Chapter 45 — She Hates Me?
Robert POV:
I was freaking out when I heard the news. Admitted? What the fuck happened to her?
As I went outside, I realized I couldn’t actually go in some Cab like that. Although people have noticed me already and are staring at me like they have seen a ghost, I need to make sure that no one plays tricks on me.
I called Alex immediately.
“Robert?”
“Hey Alex. Where are you?”
“I…well…with Hailey…do you know…she…uh…”
“I know,” I stopped him. “Come pick me up at the hospital. I can’t take any cabs and I don’t have my car”
“Okay”
The call ended and I sighed. Why is everything so bad? can’t we just be happy for once?
After a few minutes, Alex stopped in front of me. I went to his car and then we drove off to the hospital where Hailey was. I still didn’t know how it all happened!
“Alex”
He looked at me. “Hm?”
“How did she end up there?”
He looked down and avoided the question. “I…uh, nothing. I don’t know. I mean, there is—”
“Tell me, fast.”
“Look, Robert, you shouldn’t know.”
“I shouldn’t know?” I laughed sarcastically. “What happened, Alex?”
He sighed. “We’re here.”
“Alex. Answer me!” I was getting kinda worked up. He wasn’t even answering me at all.
“Robert. I’ll tell you later.”
I scoffed and went out. I was scared for the first time. What happened? Why isn’t Alex telling me anything?
I just went inside the hospital.
“I wanna see Hailey” I asked the receptionist, who was shocked to see me.
“Uh! Yes, Mr. Robert! She is in ward 91, on the first floor itself!”
I strode towards the ward. As I reached there, the nurse stopped me from going inside. “Sir, you shouldn’t meet her…”
“Why?” I asked her.
“Uh…ask Mr. Alex…”
I was so frustrated. What the fuck happened? This was the first time I felt so useless and unworthy. Why was everyone hiding things?
I went to Alex, who was standing at a distance from the ward.
“Tell me the truth now.”
He looked down. “See, you can’t meet her, but you can…see her…”
“Enough.” I was gonna lose my temper really soon now. “Tell me!”
He sighed. “Okay. She…um, she was kidnapped”
“Kidnapped!?”
“Yeah…by…by John”
“What the…'' I ran my hands through my hair. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“and…”
“And!?”
“I don’t know, maybe…something happened…or didn’t…I mean, she is traumatized…”
I was completely pale. I couldn’t actually process the words right now.
“Did you…find out what happened?”
“I…couldn’t. I am still in a dilemma about what to do…”
I sighed. “I am a failure. I should have—”
“stop it. You are not. And we’ll figure out everything, just…stay away from her for now”
“but…maybe she would need the love of her husband…”
He sighed. “I don’t know. I don’t think you should”
“I should. let me try”
“Okay…” he said hesitantly. I smiled and stood in front of the ward.
Because there were no nurses right now, I went straight inside. Hailey slowly opened her eyes and as she saw me, her face paled.
“What are you doing here!” Her voice was scared and cold. I stopped. The voice was exactly the same as the one that I had heard a year back then. She was scared.
“Hailey…” I whispered. “It is fine. I am not gonna hurt-—”
“GO AWAY!!” She suddenly yelled at the top of her lungs, startling me. I took a step back. What was going on?
I stayed quiet as I observed her moments. I could only see a hint of disgust in her eyes towards me, which made me tear up. Something broke inside of me as she looked at me as if I was some kind of…monster. It reminded me of all those months.
“W-why…are you doing this…” she whispered, and a tear slid down her cheeks, and mine did too.
“I am…not doing…anything” I whispered back.
“please…leave me alone…”
I looked down. I guess I don’t have a choice.
I nodded. “okay…”
She just looked at me with the same emotions and I couldn’t help but go back out of the room. All the tears that accumulated in my eyes suddenly went down and I felt my heart heavy.
She hates me?
