Chapter 180 Confession
Scarlett was currently a designer at the Boleyn Group, which meant she was not supposed to take on projects from other companies on her own.
She thought for a moment and said, "I'm an employee of the Boleyn Group now. If you want me to design something, you'll need to go through the Boleyn Group."
Kenna nodded, "I thought about that. I'm asking you first to see what you think. If you agree, I'll have my friend contact the Boleyn Group."
Back then, Scarlett only agreed to help Ambrose with the art museum project. She never said she'd design for other companies. But once she opened that door, it would be hard to turn down other projects in the future.
After thinking it over, Scarlett wanted to take on this project privately, without going through the Boleyn Group.
But she'd need to explain this to Ambrose. What if he didn't agree?
Scarlett felt troubled.
Kenna and Finnian stayed for dinner. The food was all home-cooked, but Kenna enjoyed it, saying it was much better than restaurant food, and declared she'd come over for meals more often.
With Kenna around, Finnian didn't say much. He just quietly listened to Kenna and Scarlett talk.
"Scarlett, look at this nephew of mine. He thinks being silent is good. How's he going to find a girlfriend like this?" Kenna turned the conversation to Finnian.
Scarlett looked at Finnian. He wasn't usually this quiet with her, but today he really wasn't saying much. Maybe it was because his elder was here that he was being so reserved?
She smiled and explained, "Kenna, Finnian's usually pretty talkative. Today he probably just can't get a word in because you're here."
Kenna stared at Finnian, "He's usually talkative? I find that hard to believe."
Scarlett smiled and didn't continue. Kenna asked again, "Scarlett, could you introduce him to some girls? He's at this age and still doesn't have a girlfriend. I'm worried."
Scarlett laughed, "Lots of girls like Finnian. He doesn't need me to introduce anyone."
"Lots of girls like him? You're kidding me." Kenna said while picking up food with her chopsticks.
"Aunt Kenna, that's enough. Why are you talking about this during dinner?" Finnian interrupted.
"See, Scarlett, he listens to you more. Help me talk to him about finding a girlfriend soon," Kenna took the opportunity to say.
Scarlett smiled slightly. How could Finnian not have a girlfriend? Maybe he just hadn't told his family yet, so she didn't respond. She didn't know what to say anyway, since it was his private matter. Besides, her own love life was a mess, she had no business getting involved in other people's affairs.
After dinner and coffee, Kenna and Finnian said goodbye. After they left, Scarlett went to take a nap.
But just as she lay down, Finnian called. He explained that Kenna had originally wanted to talk to her about the guesthouse, but when she heard Scarlett was injured, she dragged him along to visit.
"If the guesthouse project isn't convenient for you, just turn it down," Finnian said.
It really wasn't convenient for Scarlett, but Finnian had helped her so much. She didn't want to refuse his aunt's request.
As they talked, Scarlett brought up his girlfriend in a joking tone.
"Finnian, when are you going to bring your girlfriend out to meet us?"
Finnian laughed lightly, "What girlfriend? I don't have one."
Scarlett was surprised, "Finnian, you're not fooling me, are you? With your qualities, who'd believe you don't have a girlfriend?"
"What qualities?" Finnian asked.
"You're talented and handsome!"
"Is that how highly you think of me?" Finnian teased.
"Of course."
Finnian laughed, "Scarlett, actually there is someone I like. I just don't know how to tell her."
Scarlett's interest was immediately piqued. "Finnian, if you like her, just tell her! Maybe she likes you too, but is too shy to say so."
Finnian tested the waters, "She'd like me?"
"How will you know if you don't try?"
Finnian was silent for a moment. "Should I try then?"
"Go for it!"
After Scarlett said this, she heard Finnian say, "Scarlett, the person I like is actually you."
Scarlett, holding her phone, froze. She thought he was joking. "Finnian, stop kidding around."
"I'm not joking. It's true. I've liked you for a long time, since college. After you got married, I kept these feelings to myself, thinking I'd never let you know. As long as you were happy, that was enough. But then you said you got divorced, and that's when I came back to the country."
In that moment, Scarlett was stunned. She never imagined Finnian would like her, and for so many years.
She didn't know how to respond.
Finnian's feelings were completely unexpected.
"Scarlett, I never knew how to tell you. Today, with this opportunity, I'm saying what's in my heart. Don't feel pressured. I know you just ended a marriage and probably don't want to start another relationship so soon. But since we're on this topic, I still want to tell you - if possible, please give me a chance."
After hearing this, Scarlett said, "Finnian, I..."
Finnian quickly cut in, "You don't need to answer right away. Think about it. I don't care about your past. I only care about the future."
"Finnian, I'm a divorced woman with a child. It's really..."
Finnian knew what she was going to say and interrupted again, "None of that matters. People don't care about these things anymore. I know what kind of person you are."
Finnian's confession really caught Scarlett off guard. She'd always seen him as a mentor, nothing more.
Finnian had liked her all this time, keeping these feelings hidden in his heart. Thinking about this made Scarlett even more troubled. She opened WhatsApp and confided in Briar.
[I need to tell you about something unexpected.]
Briar quickly replied, [I actually have something unexpected to tell you too. You go first.]
Scarlett told her about Finnian's confession. Briar replied instantly.
Briar: [I saw it coming. You're the only one who didn't notice.]
Scarlett: [You saw it? Why didn't you tell me?]
Briar: [Actually, I noticed it at my birthday party. After that, I was busy dealing with the Reed family, so I didn't get a chance to tell you about this.]
Scarlett: [I really had no idea.]
Briar: [Finnian is a good guy. He's liked you for so long without saying anything. He knew you were married and kept those feelings buried, just wanting you to be happy. Men like that are rare.]
Scarlett: [I think so too.]
Briar: [Scarlett, think it through carefully. Finnian is someone worth spending your life with. You could give it a try.]
Scarlett: [I don't have the energy to think about relationships right now. Finding my child is the most important thing. As for relationships, I really haven't thought about it.]
Briar: [What about Ambrose?]
