Chapter 237 A Family of Four Celebrates the Holiday

Chapter 237 A Family of Four Celebrates the Holiday

Indigo was cunning and scheming. He wanted Ulysses to take the fall for Octavia's crime, but worried that Ulysses might refuse and things could spiral out of control, so he decided to test the waters first.

Ulysses ate the food Phaedra served him. It tasted okay, but somehow not fresh that it had that pre-packaged meal texture. He wondered how long it had been stored.

Ulysses took a bite, put down his utensils, looked up at Indigo, then glanced at Phaedra and Octavia.

Without his glasses, his eyes clearly took in the eager expressions on all three family members' faces.

He swallowed the food in his mouth and asked with a slight smile.

"Uncle Indigo, what do you want me to do?"

This whole story about Octavia hiring someone to kill for his sake, it was just an excuse. The truth was, Octavia was jealous of Scarlett and wanted her dead.

"Ulysses, you know how hard it was for me to get to this position. If anything happens to Octavia, my position will be at risk. The Mitchell family worked so hard to get where we are today. At this critical moment, we can't afford any problems. I want you to take the blame for this. Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you."

Ulysses put down his knife and fork, stayed quiet for a long time, then asked, "If I take the blame, Uncle Indigo, how do you plan to clear my name?"

Indigo paused for a few seconds, then said, "I'll have someone prepare a mental health certificate. With that certificate, everything will make sense."

A mocking smile appeared on Ulysses's lips. He asked casually, "Once that certificate comes out, can I still stay at the Mitchell Group?"

If the CEO of the Mitchell Group had mental problems, who would want to work with them? Clearly, Indigo didn't plan to let him keep that position.

But Ulysses had known for a while that Indigo wanted to replace him as CEO of the Mitchell Group, so he wasn't surprised. He just felt that Indigo was exactly as heartless as Scarlett had said.

The Mitchell family looked down on him, used him to make money and climb up, and once he was no longer useful, they kicked him aside.

Outsiders could see right through it, yet he still hadn't.

Indigo kept up his official tone, "Of course you can. Once things blow over, you can come back."

Once Ulysses left the Mitchell Group, there would never be a place for him there again. And after this incident, Indigo was already planning to push him out of the Mitchell Group.

Why should he keep working for the Mitchell family like this?

"Uncle Indigo, I know what to do now." Ulysses responded flatly.

Hearing this, Indigo smiled. He had Octavia pour them both more wine and had her toast Ulysses.

On Memorial Day, Ambrose and Hayden spent the day at Lakeside Garden. Scarlett loved celebrating holidays properly. She planned to take the kids on a picnic and started preparing everything they'd need.

Hayden had never been in Aetheria before and had never celebrated Memorial Day, so he was curious and excited.

He followed Scarlett around, helping out and constantly asking why this and why that. Sometimes Scarlett answered, sometimes Yara did.

Every year during the holidays, Scarlett would teach Yara about the holiday's history and traditions, so Yara knew it all by heart.

So Yara told Hayden everything she knew.

Hayden thought this place was so much fun that he never wanted to go abroad again.

For once, Ambrose didn't work today. He spent the holiday with the three of them. After lunch, he drove them all to the picnic.

The weather was hot, but that couldn't dampen the two little ones' excitement.

Ambrose had people set up a spot by the river in the suburbs early that morning, the best spot available.

The two kids were full of energy. Hayden had never been on a picnic before, so he couldn't contain his excitement.

The two little ones jumped and played around.

Scarlett worried they'd tire themselves out, constantly giving them water and feeding them fruit. Ambrose, watching from the side, pulled her over to sit with him.

"Let them play. You sit here and keep me company."

Scarlett gave him a look but eventually sat down beside him.

Hayden wanted to throw the frisbee, and Ambrose was willing to go with him.

Hayden excitedly played with the frisbee, having a great time.

Yara liked it too, so the two kids had a blast while Scarlett watched from their spot.

While they were playing, someone suddenly shouted.

A child fell in the water!

Scarlett saw that Hayden had fallen into the river. Her heart filled with panic.

As everyone worried, Hayden surfaced, his arms paddling. The river current was strong. Hayden couldn't fight against it, and just as he was about to be swept away, Chase quickly jumped in, grabbed him, and swam back to shore.

Scarlett on the shore breathed a sigh of relief. When Hayden was brought to her, she didn't care that he was soaking wet, she took him in her arms and asked gently, "Hayden, were you scared?"

Hayden, in her arms, was actually a bit scared, after all, the current was strong but he said bravely.

"I can swim."

Ambrose walked over, holding Yara, his voice dark, "This is a river, not a swimming pool. If you'd been swept away by the current, you would never see Scarlett again."

Meeting his stern gaze, Hayden shrank into Scarlett's arms and didn't move.
