Chapter 204
Hot breath sprayed against my neck, making goosebumps break out all over my body.
Jason used some force. It hurt a little.
My eyes widened in disbelief, but my heartbeat sped up uncontrollably!
After a brief moment of shock, I turned around and pushed Jason away hard, glaring at him in warning, "Jason! If you keep messing around, you're not eating tonight!"
Jason's eyes were gentle, a soft laugh escaping his lips.
He lowered his head and kissed my lips, "You're so cute, honey."
My face flushed red as I raised my voice, "Jason!"
"Okay, okay, I'm leaving now."
Only then did Jason obediently leave.
I touched my burning face and muttered under my breath.
Jerk.
After dinner, Jason cleaned up the kitchen while I went upstairs to shower.
After my shower, I felt refreshed.
I walked to the study and opened my computer to work on my resume.
Just as I was writing seriously, Jason came up.
He asked in surprise, "Honey, what are you doing?"
I didn't look up, "Making my resume."
"You're going to work?"
Jason's voice was full of surprise.
I answered while thinking about how to improve my resume.
"Yeah, I've been resting for a long time. Of course I need to go out and work. If the gap gets too long, it'll be hard to find a job."
Jason walked over to me, placing one hand on the desk and tilting his head.
He looked confused, "Why make a resume? If you want to work, just come to Glacier Corp. I'll arrange it for you."
This was the same thing Lily had said.
But I just shook my head, "I'm not going."
Jason's voice tightened, "Why not? Wouldn't it be nice to work by my side?"
I typed the last word, saved my resume, and closed the computer.
Jason still stood beside me without moving, his eyes fixed on me darkly, clearly a bit unhappy.
I stood up and looked Jason in the eye, my tone calm, "No particular reason. I just don't want to."
"Are you sure?"
Jason's lips pressed together slightly, his tone carrying a hint of negotiation, "But if you work outside on your own, without my protection, if people out there bully you, it'll break my heart."
I knew he meant well.
But I really wanted to be independent.
I moved closer, cupping Jason's face with both hands and looking at him seriously.
"Don't worry, okay? Don't underestimate me. I'm not some weak person that anyone can push around."
If I were really that easy to bully, I couldn't have raised Jessica on my own.
Jason was just too worried.
Jason took the opportunity to wrap his arm around my waist, pulling me down to sit on the chair with me on his lap.
I turned my head to look around, feeling this position was particularly embarrassing.
"Let me down first."
But Jason held my waist tightly, insisting, "No, we haven't finished talking."
I sighed helplessly and continued in this position, "Even though we're married, and I know you want to make things easier for me, that doesn't conflict with me wanting to find a job."
"In my heart, first and foremost, I am me—an independent individual, an independent person. I want to have my own work, not always depend on you to survive. Do you understand what I mean?"
All the good things in my life now came from Jason.
But that doesn't mean I want to become a parasitic vine clinging to him.
"I'm so grateful to have met you in this life, to know and love each other, and I'm grateful we have Jessica and this happy life now. But I don't want to lose myself in this comfort."
When people live in comfort for too long, they lose their sense of crisis.
But after hearing my explanation, Jason's brow furrowed deeply.
"Honey, do you still not trust me?"
I knew he was worried about the aftereffects of hiding his identity back then.
That matter was long closed in my heart. I hadn't even thought about it in that way.
I reached out to smooth the wrinkles between his brows, speaking softly.
"Jason, this has nothing to do with trust."
"Putting your entire fate in someone else's hands is a very dangerous thing. I love you, I love you so much, but if I really had to do that, my heart would always be hanging in mid-air. Do you want me to live the rest of my life in constant anxiety?"
Jason opened his mouth but said nothing.
After a moment, he shook his head.
"Of course not. I want you to be happy and joyful, to always do as you please and just be yourself."
My heart softened, and my voice became even gentler.
"Right now, going out to work is what lets me do as I please."
"No matter how much money I make, even if it's just a few thousand dollars, it's money I earned with my own abilities. It proves I can survive on my own, so even if I lose you one day, I won't collapse."
Jason immediately got anxious, "I..."
I pressed my finger against Jason's lips, stopping him from continuing.
"I understand how you feel, and I've never doubted it. I'm doing this just to give myself more security, so we can live our lives with peace of mind."
"I know I'm ordinary and not some powerful career woman, but I want to prove my worth through my own efforts. Even if no matter how hard I try, I can only look up to you, I still want to do it. Jason, are you willing to support me?"
I don't have big ambitions.
I've never wanted to become some high-status female entrepreneur.
I just want to have my own job, to prove my value, so I don't spend every day in a daze.
Living aimlessly, lying on the couch watching TV and playing on my phone all day—that's nice for a short while.
But if it goes on too long, a person will waste away.
Jason looked at me deeply.
He pulled me into his arms.
He sighed helplessly, then said, "I understand, honey. Whatever you do, I'll support you. But remember, I'll always be your backup. If you're wronged, come to me."
I smiled.
Before I could speak, Jason held me tighter.
"One more thing—honey, you're not ordinary at all. You're the most special person in this world. Without you, I don't know what I'd be like now."
He turned his head and kissed my ear.
"You don't need to look up to me. I'll lift you up."
My nose tingled as emotion surged in my heart.
I couldn't help but hug Jason tightly, choking up, "Honey, thank you."
Jason patted my back soothingly, like comforting a child.
"Whatever you want, I'll give it to you."
We hugged quietly for a while.
After my emotions settled down, I gradually became aware of a large hand wandering around my waist.
I froze, then clearly felt Jason's breathing become heavy.
We'd done this many times before and were completely familiar with each other's bodies.
"Honey, we've never fucked in the study."
Jason's voice was hoarse.
My eyes widened, "Jason!"
He lifted his head to chase my lips, "Call me honey."
I tried to struggle, "Let's go back..."
My words were swallowed by a burning kiss.
