Chapter 236 Ashamed and Angry
When Scarlett came out of the bathroom, she saw Ambrose standing by the window with his back to her, talking on the phone.
From his brief words, she could tell it was Chase on the other end. Because of what happened to Orion, she wasn't in the mood to listen closely.
She sat on the edge of the bed, anxiously sending a message to Vaughn. Usually, when she called Vaughn, he would answer right away.
This time, he didn't pick up, and she was worried something had happened to him too.
"I had Chase look into it. Vaughn's fine. He's probably on a mission and can't take calls." Ambrose had hung up at some point and walked over to her.
Scarlett had already sent the message.
She looked up at him. "Can you find out anything about Mr. Philip's situation?"
Ambrose had actually just called to ask about it, and he didn't hide anything, telling her straight.
"Mr. Philip is just being questioned as routine. It's not a big problem."
Routine questioning that you could say it's not a big deal, or not a small one either. But if someone with bad intentions wanted to make something of it, it could become a big problem.
Scarlett understood this all too well.
"Did the Mitchell family do this?" She stared at Ambrose anxiously.
Ambrose sat down beside her, putting his arm around her shoulders. "On the surface, it has nothing to do with the Mitchell family, but actually, it's Indigo causing trouble."
It's obvious that because Vaughn had been opposing Indigo over the matter of Ulysses, Indigo had taken action against Orion.
Scarlett felt terrible. She lowered her head and murmured, "If it wasn't for me, Mr. Philip wouldn't be targeted by Indigo."
"If Indigo can't win Mr. Philip over, he'll make a move eventually anyway. It's just a matter of time." Ambrose stated the facts.
Even though he said that, Scarlett felt it was still connected to her. After thinking it over, she said, "I need to go see my dad and let him know about this."
Ambrose thought for a moment. "I don't think now is the right time to see your dad. It would be too easy for Indigo to notice."
"So we just sit here and do nothing?"
Ambrose thought for a moment. "Let me figure something out. Don't worry about anything right now. Tomorrow is Memorial Day, let's just rest well."
Scarlett's eyes lit up. "What are you planning?"
"I'll tell you once I have something concrete. For now, let's continue what we were doing before." As he spoke, his hand on her arm began to caress her with his fingertips, the meaning clear.
Scarlett understood perfectly what he meant, but right now she had absolutely no interest. Whatever desire she'd had before had completely vanished. She reached out to push him away.
Ambrose had gone more than half a month without sex. Now that she'd agreed, there was no way he'd give up this chance.
He leaned down and captured her lips, gently sucking on them.
Scarlett put her hand between them, pushing against him, not wanting to continue. But she was pushed down onto the bed, and he pressed himself on top of her.
"You just agreed. You can't go back on your word."
With that, he was like a wolf that had been starving for ages, wanting to devour her in one bite.
Caught off guard by being suddenly pushed down, Scarlett was stunned for a few seconds. By the time she reacted, her clothes had disappeared.
In that moment, Scarlett felt something different.
Maybe because it had been so long since they'd been together, Scarlett suddenly missed that intense feeling.
"You missed me." Ambrose said with certainty.
Scarlett's face flushed as she stared straight at him.
The meaning was obvious. He smiled knowingly, then leaned close to her ear and whispered something.
Scarlett, both embarrassed and annoyed, punched him. Ambrose laughed out loud.
At the hospital, in the VIP room, Ulysses, lying on the bed, slowly opened his eyes. In the dim room, the lights soon came on.
"Mr. Mitchell, how did you sleep?" A deep voice sounded.
Ulysses took a moment to gather himself before sitting up, responding expressionlessly, "I feel a bit better."
"Mr. Mitchell, your condition needs to improve gradually, but being able to sleep for two hours just now is already progress." A doctor in a white coat walked over.
Ulysses got out of bed, thinking to himself that it was only two hours of sleep.
"Is there any way to help me sleep at night?" Ulysses asked.
"Given your condition, if you really can't sleep, you'll still need medication to help." The male doctor replied.
Ulysses understood and didn't ask any more questions. He just thanked the doctor and left the treatment room.
Ulysses knew very well that, having suddenly returned to this personality, it would be hard for him to sleep, unless he switched back to the other personality.
"Mr. Mitchell, Ms. Mitchell called you earlier." A bodyguard came over, handing him his phone.
Ulysses took it expressionlessly, glanced at the screen, then put the phone away. He didn't call back until he got in the car.
"What is it?"
"Ulysses, Dad wants you to come over, now." Octavia's voice came through.
Ulysses's eyes, without his glasses, suddenly darkened, but he still answered, "I know."
After hanging up, he told the bodyguard to go to Indigo's residence. Indigo was now the mayor of Silverlight City and lived in government housing arranged by higher-ups.
The car entered the government compound and stopped in front of a standalone house. Ulysses got out and walked inside.
"Ulysses is here. We were just waiting for you to eat. Come have dinner." Phaedra, carrying a steaming hot dish, paused briefly and greeted him with a smile.
"Mrs. Mitchell."
After Ulysses greeted her, Indigo also came out, wiping his hands. Seeing Ulysses, he said, "You're here, just in time for dinner."
Octavia then came out carrying another dish, smiling as she welcomed Ulysses.
The four people sat at the dining table. Indigo was in high spirits and even asked Octavia to open the wine. There was a table full of sumptuous dishes, and it was said that only with wine would it be meaningful.
Everyone got a glass of red wine, and the table was full of delicious food, creating a holiday atmosphere.
"Ulysses, try this dish, it's really good." Phaedra put food in Ulysses's bowl.
Ulysses responded coolly to Phaedra's attention. Actually, he could guess what this kind of concern meant.
He didn't say anything, just ate with his head down. Then Indigo suggested they all have a drink. The four of them raised their glasses and went through the formalities. After putting down their glasses, Indigo started talking.
"Ulysses, I've been using my connections to help with your case. Unfortunately, Vaughn won't let this go. I was planning to drag things out with them for a while and find a way to get that Mellon family woman to agree to drop the charges. But Octavia was too hasty. She couldn't stand seeing you suffer even a little, so without discussing it, she had someone go after that Mellon woman. Now they've got hold of that too. What do you think is the best way to handle this?"
Ulysses understood what Indigo meant that he wanted him to take the blame for this too.
