Maddox sent someone to throw something at Elizabeth at Seraphina Enterprises.
It was just water, not disfiguring sulfuric acid.
His main purpose this time was to test whether Otha had sold information to Elizabeth, which is why he chose to have water thrown.

Maddox smiled, "Chris suggested that I have someone kidnap Elizabeth's mother tomorrow, then threaten Elizabeth."
Otha said in surprise, "Kidnap Freya? But don't Elizabeth and Freya have a bad relationship? Would kidnapping Freya even work?"
Maddox said with certainty, "Although their relationship is bad, they're still mother and daughter no matter what. Elizabeth can't just stand by and ignore Freya, right?"
Otha nodded thoughtfully, "True, no matter how bad the relationship is, the blood connection is still there."
Maddox continued meaningfully, "But this time we need to be more careful and not let Elizabeth ruin our plan."
Otha was dying to know the specific details of the plan, but unfortunately, Maddox didn't plan to tell Otha too much.
