Chapter 141 Follow for a Lifetime
Wilder glanced at the bottle and sneered, "Nora, can you stop being so disgusting? Using such lowly tactics, aren't you ashamed? I'm the one who feels dirty."
Nora's smile froze instantly, "Wilder! What do you mean? You can't possibly be interested in that Amelia, can you?"
"Interested in her? You're giving her too much credit." Wilder's tone was contemptuous, "I just despise your methods. A lovesick fool from a wealthy family? It's laughable."
"You!" Nora's face turned pale with anger, "Do you want the shares or not? For an irrelevant Amelia, you're willing to give up money?"
"Shares? You better keep those shares to deal with Marvin's aftermath." Wilder's tone was full of disdain, "Dealing with Amelia? I advise you to save your energy, or you'll end up with nothing."
"Wilder! You useless piece of trash!" Nora completely lost her composure, her sharp voice echoing in the lounge, "I'll tell you, even without you, I'll make her pay!"
"Then go ahead and try." Wilder's tone was cold, with a hint of warning.
The sound of high heels clicking echoed again, accompanied by Nora's cursing, gradually fading away.
The lounge fell silent once more.
Behind the curtain, Amelia's face was pale, and her back felt cold. She hadn't expected Nora to be so vicious, wanting to drug her.
The silence behind the curtain lasted for a long time. After confirming that both people had left, Dorian pulled the curtain open.
"Come out." Dorian's deep voice carried a barely noticeable hoarseness.
Amelia met Dorian's deep gaze, feeling an inexplicable irritation. She stepped out from behind the curtain, rubbing her slightly numb legs, her tone cold, "Mr. Talbot, can I leave now?"
Dorian looked at her slightly pale face, a mocking curve forming on his thin lips, "What, are you disappointed that Mr. Hill didn't do anything to you?"
Amelia was stunned for a moment, then realized what he meant, her face instantly turning cold, "What do you mean by that? What Wilder does to me has nothing to do with you."
"How does it not?" Dorian stepped closer to her, his tall figure exuding pressure, "After all, he's a suitor. You have quite the charm."
Amelia met his gaze fearlessly, her tone icy, "Didn't Nora do everything for Mr. Talbot? Too bad she doesn't dare to touch you, so she comes to trouble me."
Dorian's face darkened slightly, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He reached out and pinched her chin, his voice low, "As long as you stay by my side, nothing will happen to you."
Amelia instinctively retorted, "Do I have to stay with you forever?"
Dorian's gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds, his Adam's apple bobbing, his deep voice carrying a hint of hoarseness, "Why not?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, both of them were stunned.
A strange atmosphere filled the air, Amelia's cheeks flushed slightly, wanting to explain but not knowing what to say.
Amelia's heart suddenly raced, she pushed him away abruptly, taking a few steps back, her eyes avoiding his gaze in panic.
Dorian was the first to regain his usual sternness. He raised his hand to check his watch, his tone flat, "I can't disappear for too long, let's go."
Amelia took a deep breath, suppressing the emotions surging in her heart, and followed him out of the lounge.
The two returned to the bustling banquet hall.
The band's music had changed to a lively waltz at some point. The rotating lights cast mottled shadows, and guests danced together in the center of the dance floor.
"Ms. Boleyn." A slightly playful voice sounded in Amelia's ear.
Amelia turned her head to see Wilder standing beside her, holding two glasses of champagne, a roguish smile on his lips. "May I invite you to dance?"
Amelia politely declined, "Sorry, I'm not very good at dancing."
Wilder didn't insist, shrugging and handing her one of the glasses of champagne, "Then how about a drink together?"
Amelia took the glass, taking a polite sip, her gaze unconsciously drifting to the center of the dance floor.
After a while, a well-dressed middle-aged couple approached Wilder, their faces full of smiles, pointing to a well-dressed girl not far away and saying something to Wilder.
Although Wilder looked reluctant, he obediently walked towards the girl, extending his hand to invite her to dance.
Amelia shrugged and went to the dessert area, taking small bites of a cake.
"How did you almost disappear again when I turned around?" Dorian appeared beside her at some point.
Amelia looked up at him, her tone indifferent, "Too many people, it's a bit stuffy."
"Want to dance?" Dorian shook the champagne in his hand, his gaze falling on her.
Amelia hesitated, "I can't dance, what if I make a fool of myself?"
Dorian took her hand without giving her a chance to refuse, his tone domineering, "You're my date, at least in Harbor City, no one dares to laugh at you."
Amelia was startled by his sudden action, unable to help but laugh, "Mr. Talbot, you're too domineering."
Dorian raised an eyebrow, "Read fewer novels."
He led Amelia to the dance floor, his long fingers lightly resting on her waist, the warmth of his palm seeping through the thin dress to her skin, causing a slight shiver.
Amelia felt a bit uncomfortable, but quickly adapted to Dorian's rhythm. His dance steps were elegant and smooth, exuding an innate nobility, drawing envious glances from the surrounding guests.
Not far away, in a corner of the stage, Everett's fingers flew over the piano keys, the smooth melody pouring out.
His gaze followed the two spinning in the dance floor, his heart feeling like it was being tightly gripped by an invisible hand, jealousy surging in his chest.
Dorian's palm on Amelia's waist, that intimate posture, stung his eyes.
Intense jealousy grew like wild grass, almost consuming him. A moment of distraction caused his fingers to slip on the keys, producing a jarring note.
Everett snapped back to reality, a fine layer of sweat forming on his forehead.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to focus back on the sheet music, his fingers dancing on the keys again, the beautiful melody flowing once more, as if the earlier mistake was just an illusion.
Wilder was equally distracted.
He should have been fully focused on leading his dance partner, but his gaze kept following Amelia,
Watching her spin gracefully and calmly in Dorian's arms.
In a moment of distraction, his dance steps faltered, and he bumped into his partner. "Mr. Hill, you stepped on my foot."
The girl's coquettish voice sounded in his ear.
Wilder snapped back to reality, quickly apologizing, "Sorry, I was distracted."
The girl smiled sweetly, leaning close to his ear and whispering, "Fate is in your own hands, don't let family constraints make you compromise."
With that, she gently pushed Wilder away, blending into the crowd, leaving Wilder standing there, lost in thought.
"Not bad." Dorian looked down at Amelia, a barely noticeable curve on his lips, "It seems you have a talent for many things."
Amelia smiled faintly, her tone calm, "Mr. Talbot teaches well, it might not be the same with someone else."
Dorian raised an eyebrow, his gaze deep, "Really? Does Ms. Boleyn want to change partners?"
