Chapter 174
Tyler couldn't help but say, "It's because you treated Sue so badly and broke her heart."
Cora's face instantly darkened.
Tyler quickly backtracked, "But anyway, you're still her mother. She definitely won't hold it against you. As long as you take the initiative to call and ask her out, she'll definitely come."
Cora frowned and stayed silent for a moment before finally taking out her phone.
She rarely called me on her own. She searched through her contacts for a long time before finally finding my number.
Meanwhile.
I was in the kitchen preparing vegetables when I heard my phone ring.
I pulled out my phone and froze when I saw who was calling.
It was actually Cora.
Why was she calling me?
I instinctively glanced outside.
The sky was dark and heavy—it was going to rain.
After thinking for a moment, I still answered.
Cora's voice on the other end sounded rather uncomfortable, "Let's have dinner together tonight. I'll send you the address in a bit."
After saying that, without giving me a chance to speak, she hung up directly.
Right after, my phone received a message with a restaurant address.
Did she really think I would go?
Did she think that as long as she said something, I would agree to anything?
Did Cora really still see me as that child who longed for maternal love?
I shook my head with some amusement and put the matter out of my mind.
I put my phone back in my pocket and continued cooking.
Lily and Ryan were also coming over for dinner tonight, so I needed to make more food.
While I was cooking, those two had already arrived.
Lily headed straight for the kitchen and gave me a big hug.
"Sue, come give me a hug!"
She hugged me tightly.
I still had water on my hands and was caught off guard by the hug, so I could only hold my hands up, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
Only then did Lily let go of me.
She first glanced outside, then whispered in my ear, "When I was with Chris, I already felt that the Miller family didn't have many good people. But back then I had rose-colored glasses on about Chris and didn't find him annoying. But looking at it now, they're all trash! And Chris is the trashiest of trash!"
After saying that, she seemed to suddenly realize something and looked at me, quickly adding, "But you're the exception! Sue, you'll always be the best in my heart."
I laughed and shook my head, then said, "But I'm not part of the Miller family. Even if Chris's blood runs through my veins, I don't acknowledge being part of the Miller family."
That whole family was selfish and self-serving.
Just thinking about them made me feel disgusted, let alone being related to them.
Lily nodded vigorously, "Exactly! We have nothing to do with the Miller family. They don't deserve to be associated with you at all!"
Then the two of us chatted while cooking.
Lily couldn't cook, so she just helped me out on the side.
She told me lots of interesting stories.
The atmosphere in the kitchen was especially warm and pleasant.
I knew Lily was deliberately finding topics to talk about because she was worried I'd be sad.
My heart felt warm.
When the food was ready, Lily carried the dishes out.
Even from the kitchen I could hear her loud voice, "Ryan! Jessica! Time to eat!"
After making up with Ryan, she was really full of energy.
I shook my head with a smile.
Just then, a figure drifted in and hugged me from behind.
My body instinctively tensed, then relaxed after recognizing who it was.
"You're back?"
Jason hummed in response, turned me around, and without a word lowered his head to kiss me.
I tilted my head up and kissed him back.
But before long, I pushed him away.
Jason wasn't satisfied and lowered his head wanting to continue.
I pressed my hands against his chest and said in a low voice, "Stop kissing, there are people outside!"
"They won't come in."
Jason's fingertips caressed my lips.
I still wasn't willing.
Only then did Jason reluctantly let me go.
I handed him the dish, saying with amusement, "Hurry up and take it out. How can you be so shameless?"
Jason affectionately pinched my face, then touched it again with lingering attachment.
"It's because you're too shy. We're in our own home—what's wrong with a couple of kisses?"
I gave him a look but didn't say anything more.
Unless I was crazy, I would never compete with Jason over who was more shameless.
The two of us carried the dishes out one after another.
I was about to go back to the kitchen to serve rice, but Jason pressed me down in a chair.
"You sit."
He looked at Jessica, "Come to the kitchen with me."
Jessica nodded obediently and followed Jason on her short little legs.
"Daddy said the first bowl goes to Mommy."
Jessica came out carrying a rice bowl and placed it in front of me, then turned and went back into the kitchen.
The father and daughter worked together, one serving rice and one carrying it out.
Finally Jason came out carrying a bowl of rice with utensils in his other hand.
"Let's eat."
Without needing help, Jessica had already climbed onto her stool and sat properly.
Lily's gaze moved between the two of them as she teased, "Your father-daughter duo gets along pretty well."
I nodded with a smile, quite satisfied with Jason's current behavior.
Good, he was being very obedient.
He and Jessica had been getting along much more harmoniously lately.
During the meal, my phone rang.
It was Cora calling.
I glanced at it, already knowing in my heart why she was calling, but still answered.
"What is it?"
If I didn't answer now, the calls would probably keep coming non-stop.
Might as well deal with it all at once to avoid ruining my appetite for dinner.
Cora's voice was full of impatience, "Didn't I send you the address? Where are you? Why haven't you arrived yet?"
I raised an eyebrow, "I never said I was going."
Cora's volume instantly shot up, "You! I don't care what you're thinking, get over here right now!"
I let out a cold laugh.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what I said."
Cora stopped talking and hung up directly.
I wasn't surprised at all.
The fact that Cora was willing to call me at all was already a miracle. She had condescended to notify me, and I didn't give her face—with her personality, if she could continue talking to me, that would be strange.
Jason didn't even ask whose call it was.
I was usually very good-tempered. The only ones who could make me not give them a pleasant face were Tyler and Cora.
This was really interesting.
The ones who could make me angry were actually my biological parents.
Jason looked up at me and gave me a piece of fish belly, "Eat."
I came back to my senses and lowered my head to eat.
The next day happened to be Saturday.
Jason took Jessica and me back to the Old Mansion for dinner.
Lucy's family also came today.
When Lucy saw me, she handed me a bag, "Take this."
I froze for a moment, not sure whether to accept it.
Kelly took the bag with a smile and stuffed it into my arms.
Under my confused gaze, Kelly took the initiative to explain, "This is cosmetics and skincare products recently developed by the Cooper family. My mom is in charge of this part. This new line is really good, so she specially brought it for you, sister-in-law."
She winked at me, "From now on, don't buy cosmetics and skincare products. Just come to my mom when you run out."
Lucy glared at Kelly somewhat awkwardly.
Only then did I realize that Lucy was trying to show goodwill toward me.
A smile appeared on my face as I looked at Lucy gratefully, "Thank you, Aunt Lucy."
