Chapter 56 — A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed
Hailey POV:
I was looking at him. I was in the same ambulance as him because I wasn’t hurt that bad. He was really hurt, and the doctors were hesitating about making the right call. They were confused about whether they should take him to the hospital first or perform an operation on the way.
The bullets had pierced deep. I was already in tears. “He’ll be alright, right?” I asked the doctor. He was concentrating on his breathing and looked at the monitor consciously.
“He should be.”
“W-what do you mean should be! He has to be!”
“Please be calm, ma’am. We are doing the best we can.”
I cried and cupped his face. “I love you, Robert. You have to get well and soon. Do you understand me!?”
I saw his lips curl into a slight smile. I smiled widely noticing that. Was I hallucinating or did he really smile?
“We need to speed up the vehicle or an operation will need to be done here. His bullet is seeping in, which is kinda weird. Ralph, check the monitor continuously!”
“Checking, boss!” he replied.
My heart rate accelerated. I couldn’t afford anything happening to Robert. “Please doctor. If you need to, then please perform the operation here. I know you can do it!”
He didn’t reply and just concentrated on Robert. I sighed as new tears fell from my eyes. Please, wake up Robert. I want to see you smile again.
“We’re gonna arrive at LifeWell Hospital, a few hundred meters from here. Hold tight,” the driver replied, and I took longer breaths. A few hundred meters…
I just looked at him and leaned down to leave a small kiss on his cheek. “I know you’ll make it.”
“Okay ma’am, please sit back now. Your kisses can’t save him. We need a very quiet environment now. Matt, I need a dose of…”
I went back and sat in a corner. I just need him to be safe and healthy, then I could kiss him all I want.
If anything happens to him now, I won’t ever be able to forgive myself.
We soon reached the hospital. I was taken to a separate ward as the bullet had just nicked my arm.
As I sat in my bed, I was consumed with the fear of losing him. “Just let me know when he’s okay,” I asked the nurse, who nodded in response.

After a few hours, I woke up. They had given me a dose of a relaxant to help me sleep.
“You’re awake?” the nurse asked me.
I smiled. “Ro-Robert,” I said, my eyes still half-closed. “How is he?”
“Don’t worry ma’am. He made it!”
I smiled widely. “I knew that selfish bastard had to…well, can I meet him?”
“You’re not that well—”
“I just have a minor cut. Please?”
“I will ask a doctor first.”
I nodded and she left. After she came and gave me permission, I went to his ward.
“He should wake up soon,” the nurse in his ward told me as she left. I looked at him and held my breath. He was fine!
I kissed him on his lips once. “I love you, Robert. Now get up.”
He slowly opened his eyes and I smiled. “Robert.”
He smiled. “Hailey…how are you?”
“God damn, really? I should ask you. How are you?”
“I’m fine.”
“You have to be. After all, you are my husband. Who can take you away from me?”
He chuckled a little. “Sure, my dominating wife.”
I giggled and looked at him with love filled eyes. He then sighed and looked away. “I still have to do something. I will kill him. I really don’t care about anything. I just wanna kill him.”
“Robert, we can think about it later.” I cupped his face. “For now, get some rest.”
“But I just—”
“Get some rest.”
He sighed and nodded. I sat there too.

Max POV:
I had been in hiding for the last few months. I had noticed everything that happened, and I thought that Robert would manage it, but I guess he needed a friend to help.
Actually, Robert told me not to come out because if I was found, there would be a lot of questions. So, I decided to do what he said.
But not anymore.
I went out and headed over to Robert’s house. No one knew what happened. Everyone in the news only knew that Robert and Hailey Anderson were shot.
But I had a guess about who was behind this.
“I just have to kill him,” I reminded myself.
I had called Cane and Ron. They would bring the entire Mafia unit and I will kill him today, no matter what. I don’t care if that would risk my life again: I can’t be enough grateful to Robert for what he has always done for me, and to Hailey for what she has done for him.
“Are you ready?” I asked Cane and Ron both in my earbud.
“We’re gonna bust this place in 3…2…1…go!”
I ran inside the house and searched the entire place. There was no one, but I knew where to go next. “Let’s bust John’s private base.”
“Okay.” Cane nodded. “It is good to work with you again, man!”
“Same.”
We went to his private base. Even if I was living under the shadow for many months, I had figured out where they live.
When I reached there, they were laughing and talking to each other. “I’ll go in and surround him and you shoot him.”
“me?” I replied.
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
It was quite a difficult task to shoot someone who looked so much like Robert: but I knew there was a huge difference between both of them.
“Ready, 1, 2, 3, go!” Cane dictated and we busted the place. They, with their entire team, distracted everyone and I went from the backside. I shot him multiple times, till he fell on the ground bleeding profusely. Cane’s team started firing on a few people too, while they all ran for their lives.
“Gotcha!” I smiled looking at John’s dead body.
