Chapter 133

Chapter 133

I suddenly understood why Terry fired me out of the blue!

After working at DT Corp for so long, I had a pretty good sense of the company's financial situation.

That fifty million was definitely a huge expense for Terry, too.

Because of Mia, plus Jason's pressure, having to compensate me a full fifty million - he must have been really unhappy about it deep down.

Rather than letting me continue working at DT Corp and being an eyesore, he might as well fire me.

Terry didn't dare have an issue with Jason, so he could only fire me to vent his frustration.

I thought my reasoning made perfect sense.

While I was thinking about this, I heard Jason ask tentatively, "Sue, now that you have fifty million, are you still going to keep working?"

I snapped back to reality and answered, "There's no job to go to anymore. I got fired."

"What? They actually fired you!"

Jason's eyes widened. He slammed the table hard, his voice full of anger. "You're the victim, and they still fired you?"

I glanced at him but said nothing.

If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have gotten this fifty million either.

Jason looked at me seriously, reached out to hold my hand, and said, "Sue, don't worry. I'll definitely go find them and get justice for you!"

I quickly stopped him and shook my head. "This already costs Mr. Terry fifty million. He's upset, so firing me is pretty normal. I understand. Don't make things difficult for him."

Jason stared at me for a moment, then asked, "You're really not upset?"

I don't know if it was just my imagination, but I felt like he seemed pretty happy when he said that.

I answered slowly, "If I didn't have this fifty million, I'd probably be upset. And I'd be really anxious about what to do in the future. But now I have money, so I feel secure and not worried. There's nothing to be upset about."

Now I have my own house and fifty million in savings.

Jason looked at me with bright eyes.

He lowered his voice with a somewhat tempting tone, "Sue, let me tell you an even better way to make money. Want to hear it?"

I looked up at him.

Jason said, "As long as you marry me, you'll never have to worry about money for the rest of your life."

I quickly looked away and said, "No thanks. That's your money, and you could take it back anytime."

Jason said without hesitation, "I can give you all the money as a voluntary gift!"

But I still shook my head. "Promises only work when there's love. You're saying nice things now, but if one day you get tired of me, it just becomes you supporting me."

This kind of thing wasn't uncommon.

At least when I occasionally heard gossip at the company, I'd heard plenty of stories like that.

Jason's mouth twitched. "Sue, do you really think I'm that heartless? And our relationship will never come to that! My true feelings for you will never change!"

I looked at him firmly and said, "Jason, I'm not a naive little girl anymore. I don't believe in promises. No matter how certain you sound right now, I won't believe it."

My experiences over the years made it crystal clear to me that the only person I could rely on was myself.

Jason fell silent.

After a moment, Jason asked tentatively, "Then do you want to come work at my company? I have a secretary position that just opened up, and the pay will definitely be better than DT Corp's."

This time, I was even more decisive. "No."

Rather than facing Jason all the time, I'd rather go out and find another job.

Jason opened his mouth, wanting to say more.

I cut him off first. "If we don't eat soon, the food will get cold."

The villa's kitchen had the latest dishwasher installed.

I studied the manual for a while before putting the dishes in to wash.

It had wash, dry, and sterilize functions all in one. You just put things in and didn't have to worry about it. I was really satisfied with that.

When I came out of the kitchen, I didn't see Jason.

I looked around the first floor but didn't find him.

I didn't think Jason would leave so obediently today, so I went upstairs to look.

When I saw Jason standing in the master bedroom with his back to me, looking down at a pile of things on the floor that I hadn't had time to organize yet.

My face suddenly changed, and I rushed over!

Jason was holding the little dolphin plushie in his hand. When he saw me coming, he looked at me in shock.

"Sue, you still kept it."

That was from five years ago when we went to the ocean park together, and Jason bought it for me.

Jason's gaze became more and more intense.

I looked away uncomfortably and explained, "I only kept it because I like it. It has nothing to do with you!"

Jason nodded, then his gaze moved to the bracelet he'd given me before.

My face turned red, and I quickly grabbed something to cover it!

Jason's voice carried a hint of laughter. "I'll help you organize things."

"No!" I raised my voice to refuse, pushing him toward the door. "Hurry up and get out! How can you just walk into my bedroom?"

Jason held back a laugh and let me push him out.

I closed the door and leaned against it, rubbing my burning face hard.

How did he see all of that?

Today I'd only had time to sort and put away Jessica's things. My stuff was temporarily scattered in the master bedroom, and I didn't expect Jason to see it.

My gaze fell on the little dolphin.

I pressed my lips together and picked it up. After hesitating for a moment, I stuffed it into the closet.

I paused, then pushed it further in twice more and covered it with clothes.

As for that bracelet, I shoved it back into the very back of the drawer and covered it up.

After tidying up a bit, I took my pajamas to the bathroom to shower.

After showering and coming out of my room, I saw the door to the next room slightly open with light coming from inside.

I paused and walked over, pushing the door open.

Jason was sitting on the bed in pajamas with a laptop on his lap, apparently working.

My gaze fell on his pajamas. As if thinking of something, I walked into the room and pulled open the bedroom closet door.

Sure enough, it was full of Jason's clothes.

Various styles and types, colors ranging from light to dark, all neatly hung inside.

I was silent for two seconds, then turned to stare at Jason. "Don't you have an explanation?"

Only then did Jason look up from his laptop and answer awkwardly, "Samuel prepared all this. I only found out after I got here. He just likes to make decisions on his own. He never told me about it. Don't be angry."
