Chapter 57: Epilogue

Max POV:

We made it out and let Cane’s dedicated team members clear the mess up. No one knew that there was someone who looked like Robert…and no one ever would.

I was excited to meet Robert and Hailey to tell them the good news, but I couldn’t go there. Even if I was not on the record for the most of my life, I did have a death certificate.

I just messaged Hailey. “I killed John. Let Robert know and yeah…when you two get well, let me know. I want you to visit me.”

I smiled thinking of how happy they would be.

After a few minutes, she replied. “OMG REALLY, MAX!?”

“Yes, Mrs. Hailey :)”

“Oh God…thank…thank you so much!”

“Thank me by visiting me with Robert. Don’t come alone. He will kill me. But come soon.”

“Haha, we will.”

Alex POV:

I reached Summer’s house and took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. She opened the door and gasped when she saw me.

“Alex!!” she yelled and hugged me. “Oh God, I missed you!”

“I missed you more, Summer.” I hugged her tightly.

“Oh Alex…”

I closed the door and looked at her. “I am so happy for us, Summer…”

“I know you are.”

“I am sorry—”

“Shh. Let’s never talk about the past. I love you, and of course, you love me too, after all, I am so good.”

I chuckled at her cuteness. “Yes, I love you, Summer.”

She smiled and hugged me again. Then she kept her hands on my neck before pulling me into a passionate kiss. “I think we need to re-marry.”

“We will. No need to hurry, Summer.”

“No, I just think that we should do it now because later on, we’ll have to take care of our baby and I won’t be very mobile in a few months!”

I smiled. “Okay, baby. We will very soon. For now, let’s go in.”

“Yeah!”

We went inside and talked about a lot of things. She asked me about Cassie. I asked about everyone else.

I realized once again that we were perfect for each other.

Hailey POV:

One Month Later…

Everything was great. Robert was better, and when I told him about John, he didn’t believe me until I showed him that Max texted me himself.

I was really glad. He had almost recovered and today he was being discharged. He told me that the first thing he would do was visit Max.

Next, I convinced him to finally take back his business. He said he would love to see me start one by myself too as a renowned psychiatrist.

Last, I planned to have the happiest future with him. There was still a secret he didn’t know!

They went to visit Max. As happy as Max was, Robert was just as happy to have a friend like him. He respected, trusted, and loved Max more than anyone. Well, maybe less than Hailey.

Still, their trust had grown and now they were like brothers. Who would risk their own life twice?

After they visited him, Robert announced via a press conference that Max was alive. He re-introduced him as his best friend who risked his life twice to save him. He was no less than a war hero.

People appreciated the trio now more than anything. Hailey was an inspiration to people who really knew her, Max was the war hero in everyone’s eyes, and who could beat Robert in his business?

When Robert took his business back, his company was delighted, as well as sad that Hailey wouldn’t come back. Slowly, they had adjusted to her cute and immature leadership. However, they knew what was best for the company too.

When they announced that Hailey was opening a hospital of her own, everyone was overwhelmed.

They met Summer and they were more than happy that Alex and Summer were back together. What’s more, Summer’s baby was completely fine.

“You still haven’t told me how you became the man-who-came-back-from-death!” Hailey laughed when Max visited her at her hospital.

“It was someone else. However, I had to disappear because if you all didn’t believe I was dead, that psycho Ervin would have killed someone else. You know, John was the one to order him.”

“Even him?” she asked, shocked.

“Yes.”

“Oh…this is just like a movie!”

“Yes, it is!” He laughed. “I am glad that everything is back normal.”

“And better. We can never thank you enough.”

“Don’t talk to me like I am some outsider!”

She smiled. “Okay, Max. You are like a real brother to me anyway.”

“That’s good to know.”

“Hey, hey, you guys. Max, do you want me to punish you like I did years ago? Stay away from Hailey!” Robert entered the hospital and started nagging Max, who just laughed.

“We literally just called each other brothers and sisters!”

“I know.” He smiled and kissed Hailey on her lips for a while. “After all, my baby thinks I don’t know she’s hiding something great from me.”

Her face paled. “W-What are you talking about?”

“Let me know when you think you’re smarter!” He winked and left.

“What was he talking about?” Max asked. She smiled.

“You’ll know tomorrow.”

He smiled. “I guess I know.”

“If you know, you know!” She laughed.

“Now the groom may kiss the bride!” the priest announced, and Alex smiled and kissed Summer.

“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”

They both smiled and hugged each other. “I love you so much.”

“I love you more,” Alex replied.

Robert and Hailey were smiling happily in the crowd. Hailey was actually the bridesmaid. Even Max was present.

They smiled and went back to their house.

“So, what do you plan to do about Matt?” Robert asked Alex.

“Well…one of my men told me what he wants. One of my men from the Mafia.”

“What?”

“He just wants to marry Cassie.”

“What? But he could have married her, couldn’t he? Why does he need the Mafia-—”

“I wouldn’t have let him. Uh, back when we were in college, he and I were the worst kind of enemies. He probably would have blackmailed me after he figured out she was my sister.”

“How are you so sure?”

“He gave up on the Mafia after I met him and agreed with their relationship.”

“Whoa, seems like a big problem was solved!” Robert smiled. “Wait, Alex. Let’s dissolve the whole mafia.”

“What?” he asked him.

“I guess we can dissolve the Mafia. You know, Cane and Ron deserve a normal life and so do all the other people.”

“And is it easy?”

“Yes, it is. You’ve got your people back. Free them and tell them to never let anyone know. I will ask Cane to do the same and I am sure he will be free.”

“No one will know?”

“No one.”

He smiled and nodded. Robert added in reference to Summer’s child, “I am glad for you.”

“I am too.” He thought of Summer. “I am gonna love Summer so much now and make up for my mistakes.”

“Same for me…cause Hailey’s pregnant.”

“Hailey’s…WHAT?”

“Yes! And she really thinks I don’t know!” Robert chuckled.

“Whoa, this is such a happy ending.”

“I hope it is really an ending. I don’t want to fight more John’s!”

They both laughed.

Later That Night…

“Hey, Mrs. I-am-the-smartest-on-this-planet!” Robert teased Hailey as he entered the room.

Hailey looked at him and blushed. “I…am not! I know that!”

“Hailey, I know.” He went to her and smiled.

“K-Know what?”

I chuckled and put a hand on her belly. “Know that you are gonna be the reason that I’m the happiest man in the world.”

She blushed more. “I…yes…”

He hugged her. “I love you, Hailey.”

“I love you too, Robert.”

They smiled and tears formed as they hugged each other. They had gone through so much, and now they just wanted happiness in their lives.

“But how did you find out?” she asked him as she pulled away.

“I saw that you bought a pregnancy test.”

“It could have been negative.” She raised her eyebrows.

“I saw the reports you got from the hospital. Do you really think that I could have been at peace without knowing for sure?”

She chuckled. “No, my awesome husband.”

“Yes, my innocent wife!” He teased her and she laughed.

“Oh, Robert, how am I so lucky to have you?”

“Maybe I should be asking you that.” He cupped her cheeks. “I love you.”

“I love you more.”

He kissed her and pulled away. “Now sleep. After all, I am gonna be your servant for the next few months…”

She laughed. “You’re already my king forever. Even if you try hard not to be, you’ll only rise higher!”

He hovered over her. “And what if I try to rise higher?”

“You have already reached the highest place in my heart and soul.”

“What about your brain?” He raised an eyebrow.

“My brain knows that you are stupid, so no, not a higher position there, you selfish bastard!”

He chuckled. “Okay, okay.”

He laid down beside her and hugged her. Everything was bright once again as they laid down with a newborn happiness…or a soon-to-be-born happiness, for that matter.
