Chapter 320: Wait and See
When Timothy woke up in the morning, his anger had mostly faded.
As Elizabeth was getting ready to leave for work, she walked up to Timothy with a smile and asked for a kiss.
Timothy bent down and lowered his head to meet her kiss.
"I'll bring you lunch at noon," he said.
Elizabeth nodded, waved, and got into her car.
At 9:30 in the morning, Elizabeth was preparing for an important meeting in the company's conference room.
Before the meeting, she called Maddox.
"Good morning, Mr. Sherman." Elizabeth's voice was calm with a hint of mockery. "Just wanted to let you know I'm safe and sound. I'm doing great, thank you for looking after me during this time."
Maddox had been waiting for news from Brian and Aurora early that morning. When he received Elizabeth's call, his face immediately darkened.
He sneered, "Ms. Penrose, how thoughtful of you to specifically let me know you're safe."
"I treasure this last chance to report my safety to you," Elizabeth sighed and chuckled softly. "You're in such great shape—otherwise you wouldn't be jumping around so much. As a junior, I'm genuinely happy for you."
Maddox said through gritted teeth, "Elizabeth, don't get too cocky. One day you'll regret this."
They had basically torn off all pretense now.
"You'll probably regret it before I do," Elizabeth said calmly. "Let's wait and see, Mr. Sherman. I wish you a pleasant day."
After hanging up, Maddox was furious.
Elizabeth smiled as she walked out of her office. Robbie grabbed some documents and quickly followed her to the conference room.
Inside the conference room, the company's executives had been waiting for a while.
Elizabeth walked to the conference table, looked around, and said with a smile, "Everyone, our company has gone through various challenges recently. I'm very glad that we all worked together to get through this difficult time."
"Today, the company will be giving performance bonuses to all employees of Seraphina Enterprises."
The executives applauded happily.
Who wouldn't be happy about getting a bonus?
"Today we also need to discuss plans for the new quarter. We must ensure our website's products maintain their competitive edge in the market."
Her voice was calm as she looked at the managers present. "Everyone, please feel free to share your suggestions."
Meanwhile, not long after receiving Elizabeth's call, Maddox got angrier the more he thought about it and smashed the teacup in his hand.
His face was dark with anger as he cursed, "I don't believe Elizabeth's luck can be this good!"
Chris, who had come to see Maddox, happened to witness him smashing the cup.
"Did it fail?" Chris asked in a low voice, frowning.
"Yes," Maddox was really frustrated. Every time he schemed against Elizabeth, she managed to dodge it. "We can't let her keep being so arrogant. We must find her weakness."
Chris frowned in thought. "Her weakness? Apart from that child who supposedly died, I don't see any other weakness."
He suddenly paused, thought for a moment, and continued, "We planned everything perfectly this time. How could Elizabeth avoid it? Actually, I'm starting to wonder if she knew about our plans in advance."
Maddox frowned, considering this. "Are you suggesting someone planted a bug in the club's private room?"
Chris shook his head. "There definitely weren't any bugs or cameras. You should know our habits—before we enter a private room at the club, we always have bodyguards check it first. This time, Otha's bodyguard was responsible for checking the room. He got there first."
"Let me call Otha and ask," Maddox said, picking up his phone from the desk to call Otha.
Half an hour earlier, Otha had returned from the casino looking dejected and was now lying in bed in a deep sleep, completely drained.
The phone rang and stopped, then rang again.
Otha reached for the phone on his nightstand without looking at the caller ID and cursed, "Fuck you, why do you keep calling? I'm busy right now!"
Hearing Otha's curse, Maddox's face immediately darkened.
He said coldly, "Otha, who are you cursing at?"
When Otha heard it was Maddox, his mind cleared up a bit, though his voice still sounded drowsy. "Maddox, I'm sorry, I didn't know it was you. I didn't check the caller ID just now."
Otha yawned several times.
"You're still sleeping at this hour?" Maddox didn't wait for Otha to answer and went straight to the important question. "The other night when we met at the club, did your bodyguard find anything unusual when checking the room?"
Maddox's sudden question startled Otha awake.
Otha laughed nervously and quickly replied, "No, nothing unusual at all. I'm really tired, I need to sleep."
He hung up guiltily.
Maddox looked at the disconnected call and snorted coldly. He turned to Chris and said, "Otha had his bodyguard check the room. They didn't find any problems."
Chris sighed. "Then maybe I guessed wrong. Elizabeth probably didn't know about our plans beforehand. What a shame—such a good plan and opportunity, and she's still doing just fine."
Willow stood outside the study holding a tray. She knocked and entered.
She brought coffee for Maddox and Chris.
Chris took the coffee and thanked her.
Willow placed the second cup of coffee on Maddox's desk. She didn't leave the study immediately but said, "Just now, Otha's wife Ava called crying. She said Otha has been addicted to gambling lately and has already lost a lot of money. She wants you to talk some sense into him."
Chris raised his eyebrows indifferently. "Don't worry about Otha's business. He's always been a gambler. It's always been like this."
Willow hesitated before speaking. "But from what I heard from Ava's crying, it seems Otha lost a lot last night—at least over a billion dollars."
"What?" Chris's voice immediately rose. "Before it was at most a few tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. How did it suddenly become billions?"
