Chapter 11 was it just a moment?
Madelyn’s P.O.V.
“Those btards.” Stella grumbled angrily, hitting her fingers harshly on the keyboard as if they were her enemies whom she wants to kill mercilessly.
I didn’t speak but closed my eyes. We were now sitting in my apartment. I was lying on the big couch while she was sitting on the single couch, trying to get the footage of that corridor where Oscar attacked me.
“How could they do this to you, Maddie? They literally strangled you. What if …. If it has killed you?” she complained aggrievedly.
Her voice cracked, not because she was overwhelmed by pain, but because she was angry at her helplessness.
“It was Oscar.” I spoke in a very low, hoarse, and painful voice. I was still in so much pain that I couldn't speak.
I had already applied for the leave.
“What? Oscar?” she asked me in disbelief, and I nodded in response by blinking slowly.
“Galvin brought water for me.” I told him the next thing.
I didn’t mean to defend Galvin, but I knew how strict their father is.
Two months ago, Galvin didn’t come to school for almost a week. Later, I accidentally heard Fred and Easton talking about Galvin being punished by his father, and he beat him badly.
So, I didn’t want Galvin to be punished wrongly.
“Oh!” she exclaimed in a low tone, but she was actually relieved.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
I remembered someone taunting Oscar when he released my neck from his grip, saving my life.
That was just a vague memory, as I was already having a panic attack by then.
I remembered the time when my stepfather’s nephew, who is a year older than me, tried to strangle me when I went to their home with my mother.
I was only fourteen, and that btard tried to force himself on me.
I protested and started screaming.
So, in his panic, he strangled me.
I was the victim back then. Yet my mother blamed me for the mess and also branded me as a st at that young age.
“Are you okay, Maddie?” Stella asked me worriedly, making me snap out of those bad memories.
“Yeah. I am fine, Stella.” I replied to her tiredly and slowly put my hand on my arm on my forehead.
“I am going to get some soups and warm drinks for you. You can’t eat, but you need to fill your belly.” She told me in a concerned voice.
I just hummed in response.
I had taken the painkiller, but my throat was still aching badly.
Our mind always played weird games with us.
While gasping for air at that time, my mind pushed me to the time when my mother was leaving home to remarry.
I remembered Oscar holding me tightly. I felt his panic. His body was trembling hard while holding me tightly.
The weird thing is that I actually felt safe in his embrace.
I didn’t remember what I was screaming or why I was screaming, but I did remember Oscar coaxing me.
Why did he do that?
Above all, he left me lying there.
Why did he come back?
Why did he call everyone there, and why did he help me?
The thrill of killing someone is momentary.
I am not the judgemental type, but I know Oscar.
He is short-tempered, controlling, intimidating, and pessimistic. He found pleasure in other people’s pain, but killing someone for pleasure….
No…..
That’s not Oscar, but there is always a thin line between staying sane and rational and losing your mind for cruel pleasure.
Oscar crossed that line today.
What will come next?
One of my subjects is human psychology.
And right now, I was judging Oscar and his action from the point of view of a psychologist.
Either he will be scared by what happened today, or he will go to extremes the next time to enjoy the thrill to the fullest.
I shuddered hard in fear.
I slowly moved my arm from my forehead to my eyes and massaged my throat with my other hand.
I should change the class.
That’s it.
To avoid being seen by them, it’s better if I leave that class.
That way, I will not have the same schedule as them. It’s not possible to avoid them completely, but it will still be in my favor.
I slowly removed my hand from my eyes when the intercom started ringing.
I frowned but slowly stood up.
I didn’t remember ordering anything online, and people here knew Stella.
Then why is the security calling me?
I stood up and went to the intercom near the door.
“Ms. Froste. There is a boy named Fred Cooper. He said that he is your classmate and is requesting permission to enter the premises.” The guard told me in a respectful manner.
My hand trembled so hard that the receiver almost slipped from my hand.
“Hey, Maddie. It’s me. Listen…. You… you know th… that my family is known for its pharmaceutical practice, right? My grandma is a renowned herbalist. Sh…. She prepared an ointment for…. For you know…. I… I brought that for you…. I… I mean no harm, an… and none of them knows th.. that I am here. Please let me in.” Fred spoke to me anxiously, sounding scared too.
“I swear that I mean no harm. There is surveillance here, an… and I am not stupid to… to do something bad and leave the evidence. I really bring th.. that ointment for you. You can trust my grandma’s reputation.” He tried his best to convince me.
My heart was racing a little, and my first instinct was to refuse his entry.
“Did Oscar send you?” I asked him calmly, though.
“What? No…. he doesn’t know an…. And I will be grateful if you don’t tell him either.” He replied to me anxiously.
I could say that he was telling the truth.
I still didn’t want to see him.
Forget it. This is my home, and I also have surveillance inside my unit. If he tries to do something bad to me, I will be doomed.
“Let him enter after proper entry.” I instructed the guard there tiredly.
“Okay, Ms. Froste.” The guard replied to me. I put the receiver back at its place and went to the door to open it.
I was still feeling dizzy and didn’t want to move myself frequently.
I went back to the couch and sat down at the farther side of the big couch. I folded my legs and pressed my heels under my butt.
I closed my eyes and rested my head on my palm.
I wanted to lie down but didn’t want to do it in front of Fred.
Fred Cooper didn’t lie when he mentioned his family influence in the pharmaceutical industry. His family has so many famous doctors and medical researchers.
Fred's mother, Freya Cooper, is also a famous neurosurgeon, and his grandmother from his father's side, Amelia Cooper, is a famous traditional practitioner.
I knew about them because I once approached Amelia's clinic for my grandmother.
I heard the knock but didn't reply to him.
