Chapter 178 Dare Not Sulk with Her Anymore
But just as Octavia had this thought, she saw Ambrose stride toward the car and get in. Moments later, the car sped away.
Octavia clenched her fists hard. It's okay, this was just the beginning. There would be plenty more opportunities ahead.
As Ambrose drove, Hayden, sitting in the back, held it in for quite a while before he couldn't help but speak up, "I think you'll be kicked out by Scarlett pretty soon."
"If I get kicked out, you won't have a chance to go back either."
"Then I just won't go back."
"Are you planning to get close to the Mitchell family now?"
"I just didn't know many people before, that's why I thought Scarlett was so great."
Hearing this, Ambrose chuckled softly. Fine, let Hayden experience what the Mitchell family was like. Only with comparison would Hayden realize that no one in the world would treat him better than Scarlett.
Then we would see if Hayden still dared to throw tantrums at Scarlett.
After getting into Finnian's car, Scarlett barely said a word. Finnian, on the other hand, kept glancing at her hand wrapped tightly in white gauze while driving. "Your hand is pretty badly hurt."
Scarlett glanced at her bandaged hand and said flatly, "It's fine, just a flesh wound. No bone damage."
"Was it Wesley's father who hurt you?"
Scarlett nodded. "Wesley's been taken to the detention center, and he thinks I'm to blame."
Finnian had guessed as much. "Did you watch the surveillance video I sent you? Did you find anything?"
Only then did Scarlett remember he'd sent her a video earlier. She quickly pulled out her phone.
"I didn't have a chance to look before. I'll watch it now."
After opening it, Scarlett saw that Zane had been brought in by a woman. The woman must be a resident of Lakeside Garden. Why would she bring Zane in?
They needed to find that woman and question her. This required police involvement, so she said to Finnian, "Finnian, let's go to the police station."
Finnian frowned. "Scarlett, you're injured like this. Go home and rest first. Besides, it's so late. Going to the police station tomorrow would be the same."
Scarlett had been through a frightening ordeal and lost blood from her injury. She was exhausted. She gave up on the idea of going to the police station and headed straight back to Lakeside Garden.
Finnian's car dropped Scarlett off at her building. After turning off the engine, he said, "Scarlett, if you need anything, just tell me directly."
Scarlett smiled slightly. She hadn't seen Finnian since the incident at Evergreen Club, but their interactions hadn't changed at all—still comfortable and easy.
When Scarlett got home, Rhea's eyes widened in horror the moment she saw her hand. "Scarlett, what happened?"
While changing her shoes, Scarlett told her everything. She didn't want to hide it, because she also needed to remind Rhea to be careful. Scarlett was worried that the Ross family might target people around her.
"Then I won't open the door for just anyone, and I won't take Yara downstairs to play anymore," Rhea said, her heart pounding after hearing the story. At the same time, she felt sorry for Scarlett.
Scarlett then went to her room to shower. While showering, she used a waterproof bag to cover the bandaged area to keep it dry.
After her shower, Scarlett was about to go to bed when her phone rang. Seeing it was Ambrose calling, she had no interest in answering. She put it on silent and went to sleep.
Due to excessive blood loss, Scarlett slept until eight o'clock the next morning. Yara hadn't come to bother her either—Rhea must have said something to her, which was why Yara was being so quiet.
When Scarlett woke up, she felt much more energetic. After washing up, she went out for breakfast. After breakfast, she still needed to go to the hospital for an IV.
While eating breakfast, she asked who had taken Yara to kindergarten. Rhea said Ambrose had come and taken Yara.
Scarlett froze for a moment. The events of last night replayed in her mind. Should she make things clear with him?
But looking at how Ambrose was acting, even if she tried to explain, he probably wouldn't listen. Forget it, for now, she'd just take things one step at a time.
After breakfast, she went downstairs. The bodyguard wanted to drive her, and she didn't refuse. After all, she couldn't drive with her injured hand, and taking the bodyguard's car was safer than calling a ride.
At the hospital, she had two bottles of IV medication to receive, and then her wound needed to be cleaned.
While her wound was being cleaned, Briar appeared. She looked at Scarlett's bloody wound with great distress. After the wound was cleaned and the doctor left, she finally let loose.
"The Ross family is too vicious. People like that should be in prison, not out hurting others."
Briar had barely finished cursing when Ambrose appeared in the hospital room.
Not knowing the two had argued, Briar greeted him politely. But when she saw Ambrose walk up to Scarlett to ask about her condition and Scarlett's cold response, Briar realized something was wrong between them.
Ambrose had originally wanted to tell Scarlett about last night's situation, but with Briar there, he didn't say anything. He also had an important meeting, so he didn't stay long before leaving.
As soon as he left, Briar pressed for details, "Did you two have a fight?"
Scarlett didn't know how to explain. She just said, "Just some small things. It's nothing."
"Based on today, Ambrose's performance was pretty good. Especially how he treats Yara like his own daughter—that must be because of you. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so good to Yara," Briar said while peeling an apple.
Thinking about how he'd taken Yara to school this morning, Scarlett didn't know what to say. He really was very good to Yara, but the gap between them was too big. Especially with Octavia in the middle—there was no point thinking about other possibilities.
"Forget it, let's not talk about him. How have you been lately?" Scarlett asked.
A while back, she'd borrowed two bodyguards from Ambrose to protect Briar. She wondered what the situation was now.
"People from the Reed family haven't come looking for me again," Briar said with a cold laugh.
"What about Wilder?" Scarlett asked.
"He came looking for me once more after that, and I cursed him out too," Briar said with an indifferent expression, seeming unwilling to discuss it.
Scarlett could tell that Briar had some things she didn't want her to know, so she didn't press further.
After chatting for a bit, Scarlett remembered she hadn't sent that video to the police station yet, and she couldn't leave for a while, so she asked Briar to deliver it to the police station for her.
Briar agreed and took the item to make the trip for her.
When Briar arrived at the police station, she ran right into Ruben, who was coming out. Seeing her, Ruben asked with a grin, "Ms. Reed, are you here on business?"
Briar smiled politely. "Yes, is Mr. Lawson heading out for work?"
"Got some things to do outside. What are you here for? Don't tell me someone's giving you trouble again?" Ruben had heard some inside information from Ambrose.
Briar paused, then guessed he must have heard something. She just smiled lightly. "No, I'm here to deliver evidence for Scarlett."
Ruben knew about Scarlett's injury, so he said, "Give me the evidence, I'll take it in."
Before coming, Scarlett had repeatedly instructed Briar to personally hand the evidence to a staff member. Ruben was just a traffic cop, so Briar couldn't give it to him.
"I won't trouble you."
"Does Ms. Reed not trust me?" Ruben put on a stern face.
