Chapter 321 Let Them Have Internal Strife
"Willow, are you sure?" Chris asked uncertainly.
Otha actually lost that much money?
Willow nodded, "Ava said Otha went really big this time."
Chris couldn't sit still anymore. He stood up and paced back and forth, his face dark as iron. "This is impossible. What the hell is that idiot Otha doing! I'm going to ask him."
Chris hurriedly left the study.
Maddox hadn't said anything the whole time, but a flash of insight crossed his mind.
With a serious expression, he quickly called his subordinates. "Go check how much money Otha has actually lost gambling recently. Get me an answer as soon as possible."
After hanging up, Maddox frowned and fell into deep thought.
Chris's suspicions from not long ago might actually be true.
Their plan this time should have been foolproof, but Elizabeth had managed to defuse it.
Elizabeth might really have found out about their plot to harm her through some channel beforehand!
Seeing Maddox deep in thought with a serious face, Willow quietly left the study first.
Soon after, Maddox's subordinate called him back. "Mr. Maddox Sherman, we found out that Mr. Otha Sherman lost 1.5 billion dollars at the casino last night, and he's lost a lot of money before too. He's also borrowed quite a bit from loan sharks now."
After hearing this, Maddox's face immediately darkened.
He suddenly realized that Otha might have leaked their plot to harm Elizabeth.
However, Maddox needed to investigate this matter thoroughly before drawing any conclusions.
"Keep checking. Find out who Otha has been in contact with recently," Maddox ordered coldly.
Maddox decided to go find Otha and probe the situation.
Chris had just arrived at Otha's house not long ago when Maddox also arrived.
Otha was catching up on sleep and had been dragged out of bed by Chris, so he was particularly irritable. Not daring to lose his temper at Chris, he could only take it out on his wife Ava. "You and your big mouth."
Ava's face also looked unpleasant. Being scolded by Otha like this in front of Chris and the others was very humiliating.
Seeing that Maddox had also come, Otha could only irritably scratch his hair. "Can you guys wait until I've had enough sleep before coming to find me?"
"No," Chris snorted coldly. He got straight to the point and asked, "I heard you lost over a billion dollars at the casino?"
Otha listlessly went to sit on the sofa and said dejectedly, "Yes."
"Otha, don't you have a brain? Why would you go and play that big for no reason?" Chris was speechless.
Although it wasn't Chris's money, for the sake of knowing each other for so long, Chris still had to give Otha some advice.
Otha had no way to defend himself. This time he had gotten more and more carried away, and by the time he came to his senses, the losses were already severe.
Maddox, who hadn't spoken the whole time, stared at Otha and asked in a calm but oppressive tone, "How much did you actually lose?"
Otha lowered his head and said vaguely, "Over a billion dollars, I guess."
Maddox sneered, "Over a billion dollars? I've already had people investigate. You also owe loan sharks. If you already owe loan sharks, it can't be just over a billion dollars in losses, right?"
Hearing Maddox say this, Ava looked at her husband Otha in shock. "You also owe loan sharks?"
Otha glared at her. "Shut up. Get out."
Maddox's eyes turned cold. "I think you're the one who needs to shut up. How much do you actually owe loan sharks?"
Otha suddenly looked at Maddox and Chris with a hint of pleading in his tone. "Can you lend me money to pay off the loan sharks first? It's not much for you guys, just 2.5 billion dollars."
Both Maddox and Chris's faces became serious.
Chris frowned. "Otha, 2.5 billion dollars? Do you know what you're saying? You actually owe that much to loan sharks? Are you an idiot? Who would lend you that much?"
Otha's voice carried helplessness and despair. "I know I did wrong, but I really have no other choice. Help me this once, and I'll definitely pay you back later. I borrowed from the casino's loan sharks."
Maddox didn't want to lend the money. If he lent it out, he probably wouldn't get it back.
But he couldn't say it so directly. He could only minimize the loss. "You brought this on yourself. Now you want us to help you deal with it. You can go find Rocco and the others, borrow a little from each person."
Otha thought Maddox's suggestion was good. If everyone lent a little, the money would be enough.
Maddox thought about it and still felt something was strange. "Were you set up by someone?"
Otherwise, how did Otha end up almost bankrupt?
Otha was stunned. "Probably not?"
Was someone really setting him up?
Maddox glanced at Otha and stood up. "I'm leaving. I'll investigate this for you."
Otha nodded gratefully. "Maddox, thank you."
Seeing Maddox leave, Chris also left in a bad mood.
After leaving Otha's house and returning to his car, Maddox's brows were tightly furrowed. He felt that Otha's situation wasn't simple.
As soon as Maddox got home, he received a call from his subordinate.
The subordinate on the other end spoke cautiously. "We found something. A while ago, Mr. Grant, who's close to Ms. Penrose, met with Mr. Sherman. We don't know if it was by chance."
Maddox frowned, a flash of coldness in his eyes. "Mr. Grant?"
Then Maddox sneered. "Good. Looks like I might have been betrayed by one of my own."
After hanging up, Maddox planned to test Otha later to see if Otha had really sold them out.
However, Maddox was already ninety percent certain that it was Otha who had betrayed them.
Maddox directly called Otha.
On the other end, Otha answered the phone in confusion. Why was he calling again right after leaving?
Maddox said calmly and kindly, "I'll temporarily lend you 200 million dollars." Maddox pretended to sigh and continued, "Tomorrow I'm planning to send someone to wait downstairs at Seraphina Enterprises for Elizabeth and have them throw sulfuric acid on her. If a woman's face is ruined, she should be in a lot of pain."
When Otha heard that Maddox could only lend him 200 million dollars, he felt a bit unhappy.
But when he heard Maddox's next sentence, his eyes rolled and he became happy inside.
He was about to make another sum of money from Elizabeth.
Otha asked curiously, "Cousin, are you planning to send someone to throw disfiguring liquid on Elizabeth this time? Is the person you're sending reliable?"
Maddox narrowed his eyes and smiled coldly. "Very reliable."
After Otha ended the call with Maddox, he immediately contacted Jacob.
Jacob answered the phone and heard Otha smiling on the other end. "Mr. Grant, I have some information to trade with Elizabeth."
Jacob also smiled. "Good."
Otha told Jacob about Maddox arranging for someone to wait for Elizabeth downstairs at the company tomorrow.
Both parties were satisfied with this transaction.
After hanging up, Jacob went to knock on Elizabeth's office door.
After hearing "come in," Jacob pushed open the door and walked into the office, just in time to see Timothy feeding Elizabeth something.
Seeing this loving scene, Jacob waited for Elizabeth to finish eating before saying, "Chairwoman Penrose, Otha called to sell information. He said Maddox has arranged for someone to be downstairs at the company tomorrow."
Jacob had just gotten to this point when he saw Timothy pinch Elizabeth's ear with a half-smile.
Elizabeth fell silent. Why was he pinching her ear again?
Jacob tactfully turned and left the office.
After Jacob left, Elizabeth quickly explained everything. "Otha owing loan sharks and Otha meeting with Jacob were both things I deliberately let Maddox find out. Maddox should now also suspect that Otha betrayed him."
Timothy let go of Elizabeth's ear, reached out to pinch Elizabeth's chin, and asked with a smile, "Elizabeth, are you planning to make them fight among themselves first?"
A flash of cunning crossed Elizabeth's eyes. "That's right. Now I just need to add a little fuel to the fire, and I can make them completely turn against each other."
Timothy laughed quietly. His fingertip gently rubbed the corner of Elizabeth's mischievous eye.
