Chapter 173
Lily: [That's right! Sue, as long as you're okay with it!]
Lily: [But speaking of which, why is your dad only coming to find you now? From what you just told me, he clearly knew you existed, but he never acknowledged you as his daughter all these years. Why is he suddenly showing up now?]
Me: [Apparently the Miller Group is having some issues right now, and he wants Jason to invest money in it.]
When Lily saw what I sent, she was so shocked she sent several memes in a row.
Lily: [That's so shameless! Sue, you absolutely must not pay any attention to him. He never took any responsibility as a father, and now that he needs you, he suddenly appears. Tell him to get lost! As far away as possible!]
Seeing her excited tone, I smiled slightly: [Don't worry, I definitely won't pay attention to him.]
Lily: [Good, just don't soften up!]
Over the next few days, Tyler somehow got my phone number.
He called me several times in a row.
The first time, I didn't know it was Tyler, so I answered.
After he identified himself, I hung up without hesitation.
After that, whenever Tyler called again, I didn't answer.
I didn't need to think to know what Tyler was calling about.
But he really thought too highly of himself.
I didn't have a father before, and I don't need one in the future either.
Today, I had just picked up Jessica from kindergarten and was about to get her in the car.
A man in a suit strode up to us, blocking our way.
"Ms. Wilson, Mr. Miller is looking for you. Please come with us."
I followed his gaze to see a luxury car parked by the roadside with its window down, Tyler sitting inside looking at me.
I pulled at the corner of my mouth and sneered, "He wants me to go, so I should go? Who does he think he is?"
The suited man looked at me with a somewhat complicated expression.
I couldn't be bothered to figure out what his look meant. I pushed past the man blocking our way, got Jessica in the car, started it, hit the gas, and left without hesitation.
Only after sitting in the car did Jessica ask me, "Mommy, who was that person sitting in the car just now? Why were they looking for us?"
I didn't want Jessica to know about these things.
These embarrassing, disgusting past events should end with me.
So I said, "An unimportant and very annoying person. If he comes looking for you, just ignore him."
Jessica's bright eyes were full of confusion.
She clearly didn't quite understand, but she still nodded.
"I'll listen to Mommy. People Mommy doesn't like, I don't like either!"
When Cora heard the knock on the door, she opened it in confusion. When she saw the man standing at the door, her expression changed instantly.
"What are you doing here?"
Tyler stood at the door, "Cora, long time no see."
Cora sneered, "Yeah, long time no see! You're so old now? I almost didn't recognize you."
Tyler paused, his gaze passing over Cora's face, "You're still the same as before."
Cora's expression softened a bit, and her tone became more peaceful, "How did you know I was here?"
"It's not hard for me to find out where you live. I came to see you today because I have something to talk to you about."
At these words, Cora got agitated again, "What do we have to talk about?"
Tyler remained calm, looking at Cora with a different kind of expression, "Don't be like this. Can you let me in first? It's not convenient to talk standing at the door."
Cora closed her mouth and stepped aside to let him in.
Tyler looked around the place, "Why are you living in a place like this? Did you spend all the money I gave you?"
Cora didn't respond.
Back then, Tyler had given her five million dollars to make her leave Seaside City.
After she returned to her hometown, she lived in her old house there. With five million dollars in savings, she didn't go out to work.
Living expenses didn't actually cost much. She only spent some when Luke was in college, and later when Luke got married, she gave a wedding gift of $380,000, then spent over three million on buying and decorating a wedding house.
Cora had thought life would be stable after that.
She never expected her daughter-in-law would want a divorce and demand a share of the property.
It was all Luke's fault for being too honest and actually selling the wedding house and giving that woman half the money!
If she hadn't been sick and hospitalized during that time and unaware of what was happening, she would never have let that woman take her money.
Later she went to make trouble several times, but it was useless. Even when the police came, they didn't help her.
Even Luke said to let it go, that he gave it willingly.
The house had appreciated over the years—bought for three million, sold for over five million.
Luke was still filial and gave her all the remaining money.
Now she had over three million dollars in hand, but she didn't dare spend it carelessly.
Luke was divorced and would need to marry again in the future. She had to save the money to buy Luke a house.
Housing prices in Seaside City were much more expensive—it would probably only be enough for a down payment.
But facing Tyler, Cora couldn't tell the truth.
Her lips moved, "I spent it all."
A flash of coldness passed through Tyler's eyes, "You spent it all on your son, didn't you? You're really something. I gave you five million dollars to raise our daughter, and what did you do? You mistreated Sue and spent all the money on someone else's son. That's too much!"
Cora was stunned and instinctively asked, "You've seen her? Did she tell you that?"
Her first reaction was that I had rushed to complain to Tyler.
Tyler shook his head, "I have indeed seen Sue, but she didn't tell me. I've investigated how you treated her all these years."
A sneer appeared on Cora's face.
She didn't think she had done anything wrong at all.
Cora said matter-of-factly, "So what? Once you gave me the money, it was mine. What right do you have to control how I spend it?"
Anger surged in Tyler's heart, "Sue is your daughter, born after you carried her for ten months! How could you bear to treat her like this!"
Cora's expression was exceptionally cold.
She scoffed, "You didn't want her either, so what right do you have to criticize me? Where were you for the past twenty years? If you care about her so much, why didn't you take her away? I didn't just throw her out to be bitten to death by wild dogs—that's good enough. What right do you have to blame me?"
Cora got angrier as she spoke.
"Tyler, let me tell you, the person least qualified to criticize me is you! If you hadn't pestered me back then, would I have gotten involved with you? Would I have gotten pregnant with her?"
Tyler was speechless, "What do you mean pestered you? We were both willing back then."
"Nonsense! You were the one who seduced me!"
"Fine, let's not talk about the past. I'm not trying to blame you for this."
Cora glared at him angrily.
Tyler cleared his throat and brought the topic back, "I'm not here to argue with you. I want to have dinner with Sue, but she won't agree."
Cora scoffed lightly, "So you came to ask me for help?"
"Yes."
"Why should I help you?"
"I'm not holding it against you for spending the money I gave you on someone else's son, so just help me arrange a meeting with Sue."
Cora frowned, "Even if I ask her out, she might not come. She's so cold now, even I, her mother, don't matter to her anymore."
