It’s Saturday and I have a big surprise for both my girls; Nikki is going to a friend which I organized with Caroline’s dad and Nicol and I will have the whole day to spend together. When we were all sitting around the kitchen table busy eating breakfast I told them. “I have a surprise for the two of you today.” “What? What?” Nikki asked. “Well Nikki you are going to Caroline for the day and you are sleeping over.” “No way.” She said excited, “Caroline didn’t say anything to me.” “It’s because it’s a surprise, go pack.” She jumped up and ran to her room. “That was nice of you.” Nicol said. “Not really, actually selfish if you think about it, I want you all to myself today.” “I can’t think of anything better. What have you planned for us?” “Today anything you want to do, tonight I’m taking you to a fancy restaurant.”
Nikki came running into the kitchen “I’m packed.” “Okay let mom and I just get our things and we will take you.” Nicol and I got our jackets and walked to the lift where Geoffrey was waiting for us. When we got to Caroline’s place Nikki didn’t want us to get out she wanted to be a big girl and go in by herself. “Let Geoffrey just take you to the doorman Nikki.” I negotiated. “Okay but just to the doorman.” “Yes, just to the doorman.” She hugged me and then her mom and jumped out of the SUV with her bag on her back. “Is she really at this age where she wants to do everything on her own?” Nikki asked. “She is but don’t worry.” I touched her stomach “here is another one that will need all our attention and won’t be able to do anything without us for a long while.” Nicol smiled at me “That is true.” When Nikki was safely in the building and Geoffrey got back in the SUV, I asked Nicol “So where to?” “I’m in the mood for shopping.” “Oh, good I’m always in the mood for shopping.” I said smiling at her. “Are we buying you new cloths?” “No, I was thinking baby things.” “You think it’s time yet?” I was so scared to buy anything and it was to soon. “3 months is past I’m not saying nothing else can go wrong but for now I’m sure we can buy a few stuffs.” “Oh God women you made me the happiest man alive today.” “Why because I wanted to go shop for baby stuff?” “Yes, you don’t know how l long I wanted to buy just something for the baby and today we can finally do that.” She leaned in and kissed me. “I’ve never seen a man so happy to go shopping for baby stuff.” I touched her belly again. “It’s because this man can’t wait to meet this little peanut.” She just smiled at me.
When Geoffrey stopped at the first store I jumped out and opened the door for Nicol. Before we walked into the store Nicol touched my chest, “We not buying the whole store Nicolas.” “Oh, you know me so well.” I winked at her. “Nope we are not going in not until you promise me, we are not buying the whole store.” “Okay okay I promise.” When I saw all the beautiful things in the store I was so upset that I made her the promise, I wanted to buy at least one of each. The cloths were all neutral colors which means it can be used for a boy or a girl. Nicol was carrying a basket and I was throwing in cloths as far as we walked. She stopped suddenly making me walked into her. She looked at me quite amused. “Have you even checked the sizes of the cloths you just put in here.” She made me look at the basket, it was overflowing. I grabbed it from her. “Sorry I didn’t see I was packing so much in the basket.” She looked at the cloths I put in “This one is for a baby of a year old we don’t need this, not yet.” “But I liked the cloths.” “Okay but can we look for newborn or 1-3 months and 3-6 months?” “Okay and we can keep the cloths then?” I asked because I knew I went overboard. “Yes Nicolas.” I went to every row I got the cloths and got the new born, 1-3 and 3-6 months in the same outfits, hopefully Nicol won’t notice in the store but rather at home, where I can sweet talk her.
We finished in the clothing store, I got away with the cloths I picked, Nicol got a few blankets, towels, dummies, bottles and bottle warmers all the practical stuff I was into the clothing. When Nicol saw the price of everything, she just gave me a look of shock. I stepped in front of her and paid the cashier. We grabbed the bags and walked out to where Geoffrey was standing. When we put everything in the boot the boot was half full. “What did you get?” She asked me. “Just cloths.” I said innocently. “Jeez Nicolas. I think we should go home now especially after that hefty bill.” “Nonsense where to next?” I asked her, I was just getting in the mood to shop. “Okay we can go and look for prams and baby seats and all the bigger stuff.” “Okay then let’s go.”
