison and pushed it forward. She picked up the envelope and pulled out a photo. She didn’t recognise anyone but Alan.
“That’s Ian Reed.” Alan pointed.
Addison looked confused. When she searched up Ian Reed, he had passed away a few years ago. She glanced at the photo again, but she didn’t recognise Ian at all.
“You’re lying.” She snarled.
“Nope,”
“I knew I shouldn’t have come.” Addison said as she walked out. Alan started shouting for her, but she ignored him. She put the picture back into the envelope and stuffed it into her pocket. She glanced over at the guest sign-in book. She walked up to the desk where a man stood guard.
“Would you mind if I took this for evidence? I want to know who has been visiting Alan Reed for this month?” She asked.
“We have copies, give me a moment and I will get them for you.” He smiled and left for a moment. He came back with photocopies of the guest book and gave them to her. She thanked him and headed back to her car. She sat in the driver’s seat and started to go through each page in the guest book. She found Ian Reed’s name. She was convinced he was dead, but then, he could have faked his own death. Addison wondered if they planned this for a long time. She doesn’t remember Ian Reed at all.
Addison finally drove to Fletcher’s house and knocked on the door once she arrived. A woman with shoulder length brown hair answered the door. Addison wondered if she had the right address.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I was looking for Andrew Fletcher?” Addison asked. The woman laughed as she stepped to the side and invited her in.
“You must be Addison. Andrew told me you would be coming.” The woman said. Addison entered the house and she followed the woman into the living room. “I’m Alicia, Andrew’s girlfriend.” She smiled sweetly and put her hand out for Addison to shake. She took it gently and returned her smile.
“I’m sorry for barging in on you like this.” Addison started.
“Don’t worry, Andrew told me that you needed somewhere to stay for now. He told me your place is currently a crime scene. We have a spare room, so please stay as long as you need.” Alicia offered.
“Thank you, is Fletcher here?” Addison asked. Alicia laughed.
“Fletcher, is that what everyone calls him? He went back with Robert.” Alicia explained. She went into the kitchen and Addison followed. “Would you like a drink?” Alicia offered.
“Yes, please a cup of tea would be great. How long have you known Fletcher and Robert?” Addison asked. Alicia flicked the button on the kettle, and it started to boil. She reached into her cupboard and got out two mugs.
“I’ve been with Fletcher for about a year now. I met them both at the same time. Robert is quite a sullen character.” Alicia laughed. Addison found herself liking Alicia straight away.
“I didn’t get on with Robert at first.” Addison told her.
“I know, Fletcher tells me everything. He is taken a liking to you now I hear. He’s quite a hard person to get on with sometimes. And when it comes to dating, he’s terrible at it. We’ve set him up a few times and not once has any of the girls got on with him.” Alicia giggled.
“Please, tell me more, this is good gossip.” Addison said wide eyed. Alicia laughed and handed her a cup of tea.
Addison spent the last hour or so listening to Alicia and her stories of the guys. She hadn’t laughed so much in her life before.
“Do you mind if I go to bed? I’m so tired from a long day.” Addison said.
“Of course not, is there anything you need?”
“I’m fine thank you,” Addison smiled. She got up and headed to the guest room. She shut the door behind her and grabbed her bag that she had left by the bed. She started to unpack her bits and put her bag back onto the floor beside the bed. She sat down and emptied her pockets. She placed the envelope on the bed and pulled out her phone. She had no messages or missed calls. She pulled the photo back out of the envelope and noticed another photo fell out. She picked it up and recognised the person instantly.
She grabbed her phone and went onto the school website. She scrolled through and tapped on the teacher’s page. She scrolled down and found him. She found the killer. She tapped on the photo and placed her phone next to the picture she had from the envelope. It was him. Ian Evans the science teacher.
“Shit, I found him.” She whispered to herself. She started to dial Robert’s number and it rang it a few times before he answered.
“It’s the science teacher. He is the killer. Ian Evans.” Addison yelled down the phone. Robert told her to slow down. Suddenly, she felt a prick into the side of her neck. Her eyes started to blur, and she glanced up to see a figure towering her.
“Robert, he’s here.” She said before darkness succumbed her.
