Chapter 46 — Truth Is Out

Robert POV:

I was walking out of the hospital, dejected and scared. I didn’t know that she would ever hate me again.

“I told you, it was not gonna work…” Alex told me. “She needs her time”

“I can’t even be with her in her hard times!” I looked at him. “Do you know how that feels?”

“I know! Just calm down…”

“She…she is never gonna be the same! She thinks…I was the one…who tried that…”

“You look the same. When she gets her senses, she will know that you are you and he was he”

“She…” I sighed. “It hurts to see her hate me”

“I know. But she doesn’t hate YOU. She hates HIM”

“But she is hating me!”

“because she thinks that you are him!”

I sighed. “Alex, you’re not helping!”

“What should I do?” He sighed too. “I know that you’re right, but I can't make things better. I can’t make her believe that you and he are different”

I nodded. “I know. I just…want this to pass fast”

“It will, don’t worry”

“Really?” I looked at him. “How long is her treatment?”

“It doesn’t matter how long it is. She can remember—”

“Just say that I have lost her for many months now!” I lost my temper. “Don’t try to comfort me when I can’t be. Please”

He sighed. “Okay. Yeah, but she will be fine after that.”

“I hope she is.” I looked at her ward one more time. “I’ll leave then.”

He nodded. 

“Also, that wicked woman who is my doctor…can’t I change her?”

“Oh, what happened?”

“She is wicked, as I said.”

“Well, apply for a new doctor in the reception. They should give you someone else.”

I nodded and went out of the hospital. Then I called my people and asked them to take me to my house. From my house, I took my car to the hospital.

I can’t really trust any cab right now. Who knows who the driver is?

After I reached the hospital, I went inside.

“Hello,” I said to the receptionist, who looked at me quite taken aback. I know that was because of my behaviour when I left earlier. “Uh, I wanted to change my doctor”

“I am sorry, but Ms. Anne is your best choice because she is the one who is free and also is a specialist in your disease. She also said that she had a personal interest in this case and especially asked us to keep her on it”

“But I demand a change,” I said quietly. This lady definitely has something on her.

“We’ll discuss it with your doctor then. For today, please cooperate”

I scoffed and went to my ward. I couldn’t believe that she would go this down just to keep in touch with me. What the hell does she want anyway?

I laid down on my bed on the ward. Even though I can’t be with Hailey right now, I have to be there for her later on which means that I have to get well.

Even if that means enduring those perverted glances from this woman.

The ward door opened, and she walked in. This time, she had a kind of attitude as she started checking my vitals. Then she checked the monitors a few times, and I was happy because finally, she was behaving like a professional.

“Okay, so, Robert, how are you feeling?”

“Fine,” I replied.

She looked at me and nodded. “Okay, take these pills. Don’t miss any day. Take them thrice, in the morning, evening and night right after your meals. Then we’ll take you out for some exercise”

I nodded and she left. 

Maybe I don’t need to change doctors so badly anyway.

I took the pills and decided to let it be the way it was. It seemed like she had learned her lesson.

Cassie POV:

“What do you want!?” I yelled the third time, while he just sat in front of me with a sinister smile on his face.

“Nothing, dear girlfriend”

Yes, he was Matt. The fucking boyfriend who I was planning on marrying.

“Why…” I closed my eyes and let the tears flow down.

He reached out his hands to wipe my tears. “No, Cassie. You know I love you. But I need to do this to reach your brother. You don’t need to cry. I love you”

“I don’t need…your love…” I whispered as I was breaking down. he sighed.

“You don’t?”

“No…just let me go…”

“You know? if I love you, you’re safe. Still don’t want it?”

I looked at him, unbelievingly. He changed so much!

I just looked down and he got up.

“Okay, tell me something about your family”

“I won’t say a word,” I said, determined.

“Look, Cas. cooperate. tell me, when did Alex last contact his mafia people?”

“What? Mafia? Alex is in the Mafia?”

I looked at him shocked and he looked at me with the same shocked expression. Then a sinister smile appeared on his face, and he let out a wicked laugh.
