Chapter 181 Partners on the Bed
Ambrose was just an accident, and this accident wouldn't last long.
Scarlett chuckled softly and sent a voice message.
[Ambrose is my partner.]
Briar sent back a voice message: [Bed partner? Scarlett, you're keeping up with the times now. You found yourself quite a catch, but be careful. That night you got hurt, I saw the way he looked at you—not like an ordinary partner at all. Those people who hurt you, do you know what happened to them? Their hands were broken, and they were kicked out of Silverlight City.]
Before Scarlett finished listening, Briar sent another message. She clicked to play it.
[That night, the way Ambrose looked at Finnian said it all: 'This is my woman, stay away from her.']
Briar's description was quite vivid, but Scarlett's attention was on what happened that night.
Those people had their hands broken and were kicked out of Silverlight City?
She thought they'd been sent to the police station. No wonder no one came to question her—that explained it.
[Actually, from what I can see, Ambrose treats you pretty well. Take my birthday night, for example—I benefited from being with you. You don't know this, but my sales have doubled now. I'm top in the company, and I'll make good money this month.]
[But even though he treats you well now, with his family background, it'll be hard for you to marry him. Plus, Octavia is his son's mother. It'd be annoying to see her around all the time. If she turns her son against you behind your back, your life married to him won't be better than it was in the Ross family.]
Scarlett listened to each message, then replied: [We could never be together anyway, don't worry about that."
Briar picked up on her firm tone and asked curiously: [You really don't have any feelings for him at all?]
Feelings?
Scarlett couldn't deny that when they had sex, what Ambrose made her feel really couldn't be put into words.
As for other times, she stayed rational and didn't dare let her guard down. Though sometimes the things he did could touch her heart, it only lasted a moment—the trouble that followed canceled out any feelings.
She replied: [My feeling is, just enjoy the moment, don't think about anything else.]
Briar: [You've finally awakened as a woman.]
Scarlett: [What bothers me now is Finnian's confession. After all, he's different from Ambrose.]
Briar: [He knows about you and Ambrose, and he still confessed without caring. That shows he really doesn't mind. He's really determined. This kind of pure love is rare to see. Scarlett, I'd say you were unlucky to meet a scumbag like Wesley, but then you met someone pure like Finnian. Should I feel sorry for you or envy you?]
Scarlett smiled bitterly. What was there to envy? She was only twenty-five and had already tasted every kind of trouble.
[By the way, when I was delivering your video, I ran into Ruben. I hadn't really dealt with him before and didn't know he was so annoying. Today I really got to see it.]
Briar told Scarlett in detail how Ruben annoyed her. Scarlett wasn't surprised and told Briar about what happened when Ruben first met her. Briar replied: [That kind of shallow man is so annoying."
They chatted for a bit, then Scarlett lay in bed, her mind still a mess. She needed to think carefully about how to respond to Finnian's confession.
When she woke up, Scarlett got a call from the police station. They'd found out who brought Zane into Lakeside Garden—it was indeed a resident there.
The woman brought Zane in purely out of pity. Zane had manipulated her, saying Scarlett was his daughter-in-law, that Scarlett had cheated and sent his son to prison. The female resident had seen Scarlett and Ambrose together several times. Hearing how pitiful Zane sounded, her sense of justice swelled and she volunteered to bring him in.
Since the police couldn't prove it was intentional, Scarlett couldn't say much more. The female resident was lectured by the police, but since she hadn't done anything too bad, they let her go.
After Zane was taken to the police station, his illness flared up and he was sent to the hospital. Given his condition, the police couldn't detain him at all.
After thinking it over, Scarlett felt she needed to see Wesley. The two of them constantly tormenting each other wasn't getting them anywhere.
The next day, Scarlett left the hospital and headed straight to the detention center. But at the entrance, she ran into Delta.
"You still have the nerve to come here?" Delta glared at her as if Scarlett were her enemy.
Scarlett laughed, "Even if this were your home, I'd still have the nerve to come."
"Don't think that just because you have Ambrose, you can be so arrogant. Someone of your status can't enter the Boleyn family. Don't fool yourself."
Looking at Delta, Scarlett just found her ridiculous. Not wanting to waste time arguing with her, she casually tossed out a line, "Your brain is just there to make you look taller."
With that, she walked forward, too lazy to waste more words. Delta stood there puzzling over what Scarlett said. When she finally got it, she realized Scarlett was calling her brain useless.
"Your brain is the useless one." By the time Delta shot back, Scarlett was already gone. She stamped her feet in anger.
"Scarlett, I'll definitely teach you a lesson."
Soon, Scarlett saw Wesley. The moment she laid eyes on him, she almost didn't recognize him. Wesley had lost all his former spirit—only dejection remained. His lips were covered in stubble, his eyes lifeless, his face haggard. Where was that elite, handsome look from before?
Was this his karma?
"What are you doing here?" They faced each other through the bars, Wesley's voice clear.
Scarlett pulled herself together and said coldly, "You had your dad try to kill me, I had to come find you."
Wesley frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Scarlett raised her injured hand. "Your dad's knife went crooked and stabbed my hand instead. Lucky for me, I survived."
Wesley fell silent. Scarlett continued, "Wesley, you're already in here, and you're still scheming? Are you okay with getting a few more years added to your sentence?"
"Don't make false accusations. I had no idea my dad went to see you."
"You didn't know? You clearly sent him to find me, trying to use moral pressure to get me to clear your name." Scarlett said coldly.
"Wesley, you're in here because you did wrong. What does it have to do with me? Did I tell you to do those things?"
Wesley's eyes were bloodshot, "If Ambrose hadn't interfered, I never would've ended up in detention."
"No, you would've ended up here sooner or later. Sooner is better than later—at least the crime isn't as big. If you have the right attitude, you might even get your sentence reduced."
"You just want revenge for me deceiving you, right? No need to make it sound so noble. But do you know that back then, I did like you? It's just that night, you ruined everything. That's why I couldn't accept you." By the end, Wesley's face showed a pained expression.
Scarlett stared at him coldly. "I don't want to hear about the past anymore. I'm telling you this not because I'm afraid of you or your parents. I just don't want the person I once liked to end up like this."
"Your dad tried to kill someone that night. If I pursue it, he'll definitely be sentenced."
Scarlett made her point clear, and Wesley understood—whether she pursued it or not depended on their attitude.
