Chapter 134
After Jason finished speaking, he still felt it wasn't enough and added, "Samuel is getting bolder and bolder. Such an important matter, and he didn't even ask for my opinion!"
He seemed to be treating me like an idiot.
I rolled my eyes, not wanting to deal with Jason's one-man show, and walked away quickly.
Back in the master bedroom, my phone rang.
It was a call from Jessica.
Thinking of Jessica, my mood instantly improved, and I answered right away.
"Jessica, what's up?"
"Mom, are you coming to pick me up tomorrow?"
Jessica's voice came through the phone with a hint of anticipation.
I answered gently, "Of course, I'll come over after breakfast tomorrow morning."
Jessica was confused, "But tomorrow is a weekday, aren't you going to work?"
I didn't plan to let Jessica know I'd been fired.
If she knew anything, she'd easily overthink things.
"I'm taking some time off, so I can take you out to have fun."
"That's great!" Jessica cheered with delight.
Jessica paused, her voice softening a bit.
"But I don't need to go out. You work so hard normally; if you finally have time off, you should rest properly."
Hearing Jessica's words, my heart melted.
I answered softly, "I haven't really rested lately. Will you come out and have fun with me?"
Jessica thought for a moment and asked me, "Where do you want to go?"
"Um... I haven't decided yet. I'll tell you once I figure it out, okay?"
I could take some time to think about where to go to have fun.
After being so busy for all these years, I could finally catch my breath. This feeling wasn't bad at all.
"Okay, Mom."
"I'll pick you up tomorrow then. Good night."
After hanging up, I lay in bed ready to sleep.
Then the phone rang again. It was Lily.
"Sue, was there something you wanted when you called me earlier?"
I had already calmed down, but hearing Lily's question, I couldn't help but laugh again.
Lily paused on the other end, then asked tentatively, "What's going on? Did you win the lottery?"
"No, I got fired by the company," I answered with a smile.
Lily was confused for a moment, "You got fired, and you're this happy? Have you lost your mind?"
"No, DT Corp gave me quite a bit of money," I said cheerfully.
Lily was even more confused.
She couldn't help asking, "You're not having a mental breakdown from the shock of losing your job, are you... Even if it's severance pay, how much could it be? A hundred thousand? Two hundred thousand?"
I said, "Think bigger, guess higher."
Lily answered, "Five hundred thousand? It can't be a million, right?"
"Fifty million."
"What?!"
As soon as I said it, Lily's voice shot up, asking in disbelief, "Fifty million? Has DT Corp gone crazy?"
I took the opportunity to tell her about Mia trying to drug Brian and me.
Lily first cursed Mia angrily, then belatedly asked me, "Is this fifty million Mr. Terry's compensation to you?"
"Yes, but if Jason hadn't put pressure on them, it definitely wouldn't have been this much."
Lily replied, "See, having a powerful man behind you is really important."
I continued, "Oh, right, I moved. I'll send you my new address in a bit."
"Huh? Where did you move to?" Lily was stunned.
"Jason transferred a villa into my name. Now I'm a little rich lady with property and savings."
Now, no matter how angry I got, just looking at my bank balance could cheer me up.
Lily couldn't help but sigh, "Sue, I can't help being jealous of you. Jason is so generous and devoted. Look at me before, with that damn scumbag for so many years, and all he gave me were a few designer bags. He didn't even buy me a small apartment, and I'm still renting now."
I didn't say anything.
If you didn't look at what happened five years ago and didn't consider my concerns, Jason was indeed a very good boyfriend. He was rich, handsome, and very generous.
Lily couldn't help saying, "Get married! You two should get married right now!"
I sighed, "Actually, I haven't really thought things through between us. Although Jason is really good to me now, I don't dare think about the future. What if he changes his mind later? Should I spend my whole life with a man who doesn't love me? And before..."
Just thinking about these things made me hesitant, unable to take that step.
"You're just overthinking. Jason loves you now, and you can't let him go either. Isn't it normal for you two to get married? Why are you thinking so much? None of these things has happened yet! Even if they do happen, you can get half the assets if you divorce Jason. You'd be set for life. Why can't you see that?"
I didn't want to continue this topic, so I changed the subject to "How have you been lately? I feel like you and Ryan are getting along really well. Not thinking about taking things further?"
Lily was silent for a moment before continuing, "Not thinking about it for now. Things are good as they are."
The phone fell silent for a moment.
I thought for a bit and said, "To celebrate my sudden wealth, after you get off work tomorrow, dinner's on me."
"Great, then I want that most expensive Japanese restaurant!"
I agreed right away, "No problem."
I rolled over, lying on my stomach on the bed, saying with a grin, "I'm a nouveau riche now!"
While chatting with Lily, I suddenly felt my foot tickling.
I turned my head to see Jason sitting at the foot of the bed with a resentful look on his face, his fingers mischievously tickling me.
I immediately hid my feet under the covers.
"I've got to go, something came up here."
After saying goodbye to Lily and hanging up, I stared at Jason, "What?"
Jason's eyes lit up, "Can we? I'm ready!"
I instantly realized what he was talking about, and my face turned bright red, "No!"
Jason looked at me pitifully, "Why not? It's already been a day of rest. You should be well-rested by now..."
As he spoke, his gaze moved downward.
I clutched the blanket tightly in embarrassment, glaring at him threateningly, "No means no. Get out now!"
Jason's expression became even more resentful.
He leaned closer, looking at me pleadingly, "Really not? I miss you so much."
I grabbed a pillow and threw it hard at him!
