Chapter 142 Never Thought About Marriage
Amelia met his gaze, her cold eyes showing no ripples. She gently shook her head, her red lips slightly parted, and said calmly, "You misunderstood, I didn't say that."
She paused for a moment, a faint smile appearing on her lips, "I just think Mr. Talbot is a great teacher. How many people have you taught to dance to have such exquisite skills?"
Dorian's gaze slightly tightened; he didn't expect Amelia to respond like that.
He pressed his thin lips together, a barely noticeable emotion flashing in his deep eyes. The dance floor was noisy, the music melodious, and the people around were immersed in a joyful atmosphere, but it didn't affect the subtle tension between the two of them.
He raised his hand to gently straighten the slightly messy hair by Amelia's temple, the action natural and intimate, his deep voice carrying a hint of magnetism as it sounded in Amelia's ear, "Ms. Boleyn, I've only taught one person."
He paused, his tone carrying a barely noticeable pride, "And I am quite satisfied with my student."
Amelia's heart trembled slightly, a strange feeling spreading in her heart.
She somewhat uncomfortably avoided Dorian's gaze, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks, like a flower quietly blooming in the cold wind, delicate yet cold.
Dorian noticed the subtle change in Amelia's expression, a barely noticeable smile appearing on his lips.
He tightened his grip on Amelia's hand slightly, as if to keep her firmly by his side.
As the music ended, Dorian gentlemanly escorted Amelia back to her seat.
The event was nearing its end, with people mingling and toasting. Amelia politely signaled to Dorian and then quietly exited the noisy hall, heading to the restroom.
After coming out, Amelia went to the sink. The sound of running water washed away the lingering scent of champagne on her fingers.
In the mirror, Nora appeared behind her at some point, her heavily made-up face now looking somewhat twisted.
"Amelia," Nora's voice was sharp, like nails on a chalkboard, "don't get too smug."
Amelia turned off the faucet, slowly pulled out a paper towel to wipe her hands, her gaze calm as if she hadn't heard Nora's words.
This attitude of ignoring her clearly angered Nora even more. She took a few steps forward, getting close to Amelia, almost gritting her teeth as she said, "An orphan, what makes you think you deserve Dorian? He's just tired of fine dining and wants to try some wild vegetables!"
Amelia finally looked up at Nora, her gaze cold, a mocking smile on her lips. "Ms. Hill, by your logic, even if Dorian wants to eat wild vegetables, it wouldn't be your turn. So, you're not even wild vegetables, at most you're slop, only chosen by those who are desperate."
She paused slightly, her gaze sharply sweeping over Nora's almost failing delicate makeup, "I don't understand why you keep clinging to Dorian."
"What do you know!" Nora screamed hysterically, her delicate makeup looking somewhat ferocious due to her intense emotions, "I have no other choice but him! He must be mine! Not just because I like him, but also because..." She paused, seemingly realizing she almost let something slip, her tone becoming sharp and mean again, "In any case, you, an orphan, wouldn't understand!"
Amelia looked at the nearly crazed Nora, feeling like she was watching a clown, a trace of disgust rising in her heart. She didn't want to entangle with her any longer and turned to leave.
"Stop right there!" Nora grabbed Amelia's arm, her sharp nails almost digging into her flesh, "Who do you think you are? What makes you think you..."
Before she could finish, Amelia twisted her arm, firmly controlling Nora's wrist, then pushed her into the sink. The cold water instantly soaked Nora's expensive dress, washing away her carefully crafted makeup into a mess.
"Are you sober now?" Amelia's voice was cold, devoid of any emotion.
Nora raised her head in a sorry state, her makeup smudged, mascara running, looking like a frightened wild cat. She was soaked, shivering, but still unwilling to give up, glaring at Amelia, "With so many rich people in Harbor City, why do you insist on clinging to Dorian? He's just playing with you, do you think he'll marry you? Dream on!"
Amelia slowly withdrew her hand, her tone indifferent as if discussing the weather, "He and I are just using each other. Marriage? I never thought about it."
Dorian passed by the row of sinks. He didn't seem to expect to see such a scene: Amelia standing leisurely on one side, while Nora was in a sorry state.
Amelia saw Dorian, feeling nervous, like being caught doing something wrong, awkwardly pulling at the corners of her mouth, "Mr. Talbot."
Dorian looked at Amelia, his gaze complex, but a faint smile appeared on his lips. "Using each other? Never thought about marriage?" He repeated Amelia's words, his tone carrying a hint of inexplicable meaning.
Amelia felt her cheeks heat up, she averted her gaze, not daring to look Dorian in the eye.
"Tonight, I'll return to The Talbot Villa, you go back to Serenity Retreat yourself." Dorian left this sentence, turned, and left the restroom, as if he didn't see Nora at all.
Nora was about to say something to Dorian, but he only left her with his back. She stared blankly at Dorian's departing figure, feeling like a joke.
Amelia almost instinctively chased after him.
The corridor was empty, with only a few wall lamps emitting a dim light. Amelia ran, finally catching up with Dorian at the elevator.
"Mr. Talbot, please wait a moment." Amelia panted slightly, trying to maintain a calm tone.
Dorian didn't stop, not even looking back at her, walking straight into the elevator. The elevator doors slowly closed, shutting Amelia out.
Amelia bit her lip, a sense of inexplicable grievance welling up in her heart. She didn't understand why Dorian was treating her like this. Was it just because she said "using each other"?
She turned and ran towards the emergency exit, the sound of her high heels on the metal stairs echoing like a hammer on her heart.
By the time she reached the lobby, Dorian was already in the car. The black Maybach was parked at the hotel entrance, like a lurking beast.
"Mr. Talbot!" Amelia called out again, lifting her dress hem, stumbling as she ran over.
The thick carpet caught her thin heel. Amelia exclaimed, her body uncontrollably falling forward.
A sharp pain shot from her ankle, and Amelia fell to the ground, her delicate makeup unable to hide the pain on her face.
Dorian seemed not to hear her voice, the car windows closed, isolating the outside world. He leaned back in his seat, eyes closed, a hint of fatigue between his brows.
Heath, sitting in the driver's seat, saw Amelia fall through the rearview mirror. He hesitated, about to remind Dorian, but Dorian impatiently waved his hand.
"Drive." Dorian said coldly, his tone carrying a hint of barely noticeable irritation.
Heath didn't dare say anything more, starting the car. The black Maybach slowly drove away from the hotel entrance, leaving a trail of red taillights, gradually disappearing into the night.
Amelia struggled to stand, a sharp pain radiating from her ankle. She gritted her teeth, limping as she tried to chase after the car, but could only watch as it disappeared from sight.
