Chapter 214 Rumors
Last night, Ambrose didn't stay over, actually following what Scarlett had said. For some reason, Scarlett felt a sense of loneliness in her heart.
Ambrose said he wanted to pursue Scarlett, and he really took action. Morning, noon, and night, he sent messages to Scarlett. Although they were brief questions about her three meals, his attitude showed he was serious.
Today, Scarlett went to the office. After not showing up for a few days, her colleague Cleo Roberts immediately asked about her situation. The matter with Ulysses was kept very quiet and hadn't leaked out, so they didn't know about it.
Scarlett just said she wasn't feeling well and had been resting at home. But during lunch, Cleo secretly told her.
"There's a rumor going around the company that you were assaulted by Ulysses."
Scarlett didn't know where the information had leaked from. She just asked with a blank expression.
"Do you know where it came from?"
Cleo shook her head. "But I first heard it from someone in Team Two. It's hard to say exactly who started it."
Scarlett looked thoughtful and lowered her head to eat.
"Ms. Mellon, Ms. Roberts, you're eating here?" Echo walked over with her tray. There was still space near them.
Echo sat right down.
Scarlett looked up at Echo and asked, "Echo, has anything big happened at the company lately?"
Echo's face immediately lit up. "Something big? There actually is, and it's about you."
"About me?"
"Yeah, a couple of days ago, the young lady from the Mitchell family came to the company looking for you. When she heard you weren't there, she went to see Mr. Boleyn. Ms. Mellon, what did she want with you?" Echo asked with a curious look.
Octavia actually came to the company looking for her? Why didn't Ambrose tell her?
"Could she be looking for you because of Mr. Boleyn?" Echo asked again.
Scarlett looked at Echo with a dark expression. Echo immediately explained.
"A while back, didn't you have that scandal with Mr. Boleyn? Mr. Boleyn and Ms. Mitchell are boyfriend and girlfriend now. Maybe she heard something and came to give you trouble."
"I have nothing to hide, and I'm not afraid of anyone coming after me, or anyone spreading rumors behind my back. But once I catch whoever's spreading rumors, I'll definitely sue them for defamation."
Echo naturally caught the hint in Scarlett's words, and her face immediately stiffened.
Cleo then asked, "Ms. Bell, someone's spreading rumors about Ms. Mellon in the company now. Do you know who's doing it?"
Echo kept her head down, eating. "I really don't know about that."
"It's fine, I'll investigate. Once I find out, I'll send a lawyer's letter." After dropping that hint, Scarlett stood up.
"I'm done eating, I'll head out first."
Cleo wasn't finished yet, so she continued eating with Echo, saying quietly.
"Don't mind her, let's eat." Then Cleo leaned in and asked, "You really don't know who said it?"
"How would I know?" Echo glared at Cleo impatiently. Cleo just acted like nothing happened and continued eating.
Scarlett could guess who was spreading rumors, it was Echo. Echo was Ulysses's person. Last time, she had wanted to use Echo to trap Ulysses, damage his company's reputation, and compete for the Serene Bay Peninsula project.
But later, Ambrose changed the plan and partnered with Ulysses, so the plan wasn't carried out.
She sent Ambrose a message.
[How are you planning to deal with Echo?]
Ambrose quickly replied: [Can't get rid of her yet. I need her to feed false information to Ulysses as a cover. But you can teach her a lesson.]
Scarlett thought for a moment, then said: [Okay.]
As for teaching Echo a lesson, Scarlett hadn't thought of a good method yet. She needed to think it over carefully.
Scarlett spent the day going between the construction site and the office. After work, she made dinner plans with Caspian to thank him for his help last time.
The dinner location was a restaurant. Because it was so popular, she couldn't book a private room, so they chose to eat in the main dining area.
Scarlett said seven o'clock, and Caspian arrived right on time.
"Mr. Anderson, please sit." She gestured with her hand.
Caspian's face still wore that calm and composed expression, and his eyes looking at her were extremely clear and clean.
"Have you been here long?"
"Just got here." Scarlett poured him coffee.
They sat down and had coffee. After one cup, Scarlett ordered food. After ordering, they chatted casually. During the conversation, Caspian asked about her injury, and Scarlett asked him.
"Ulysses got out on bail. He hasn't given you any trouble, has he?"
Caspian smiled faintly. "We're relatives. No matter how angry he is, he won't do anything to me."
"What's your relationship?" Scarlett knew they were relatives but didn't know exactly how.
"He's my uncle's son." Caspian explained.
Ulysses and Octavia were cousins, which meant Caspian's mother was from the Mitchell family.
"But my mom passed away a long time ago. I rarely interact with the Mitchell family now, just maintain some distant ties." Caspian said.
Scarlett lowered her eyes. She really hadn't expected this kind of relationship.
"Ms. Mellon, do you mind that I'm related to the Mitchell family?" Caspian picked up on Scarlett's expression.
Just as he finished speaking, they heard a voice.
"Caspian, you're here too?"
They both looked up at the same time and saw Octavia standing in front of them, staring at them both.
Scarlett thought it was really a case of enemies meeting on a narrow road, they could run into each other even here.
