Chapter 179: Unexpected Guest

Chapter 179 Unexpected Guest

"You're just a traffic cop. Even if I give it to you, you'll have to hand it over to the people over there anyway. All this back and forth, there's no need for such hassle." Briar frowned, getting a bit impatient.

"Ms. Reed, are you looking down on me?" Ruben didn't like hearing that he was just a traffic cop. She was looking down on him.

"What's wrong with your ears? Is that what I meant?"

"Isn't that what you meant?" Ruben got serious too.

Briar couldn't be bothered to argue with him and walked around him. "What kind of attitude is that?" Ruben chased after her, annoyed.

However fast Briar walked, Ruben walked just as fast. The two of them bickered all the way to the entrance. Briar stopped, turned around and glared at Ruben.

"Why are you chasing after me? Do you have a thing for me?"

Ruben froze, then widened his eyes, pointing at himself, "Me," then pointing at her, "Have a thing for you?" He laughed dismissively.

"Are you beautiful or do you have a good personality? Why would I have a thing for you?"

Although Briar wasn't as stunning as Scarlett, she wasn't bad-looking either, and she had a great presence. She was definitely on par with those rich young ladies in Silverlight City. Now, being mocked to her face about her looks, she got angry and pointed at him.

"A spoiled rich kid like you, take a look at yourself. What makes you qualified to comment on me?"

Ruben chuckled, "You're embarrassed and angry now. I'm starting to suspect those rumors about me liking you were spread by you."

This really hit a nerve with Briar. She stepped forward, put her hands on her hips, and scolded, "That's nonsense. I could say those rumors were spread by you. Because of them, I had to hire bodyguards to protect myself."

"You're so worked up, seems like you're feeling guilty." Ruben deliberately provoked Briar.

"Worked up? I'll show you worked up." With that, Briar grabbed her bag and swung it at Ruben. Ruben reacted quickly and stepped back, dodging it.

"That's assaulting an officer. You could be detained for that." Ruben dodged while threatening her, and it actually worked a bit - Briar stopped attacking.

She was breathing heavily, pointing at Ruben, who was dodging all over the place.

"Don't appear in front of me again, or don't blame me for not being nice."

With that, Briar turned and walked into the police station entrance. Ruben wasn't scared. Seeing her go in, he followed right after. He wanted to see what kind of evidence it was that she wouldn't give to Ambrose or hand to him, but had to make this trip herself.

He had also heard about Scarlett being stabbed.

After Briar went in, she handed over the evidence to the staff and relayed Scarlett's words, asking them to quickly investigate the motive of the woman who brought Zane into Lakeside Garden, and whether someone was behind her.

Ruben, who had followed them in, immediately called Ambrose after learning about the video, telling him about Briar submitting evidence for Scarlett.

Ambrose, who had just finished an important meeting and was sitting at his desk handling documents, guessed after receiving Ruben's call that it must be evidence Finnian had found for Scarlett. Last night, Scarlett had gotten into Finnian's car right in front of him, which had made him uncomfortable.

Then he sent the video Ruben had forwarded to Chase, asking him to investigate the woman's motive and whether there was a mastermind behind her.

The day after tomorrow, the Serene Bay Peninsula project would open for bidding. He was extremely busy, and his current work was all in preparation for that bid.

Ryder walked into the office, "Mr. Boleyn, the Mitchell Group called saying they want to meet with you to discuss cooperation."

Ambrose thought for a moment and said, "Arrange a lunch meeting. We'll talk over a meal."

Ryder nodded, "Alright, I'll contact them."

At noon, in a premium private room at the Four Seasons Hotel, Ulysses and Ambrose sat in the spacious room.

Ulysses had a strange smile on his face and said sarcastically, "Ambrose, I never thought we'd have a day where we'd sit at the same table to discuss cooperation. It really proves that saying - there are no permanent enemies."

Ambrose was cold and indifferent, "I came to discuss cooperation, not to listen to you philosophize about life."

Ulysses laughed, "For Octavia's sake, I won't hold past matters against you." As he spoke, he tossed over a document folder from beside him.

"The terms of cooperation are all in the document. If there are no problems, we can sign."

Twenty minutes later, Ambrose threw the document back, "Since this is a cooperation, it should be fifty-fifty, not you taking the lion's share and calling all the shots."

Ulysses leaned back with a cocky attitude, "If I'm cooperating with you, naturally, the Mitchell Group takes the lead, and the Boleyn Group takes second place."

Ambrose glanced sideways with a disdainful look, "Either we're equals, or we each compete for the bid on our own merits."

With that, he stood up to leave, giving absolutely no room for negotiation.

Ulysses frowned, "Walking away at the slightest disagreement, you have no patience at all. We need to discuss the cooperation."

Ambrose stopped, his eyes sharp, "I don't have time to chat with you."

Seeing Ambrose's attitude, Ulysses nodded, "Then let me ask you, if we're equals and there are disagreements on the project, who do we listen to?"

As soon as Ulysses said this, Ambrose replied, "The cooperation will have rules and regulations. We'll follow those."

Ulysses sighed, "You make it sound easy. Rules and regulations have their shortcomings too."

"For this kind of project, the authorities will send people to supervise. Everything will be based on the quality of the work." After Ambrose said this, Ulysses gave a light snort.

Cooperation wasn't that easy to achieve.

After finishing her IV at the hospital, Scarlett left and returned to Lakeside Garden. Just as she got back to Lakeside Garden, Finnian appeared downstairs, and Kenna came with him.

Scarlett was surprised and happy to see Kenna. Seeing her carrying a bunch of nutritional supplements, she invited them up to her place.

Although they had only met once, the two of them really hit it off, and their conversation flowed seamlessly.

"Scarlett, I hope my sudden visit isn't disturbing you?" Kenna asked as the three of them took the elevator.

"Of course not. Having you visit me at home is an honor." Scarlett joked.

"I love hearing that." Kenna laughed heartily.

The three entered her home. Scarlett got out disposable slippers for them to change into and called Rhea to make coffee.

After sitting for a while, it was almost noon, so Scarlett invited Kenna and Finnian to stay for lunch.

Kenna didn't stand on ceremony and agreed right away, so Rhea got busy preparing lunch.

"Scarlett, besides visiting you today, there's something I'd like to ask your help with." Kenna said.

Scarlett looked at Kenna and asked what it was, so Kenna explained.

"I have a friend who wants to build a guesthouse and is looking for a designer. I thought of you as an expert in this area and wanted to ask if you could help design it for him."
