Chapter 186 Only for This Moment
The moment Ulysses hit the ground, he was completely stunned. The next second, he roared in anger.
"Xander, teach this bitch a lesson."
Xander stepped forward. Scarlett pointed the stun baton at him, "You dare touch me, I'll zap you too."
Without a word, Xander disarmed Scarlett in two moves, then threw her onto the bed.
After handling everything, he walked over to Ulysses and helped him up. "Mr. Mitchell, are you okay?"
"My whole body's numb right now. Help me to the bed." Ulysses felt terrible, filled with both hatred and rage.
Scarlett, on the bed, retreated toward the headboard. She spotted an ashtray on the nightstand, quickly hid it in her pocket, and waited for the right moment. When Xander was settling Ulysses down, she suddenly bolted for the door.
"Stop her, don't let her leave." Ulysses lay on the bed, keeping his eyes on Scarlett the whole time.
Xander quickly let go and chased after Scarlett, blocking her path. "You'd better stay put here. After Mr. Mitchell recovers, you can talk to him then."
Scarlett certainly wasn't going to just sit there waiting. "I have nothing to talk to him about. He lied to me."
"Let me tell you something—I don't have the evidence. Even if I did, there's no way I'd give it to you. But you, I'm definitely having. Let's see if you can walk out of this room today."
Ulysses had dropped his fake mask now, done with beating around the bush.
Scarlett remained calm. "You think I didn't prepare a backup plan? If I'm not out this door in ten minutes, the police will show up. Let's see how you explain that."
Ulysses rested his hand on his forehead, recovering for a moment. Feeling his body coming back, he sat up and stared at Scarlett. "When the police come, you'll be labeled a prostitute. I'm just a client—after all, you came into my room on your own." With that, he directed Xander to bring her over.
Xander moved fast, grabbing Scarlett and throwing her onto the bed. As soon as she landed, Ulysses pinned her down, so quickly that Scarlett had no chance to fight back. In desperation, she pulled out the ashtray and smashed it against his head.
A piercing scream filled the entire room.
Before the screaming stopped, there was knocking at the door. Xander didn't open it but went to check on Ulysses first.
"Mr. Mitchell, you're injured."
"Hold that bitch down. I'm going to make sure she pays for this."
"Don't worry, she can't escape. Let me take you to the hospital first—your head's covered in blood." Xander's voice was urgent.
The knocking at the door grew louder. Scarlett seized the chance to run over and open it. As soon as the door opened, she saw two police officers standing there.
"We received a report of illegal activity here."
Scarlett held up the ashtray in her hand. "Someone in there did try to assault me. I used this ashtray to hit his head in self-defense. That's not illegal, right?"
The two officers fell silent.
Ulysses got his head bandaged and was taken to the police station. Scarlett was brought along, too.
After giving her statement, Scarlett sat in the lobby waiting for the outcome, while Ulysses was still inside. His lawyer arrived quickly, and he was soon bailed out.
Scarlett called Briar to come bail her out. Just as Briar arrived, Ruben showed up too. When they met, they glared at each other with hostility.
The bail process for Briar was very complicated, but with Ruben's secret help, it was quickly completed.
"Ms. Mellon, you've really impressed me!" Ruben said sarcastically.
Briar glared at him. "Who are you? Does Scarlett need your approval?"
"If it weren't for me just now, do you think you could've left so smoothly?"
"Scarlett acted in self-defense—that's not illegal. Why wouldn't they release her? Yet you let the attacker go. Is this your idea of justice?" Briar argued forcefully.
Ruben chuckled lightly. "Ms. Mellon entered that room on her own. The other party could say Ms. Mellon came to attack him."
That reason was actually pretty solid.
But everyone knew what really happened. Ruben's words clearly showed he was on Ulysses's side.
Scarlett looked at Ruben and replied calmly, "Thanks, Mr. Lawson. If it's really that difficult for you, you don't have to help me."
Ruben was instantly speechless.
Scarlett and Briar walked out of the police station. Suddenly, a car stopped in front of Scarlett, and Chase's face appeared.
"Ms. Mellon, please get in."
Scarlett glanced at Chase without saying anything, then looked at Briar. "Briar, you go back first. I have something to take care of."
Briar thought about Ambrose and Octavia's behavior and felt unhappy. Scarlett quickly reassured her.
"It's fine. Some things need to be settled."
Briar knew what she meant and reminded her, "Call me if anything happens."
Then Scarlett opened the back door and saw Ambrose sitting inside. Without saying anything, she bent down and got in.
The car started and merged into the traffic on the main road.
Scarlett looked out the window, not planning to speak. After driving for quite a while, Ambrose finally spoke.
"You promised me you'd keep your distance from Ulysses. You're going back on your word?"
Ambrose's voice was emotionless, but those who knew him could tell he was angry.
But Scarlett didn't care. She turned her head and smiled slightly. "Our agreement was non-interference. Are you trying to break the rules?"
His narrow eyes narrowed slightly, a chilling light shooting through the slits. Scarlett remained calm, just smiling.
"Scarlett, do you know that provoking Ulysses is asking for death?" Ambrose's tone was icy and angry.
Compared to his anger, Scarlett just laughed lightly. "Whether I'm asking for death or not is my business."
Her attitude was clearly distant and cold.
Ambrose reached out and grabbed her wrist. "Nothing happened between Octavia and me. Don't overthink it."
How could Ambrose not guess that her actions were related to him and Octavia?
But such an explanation was weak. Scarlett didn't believe it and didn't want to believe it. She said, "I don't want to know about your business. Don't interfere with mine either. Let's both follow the rules."
The same thing she'd said before. Each of Scarlett's words was like a knife stabbing straight into his chest, making the fire in Ambrose's chest burn fiercer.
"Rules? What rules? Did we sign something?"
Scarlett looked down and smiled. "You're right. A deal with nothing written down—what kind of rules are those?" She looked up and stared at him steadily.
"Ambrose, let's end this. Find time to take back your things from my place."
Her eyes were sincere, without pretense—she genuinely wanted to cut ties.
Ambrose stared back at her. After a long while, he also laughed lightly. "You did all this just because of that?"
Scarlett didn't respond, her silence serving as an answer.
