Chapter 203

Chapter 203

I knew Lily was changing the subject.

Normally, I definitely wouldn't have kept pressing.

But I didn't want to watch her continue wasting away like this.

Lily was supposed to be forever bright and bold, full of energy.

Right now, she was like a rose that had completely lost its vitality, gradually withering away.

I looked at her seriously, "Do you really want to break up with Ryan?"

Lily kept her head down, continuing to eat, her tone deliberately casual, "I already said it out loud, can I take it back?"

"Why not? We're women, what's wrong with being a little unreasonable sometimes?"

I shrugged, not seeing any problem with it.

The important thing was that these two people had feelings for each other.

It would be such a shame for them to miss out like this.

Who knew Lily would look up at me, "Sue, Jason has spoiled you."

Actually, I thought so too.

Ever since I stopped overthinking and decided to make up with Jason, I'd felt much lighter.

Thinking of Jason, I couldn't help but smile.

Lily narrowed her eyes slightly, "Are you hiding something from me?"

I froze, feeling a bit guilty.

I really hadn't told Lily about Jason and me getting married.

But wasn't it because Lily was still in her sad moment?

If I told Lily, wouldn't it really upset her, making things worse?

My hesitation showed in Lily's eyes.

She immediately rushed over, grabbed my shoulders with both hands and started shaking me hard.

"Tell me, tell me! Tell me right now! Sue, you're being unfair, now you're keeping secrets from me! Do you still consider me a good friend or not?"

She shook me until I was dizzy, and I quickly grabbed her arms.

"Stop, stop, stop..."

"Then tell me!"

I coughed twice, feeling a bit awkward, "Actually... well... probably... it's not really a big deal."

Lily stared straight at me, "What?"

"Jason and I got our marriage certificate!"

I closed my eyes, steeled myself, and just said it directly!

Lily's eyes became even more dangerous, "When did this happen?"

I avoided her gaze, "Just yesterday."

"Yesterday?"

Lily's eyes widened, and she started shaking me hard again.

"Great! I break up and you get married!"

I said helplessly, "I was planning to keep it from you, but you insisted on asking."

I knew that saying this kind of thing would definitely make Lily feel bad.

But unexpectedly, Lily suddenly quieted down and let go of me.

She looked at me seriously for a moment, her voice much softer.

"Forget it, at least one of us should be happy. Congratulations, I haven't even said happy wedding to you yet."

Lily leaned over and hugged me, "Sue, happy wedding."

I blinked, holding back the stinging moisture, and hugged Lily back tightly, "Lily, are you okay?"

Lily let go of me, rolled her eyes, and said with forced lightness, "What could be wrong with me? Don't think I'm that fragile. Your marriage is a great thing! I always thought you two would end up together, and now your hard times are finally over!"

"Speaking of which, you just married Jason like that? What about the ring? He didn't even buy you a ring?"

I smiled, "He did, it's just being resized."

Lily pursed her lips and snorted, "That's more like it. Let me tell you, the ring must have diamonds! Don't be reluctant to spend money just because you want to save. It has to be the size of a pigeon egg, the kind that blinds people when you wear it out! Let everyone know how much Jason treasures you! You're his beloved woman!"

She understood me well.

Lily's words made me think about how Jason had spent several million dollars just on one trip to the jewelry store, and I started feeling the pain again.

Although Jason had money, now he was my husband, and his money was partly mine too!

Him spending money so lavishly really made my heart ache!

As for what Lily said after that, I didn't care as much.

I didn't care about other people's opinions. I just wanted to live a good life with Jason now.

After finishing talking about my situation, I turned the topic back to Lily.

"Enough about me, what about you? What are your plans next?"

Lily puffed out her cheeks.

"What plans can I have? Keep writing books and making money. I can't just fall apart over one man! Compared to men, not having money makes me feel even more insecure."

She made a fist gesture at me, enthusiastically, "When I make big money, I'll go find twenty men! You think I can't find men if I want to?"

Seeing her gradually regaining her energy, I finally felt relieved.

Lily looked at me, "What about you? Are you planning to just be a full-time housewife at home from now on?"

I raised an eyebrow, "Of course not. I definitely need to work. The New Year just passed, and I've already been planning to send out my resume these past few days."

No matter what, women still need to have their own careers.

Although I now had quite a bit of money in my account, plus the shops and shares Thomas gave me as passive income.

But having a job and having your own career are two different things.

Lily couldn't help but tease me with a smile, "Do you really need to go through the trouble of finding a job? Just go to your husband's company and ask for a position. Your husband loves you so much, he definitely won't shortchange you on salary."

But I shook my head, "No."

Lily laughed even more happily, "Why not? You don't want an easy job?"

I said, "It's different. Since I've decided to go out and work, it should have some challenge to it. Going to work at Jason's place, I might as well not go at all."

I wanted to go out and work because I didn't want to depend on Jason.

Even if the salary was low, that would be fine.

Going to work at Jason's place would go against my original intention.

Lily didn't say much about my decision.

Seeing that Lily was much better, I also felt relieved.

After chatting with Lily for a while longer, I left.

Matters of the heart needed her to figure out herself. I couldn't do much.

On the way back, I stopped by the supermarket to buy groceries.

When I got home, Jason was still working.

I had wanted to go to the study to chat with him, but hearing him on the phone, seeming very busy.

I stood at the door for a bit, went back to the bedroom to change clothes, then went downstairs to cook.

The food was almost ready, with delicious aromas coming from the pot.

As I was immersed in the fragrance of the food, a pair of large hands suddenly appeared around my waist.

Jason rested his chin on my shoulder and said sweetly, "Wife, your waist is so slim."

His hands restlessly caressed my waist, occasionally giving it a squeeze.

My body stiffened slightly, and I slapped his hands away irritably.

"Let go of me, don't disturb my cooking."

Jason kissed my cheek and obediently let go.

He didn't leave, just leaned against the doorframe, watching me with casual amusement in his eyes.

I lowered my head to stir the soup in the pot, and hair fell down by my ear, somewhat blocking my view.

Finding it annoying, I put down the spoon and casually tied up my hair.

Someone seemed to be approaching from behind, but I ignored him.

The next moment, I felt a slight pain on my neck.
