Chapter 143 Bringing the Lover Home

Chapter 143 Bringing the Lover Home

At this moment, a black sedan stopped beside her. The window slowly rolled down, revealing a familiar face.

"Amelia? Why are you sitting on the ground?" Everett asked anxiously, with a hint of concern in his voice.

Amelia looked up and saw the concern in Everett's eyes, feeling a warmth in her heart. She forced a smile and said lightly, "I'm fine, just twisted my ankle accidentally."

Seeing her trying to endure the pain, Everett felt heartbroken. He quickly got out of the car, walked to Amelia's side, squatted down, and carefully checked her injury. "Is it serious? Can you walk?"

Amelia shook her head, "Not really, it hurts a lot."

"I'll take you to the hospital," Everett said without hesitation.

"No need," Amelia instinctively refused, "I'll just call a cab."

Everett pointed to the car behind him, "I happen to be heading back too, I'll give you a ride."

Amelia wanted to say something, but he interrupted her, "Don't be stubborn, get in the car." He picked her up horizontally without giving her a chance to refuse.

Amelia gasped and instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck. A faint scent of men's cologne filled her nose, making her feel a bit uneasy. She struggled slightly, but he held her tighter.

"Don't move," Everett's deep voice sounded in her ear, "It's hard for me to walk like this."

Amelia had no choice but to lean against his chest. Everett carefully placed her in the car, then walked around to the driver's seat. The car drove smoothly on the road, and the cabin was silent.

Coincidentally, someone passing by saw the scene and captured the moment Everett carried Amelia into the car with a flash of their camera. A smug smile appeared on their face.

At the hospital, Everett skillfully registered and paid the fees, then helped Amelia to get examined. After the X-ray results came out, the doctor pointed to the film and said, "A minor fracture, you'll need a cast and a month of rest."

Looking at her ankle wrapped in a thick cast, Amelia couldn't help but mock herself, "Is my physical condition so bad now? A twist can cause a fracture."

Everett comforted her, "It's just an accident, no one could have expected it. Don't overthink it, the most important thing is to recover well." He paused, as if gathering courage, and carefully suggested, "You live alone, it must be inconvenient now. How about staying at my hotel? I booked the presidential suite, I can take care of you."

Amelia was stunned for a moment, then politely declined, "No need to trouble you, I can manage on my own."

"But..." Everett wanted to say more, but Amelia interrupted him.

"Really, I can take care of myself!" Amelia said firmly, leaving no room for negotiation.

Seeing her insistence, Everett had to compromise, "At least hire a maid, so I can feel more at ease." His tone carried a hint of firmness, unlike the Everett who used to cry easily.

Amelia looked at him in surprise, as if seeing him for the first time. In her memory, Everett was always the little boy who followed her and timidly called her "Amelia." When did he become so assertive?

Noticing Amelia's gaze, Everett's cheeks turned slightly red, and he explained somewhat embarrassedly, "I've grown up, I can protect and take care of you now."

Amelia laughed and teased, "Our Everett has grown up, knows how to protect me now." But she quickly became serious, "I'm not used to being taken care of, and I don't buy into your macho act."

Everett sighed helplessly, knowing Amelia's personality, he didn't insist further.

After leaving the hospital, Everett insisted on taking Amelia home. Along the way, he carefully supported her, afraid she might fall again.

Dorian's brows furrowed tightly as he stared at the disconnected phone screen, a surge of anger rising within him.

He rarely got hung up on, especially not at such a critical moment.

Amelia, your courage was growing.

He instructed Heath to drive back to the banquet hall. Dorian scanned the room but didn't see Amelia.

Dorian's face darkened, and he grabbed the passing hotel manager, "Did you see the lady I brought earlier?"

The manager was startled by the sudden question, "Mr. Talbot, I don't know."

"Don't know?" Dorian's tone was icy and oppressive, "Your hotel, and you don't know?"

The manager wiped the sweat from his forehead, "I'll find out right away! Right away!"

Dorian released his grip, irritably tugging at his tie. He dialed Amelia's number again, only to hear the cold mechanical voice: "The number you have dialed is currently switched off."

After several attempts, all met with the same response, Dorian laughed angrily, "Fine, very fine!"

A hint of ruthlessness flashed in his eyes, "Heath, check the surveillance!"

Damn it! Where did Amelia go? He'd have to get her a phone with a tracker!

He turned and strode out of the banquet hall, heading to the parking lot. Serenity Retreat, he needed to check Serenity Retreat.

The black Maybach shot out of the hotel like an arrow, merging into the night. Dorian gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white. The atmosphere in the car was suffocatingly tense.

The streetlights cast alternating shadows on his face through the car window, accentuating his grim expression.

Serenity Retreat, a villa nestled among green trees, appeared particularly tranquil in the night.

Dorian entered the villa's code and opened the door. The villa was dimly lit, with only a small floor lamp in the corner of the living room casting a warm glow, making the place seem especially lonely.

Dorian took off his coat and tossed it onto the sofa, irritably loosening his tie. He looked around, feeling a strange sense of unfamiliarity.

This was the house he rented for Amelia, yet it inexplicably gave him a sense of "home," a feeling that made him uneasy.

He walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the scenery outside, feeling a surge of restlessness.

The faint sound of the door opening broke the villa's silence. Dorian turned sharply, a hint of sharpness in his eyes. Amelia was back?

"Where have you been?" His tone was cold, with a hint of interrogation.

However, it wasn't just Amelia at the door. Everett was supporting a pale-faced Amelia as they walked in. Amelia's right ankle was wrapped in a white bandage, making her look particularly fragile.

Dorian's pupils contracted, the anger burning in his chest flaring up, almost consuming him.

Amelia was also taken aback to see Dorian. "What are you doing here? Weren't you going back to The Talbot Villa?"

Dorian laughed angrily, pointing at Everett, "If I had gone back to The Talbot Villa, I wouldn't have known you dared to bring a lover home!"

Amelia's face changed, her tone turning cold. "Dorian, watch your words! Everett is my friend!"

Everett was too shocked by the sudden turn of events to speak.

He looked at the pale Amelia, then at the furious Dorian, his mind blank. He never expected Amelia to be living with Dorian! What was going on?
