CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

unanswered question

Han's lips curled into a cruel smirk as he regarded Nina with disdain. "Troubles? You think I'm the one causing trouble here?" he sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.

Nina's heart pounded with fear as she met Han's gaze, his hostility noticeable in his voice. She knew that engaging in a confrontation with him could only escalate the situation further, but she couldn't stand idly by while he spewed his venomous words.

Nana Sam stepped forward, her eyes flashing with a conclusion as she addressed Han. "We don't want any trouble, Mr. Han," she stated firmly, her tone rentless. "But if you continue to disrupt our peace, we will have no choice but to take action."

Han's laughter rang out through the room, a cold, evil sound that sent shivers down Nina's spine. "Action? What action could you possibly take against me?" he taunted, his eyes gleaming with malice.

Nina felt a surge of frustration welling up inside her, but she knew that losing her temper would only play into Han's hands. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart as she searched for the right words to diffuse the situation.

"Mr. Han, please," she implored, her voice trembling slightly with anxiety. "I have done nothing to warrant your hostility. If there is a misunderstanding, let us resolve it peacefully, I beg of you."

Han's expression softened slightly, a whiff of amusement dancing in his eyes as he regarded Nina. "Misunderstanding?" he echoed, his tone mocking. "There is no misunderstanding here, Nina. You know exactly why I'm here."

Nina felt a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach as she realized that Han's hatred towards her ran deeper than she had imagined. She knew that she needed to tread carefully, but she couldn't understand why and no one was telling her anything.

Nana Sam stepped in, her voice calm but firm as she addressed Han once more. "Whatever issues you have with Nina, Mr. Han, I suggest you take them elsewhere," she stated, her tone leaving no room for argument. "We have a newborn baby to care for, and we will not tolerate any disruptions to our peace."

Han's eyes flashed with anger, but he seemed to relent slightly, his posture relaxing as he considered Nana Sam's words. After a tense moment of silence, he finally nodded, his expression unreadable as he turned towards the door.

"You haven't heard the last of this, Nina," he muttered under his breath, his voice adulterated with threat as he made his exit.

Nina let out a sigh of relief as the door closed behind Han. She was still in shock as she glanced at Nana Sam questionably.

Nana Sam, however, sighed and turned her face. She didn't want Nina to ask her any sort of question.

The next day dawned bright and clear, but Nina's mind was clouded with thoughts of Han and the mystery surrounding his hatred towards her. She wanted to know if she had done anything wrong to him and she wanted to apologize.

After completing her morning chores, Nina set out to gather herbs in the forest. Nana Sam had asked her to get some herbs while she took care of the baby. It was a good thing for her. Because she needed time to think and breathe. Han’s hate was just making her uncomfortable.

As she walked into the forest, Nina's mind continued to dash with questions, each one heavier than the last. Why did Han hate me so much? What have I done to incur your wrath? And most importantly, what are you hiding? What are you not saying? What can I do? This is making me go insane.

Lost in her thoughts, Nina almost didn't notice the figure approaching her until they were mere steps away. Startled, she looked up to see Nana Sam's familiar face smiling warmly at her.

"Nina, my dear, what’s keeping you so long?" Nana Sam inquired, her voice gentle as she placed a hand on Nina's shoulder.

Nina was surprised to see her. She was supposed to be at home looking at her son.

Nina hesitated for a moment before deciding on asking Nana Sam about her child. "Nana, where’s Cain? Who did you leave him for? Is he safe?” Nina inquired almost in one breath.

Nana smiled and answered. “Cain is in good hands. I actually came out here to help you relax. You've been tense since yesterday night and it's just noticeable.”

Nina sighed. “ I need to find out why Han hates me so much," she confessed, her voice filled with frustration and confusion. "I've asked around, but no one seems to have the answers I'm looking for and you also wouldn't tell me, I'm just so confused."

Nana Sam's expression softened with pity as she listened to Nina's words. "I understand your concerns, my dear," she replied, her voice reassuring. "But sometimes, the answers we seek are not easily found. It may take time, but I believe that the truth will reveal itself in due course. So, please relax and find happiness among those that also sort your happiness."

Nina nodded with a smile plastered on her lips. She felt a little relieved and grateful for Nana Sam's words of wisdom. Despite the doubts, she couldn't find herself worrying about things she couldn't control anymore.
