Chapter 161
"Sorry, Mr. Cooper specifically instructed that you can't go up."
The security guard said hesitantly.
Helen frowned, looking displeased, "I'm not looking for Jason, I'm looking for Thomas!"
The security guard looked helpless, "He also said not to let you go up."
"That's impossible!"
Helen raised her voice.
Her face darkened as she gritted her teeth.
Security guard: "We're telling the truth. Please don't make things difficult for us."
Seeing she couldn't go up, Helen turned to leave, and unexpectedly made eye contact with me, who was standing not far away observing her.
Although it was satisfying to see Helen frustrated, I had no interest in talking to her.
Ignoring her almost murderous glare, I walked past Helen toward Jason's private elevator.
Behind me came Helen's furious voice.
I shook my head and paid no attention.
As soon as I stepped out of the elevator, Jessica rushed over.
"Mommy!"
I smiled and hugged Jessica tight, rubbing her little head, "Baby, did you have fun today?"
"Daddy showed me so many interesting paintings! Those people are really amazing. I want to be that good too!"
Mentioning today's experience, Jessica immediately got excited.
Watching Jessica dance around excitedly in front of me, my heart melted completely.
After Jessica finished talking, I asked, "Where's your daddy?"
I'd been here for a while and hadn't seen Jason yet.
"Daddy's still working!"
Jessica cupped her little face in her hands and couldn't help sighing, "Daddy works so hard."
Before I could say anything, Samuel walked over, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Cooper asked you to go in and wait for him."
I waved my hand, "No need, I'll just wait here."
Samuel looked at me earnestly, "Mr. Cooper said he misses you so much that if you don't go in, he won't be able to work."
My cheeks felt a bit hot.
I never dreamed Jason would say such things in front of his staff.
Fine, I'd better go in.
Otherwise I was worried Jason might say something even more shocking.
"Alright then."
I said helplessly, taking Jessica to Jason's office.
The moment we stepped into the office, Jason's eyes lit up instantly.
The person who had been reporting inside automatically stopped talking.
I coughed awkwardly, "Please continue, don't mind us."
If it weren't for Jason, I wouldn't have come to wait inside the office at all.
Taking Jessica to sit on the sofa, my eyes scanned the entire office.
This wasn't my first time in Jason's office.
But it was my first time coming here as his girlfriend.
The experience felt completely different.
After looking around, my gaze finally settled on Jason.
No particular reason, mainly because just sitting there he was eye-catching enough, not to mention his face currently screamed—look, that's my woman—with pride.
Not only did I notice it, the person reporting clearly felt it too. He spoke rapidly and left in less than ten minutes.
Jason also closed his computer and strode over to us, "Sorry for the wait, let's go."
I nodded with relief, holding my bag in one hand and Jessica's hand in the other as we walked toward the office door.
The next moment, my hand was empty.
I just turned my head to see Jason had moved Jessica aside and stepped forward himself, his slender fingers naturally intertwining with mine.
Jason raised an eyebrow, his tone completely matter-of-fact, "You're a big kid now, you need to learn independence. Always holding mommy's hand will make people laugh at you."
Jessica wasn't buying it.
She snorted and ran to my other side, hugging my arm without hesitation and looking up at me with puppy eyes.
I was suddenly caught in the middle between these two, in a difficult position.
How were we supposed to leave?
I couldn't help but give Jason a helpless look.
He was such a grown man, yet competing with a child.
How childish could he be?
I handed my bag to Jason.
Jason pressed his lips together slightly but still reached out to take it.
I finally had a free hand to hold Jessica's.
One in each hand, we walked out of the office, instantly attracting everyone's attention.
I tried my best to ignore these stares.
After getting together with Jason, being watched by many people was inevitable.
I knew this before.
We took the elevator downstairs.
The elevator doors opened.
We had just stepped out when we were stunned by the scene before us.
Jessica was the first to call out, "It's Grandpa!"
We saw Helen, face flushed, pushing a bag into Thomas's arms.
Her voice was soft as she said, "I saw this tie while shopping today and thought it would suit you perfectly. I even picked your favorite color."
Thomas expressionlessly returned the bag to her.
"No need, I'll buy my own."
Helen playfully glared at Thomas, "Why not? Do we really need to be so formal with our relationship? This is just a token of my feelings. Just take it."
Thomas frowned, "What relationship? Helen, don't forget we've been divorced for a long time. Can you have some self-awareness as an ex-wife and stop bothering me?"
Helen bit her lip, looking hurt.
But she seemed to suddenly think of something and smiled again, "Thomas, I'm divorced."
"What's that got to do with me!"
"But I'm single now."
"I know you're single too. After divorcing me, you never remarried. I understand—you still have feelings for me."
Helen spoke earnestly, "We're both unmarried now, why don't we remarry?"
Sure enough, today wasn't a good day to go out.
Unexpectedly overhearing the elders' drama—how awkward!
Helen hadn't seen us yet and continued speaking earnestly, "Thomas, I understand everything. You haven't gotten married all these years because you've been waiting for me, right? Now I'm back, we can remarry."
Thomas finally couldn't take it anymore. He frowned deeply and said sternly, "Who told you I didn't remarry because I couldn't forget you? Who do you think you are to have such charm? I didn't remarry simply because I didn't want to. It has nothing to do with you!"
Helen wouldn't listen at all, "I don't believe it. Thomas, you've always been stubborn. Admitting you were waiting for me isn't embarrassing. I'm planning to remarry you too. When should we have the wedding?"
Thomas's mouth twitched, "Can you go to a mental hospital and get your head checked? Did staying abroad too long mess up your brain?"
"Thomas..."
Helen wanted to say more, but Thomas backed away repeatedly as if encountering something dirty.
He turned his head and, by sheer coincidence, made eye contact with us.
Thomas's face instantly turned red!
I also looked away awkwardly.
I hadn't meant to watch the elders' drama, but they were blocking the elevator entrance and we couldn't get out.
Thomas cleared his throat, "Where are you all going?"
I answered instinctively, "To eat."
Jessica blinked, ran to Thomas's side, and pulled his hand, "Grandpa, will you come with us?"
