Chapter 181 Dazzling
Elizabeth turned her head away, looking elsewhere.
She stopped looking at Timothy.
Timothy's lips twitched, and his eyes turned cold.
The moment the lights came on in the banquet hall, Elizabeth pressed her red lips together, trying hard to pull her hand away.
Timothy let go of Elizabeth's hand the instant the lights came on.
He still didn't want to force her like this.
He sat up straight, and the faint scent of her perfume gradually faded from his nose.
The hand that had just held Elizabeth's tightly clenched into a fist, as if trying to hold onto the feeling of holding her small hand.
Five whole years.
He missed her so much his hair had turned white at the temples.
Elizabeth was stunned for a moment.
The warmth on her hand was already gone.
Vincent came over with a wine glass to get Elizabeth - he wanted to introduce her to people in their circle.
Normally, taking Elizabeth around to toast and meet people should have been Jake's job.
Elizabeth left with Vincent, holding her wine glass.
Emma was laughing like crazy inside, but she smiled lightly and said, "I really didn't expect Elizabeth had been married for five years. We never got to drink at their wedding - what a shame."
"You know Elizabeth?" Calliope smiled. "Young people sometimes like to keep things low-key."
"Elizabeth and I are both from Silverlight City, so we know each other." Emma smiled without saying more.
Vincent and Calliope had actually asked Elizabeth about her family when chatting with her last night.
They didn't really know much about Elizabeth's past. Jake hadn't given them a chance to ask clearly - he just told them Elizabeth was back in the country to help manage the company.
Vincent and Calliope were pretty open-minded. After being frustrated with Jake for so many years, now that Elizabeth had arrived, they'd come to terms with it.
Mira raised an eyebrow. "I can tell Calliope is very satisfied with Mrs. Sherman."
This woman Elizabeth seemed to have some serious schemes.
"Of course, Elizabeth is wonderful. It's our Jake who doesn't deserve her." Calliope said modestly.
Mira smiled meaningfully.
Timothy's fingers gripped his teacup as he looked down with a cold expression.
Mira's gaze swept over Timothy. She paused, then raised her wine glass. "Timothy, let's have a drink."
Timothy said flatly, "Sorry, I'm not well. I can't drink alcohol."
Mira shrugged and didn't push it.
Listening to them discuss Elizabeth and Jake's marriage, Timothy couldn't control the violent anger in his heart.
Timothy didn't know how much longer he could keep control.
"I'm sorry." A server carrying a tray of drinks bumped into the table where Elizabeth was toasting.
The server looked up - it was Mindy.
Seeing Elizabeth, she shrieked in surprise, "After you and my brother divorced, we haven't seen each other in so long. What are you doing here?"
What Mindy said was loud enough for anyone who wasn't deaf to hear.
Everyone looked at Elizabeth.
Then at Mindy.
Elizabeth was a divorced woman?
But in this day and age, getting remarried after divorce wasn't a big deal as long as the Sherman family didn't mind.
Elizabeth's expression didn't change. She smiled slightly. "Oh, it's you. After your brother and I divorced, there was no need for us to see each other again, right?"
She didn't try to deny it.
Because she had no need to hide it.
It's just that at tonight's banquet, she didn't need to waste time arguing with Mindy.
She held her wine glass and continued smiling at the guest she was about to greet. "Mr. Vaughan, let me toast to you."
The people at tonight's banquet had all been through major ups and downs. Seeing that the Sherman family didn't have much reaction, naturally they wouldn't either.
Rex Vaughan clinked glasses with Elizabeth with a smile. "Even though I didn't get to drink at your and Jake's wedding, I still want to say congratulations now."
"Thank you." Elizabeth smiled.
Mindy didn't expect everyone to react this way. She felt like a complete joke.
How could this be?
Wasn't Elizabeth supposed to be embarrassed?
She probably didn't really understand who the guests at tonight's banquet were.
The VIPs present were all important figures in their families. Their intelligence was not low.
Emma secretly despised Mindy in her heart. Completely useless - coming to the banquet to see Elizabeth and only managing to say that one line.
Really suffocating.
Timothy slowly stood up. He looked up at the glaring wedding photo on the screen.
Just when everyone thought Timothy was preparing to leave the banquet, they saw him walk toward Vincent instead. "Mr. Sherman, sorry, something came up. I need to leave first."
Timothy raised his chin toward Mindy's direction and said flatly, "She's Cecilia's granddaughter. Not very sensible. I'll take her away."
He looked at Elizabeth, his eyes full of meaning. "Ms. Penrose, let's chat when you're free."
He wouldn't acknowledge her as Jake's wife.
Mindy didn't expect Timothy to come over.
Elizabeth had married someone else - shouldn't that embarrass Timothy too?
What was wrong with him!
Even now he was still stepping in to help Elizabeth out!
Now Mindy was scared. She started shouting, "Mr. Robinson, for the sake of..."
Before she could finish saying "for the sake of Elizabeth, you're suppressing the Johnson Group," Joe had already knocked Mindy out.
Joe smiled as he supported Mindy and followed Timothy out of the banquet hall.
Elizabeth's heart trembled slightly, but her expression didn't change as she continued with Vincent to meet the guests.
Timothy walked out of the banquet hall, got in his car, and coldly ordered, "Break Mindy's right leg and send her to Cecilia. If there's a next time, break the left leg."
Joe said yes.
These past few years, Timothy had barely survived several life-threatening treatments. He fought with death for time to live, all to find Elizabeth.
His methods had become more brutal than before.
Now whenever Joe thought about Elizabeth, he got a headache, not knowing whether Timothy would choose to let go or choose to take her back by force in the future.
Even Jake's moves were hard to guard against.
The banquet went on until after seven.
Although Robbie had blocked a lot of drinks for Elizabeth, she still drank quite a bit.
She went to the restroom and saw Freya clutching her chest and leaning against the wall.
"Mrs. Nightingale, are you okay?" Elizabeth quickly went over to support Freya.
Seeing Freya's face looked bad, Elizabeth quickly called for someone to come.
Elizabeth didn't know what illness Freya had.
Emma came looking for Freya and happened to see Elizabeth supporting her. Emma's expression changed as she hurried over, pushed Elizabeth aside, and reached out to support Freya.
"Godmother, is it a heart attack?"
Elizabeth was suddenly pushed away and stumbled a few steps, but fortunately she steadied herself in time.
Right now she wasn't going to worry about Emma pushing her - Freya couldn't have an incident at this banquet.
Emma helped Freya sit down and quickly took out the backup pills the doctor had prescribed from her bag for Freya to take.
As Emma was about to make a call, Elizabeth spoke up. "I already called for someone."
Just as she finished speaking, Robbie arrived with a doctor.
For tonight's banquet, the Sherman family had been careful enough to have a family doctor come to the hotel too - they didn't expect to actually need him.
"Heart attack. Did you call an ambulance?" the doctor asked after giving Freya emergency treatment.
"Yes, we did." Elizabeth said.
Before long, the ambulance arrived. As one of tonight's hosts, Elizabeth naturally needed to go along to check on the situation.
It was a matter of etiquette.
However, what Elizabeth didn't expect was that just as she was about to get in the ambulance, Emma stopped her and said, "Mrs. Sherman, you should take a private car."
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow speechlessly.
The ambulance drove away, and the driver brought the car over and stopped. Robbie opened the car door.
Elizabeth got in the car.
She sent a message to Calliope and the others - she'd have to trouble them to handle wrapping up the banquet.
[Elizabeth, what's the situation with Freya? Call us back]
[Okay]
At the hospital, after timely rescue, Freya was out of danger.
Russell, who Emma had notified to come, breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the doctor say she was no longer in danger.
Just then, a man in his thirties rushed over. "Mr. Nightingale, how is Mrs. Nightingale?"
"Herschel, godmother is out of danger." Emma replied.
Herschel Nightingale looked at Emma. "That's good."
Herschel was currently in charge of managing the Nightingale Group.
Originally Russell had been managing the Nightingale Group, but Russell had been busy accompanying Freya abroad for treatment these past few years, so he could only let the well-educated Herschel manage the Nightingale Group.
When Elizabeth was studying on the island, she had also looked at information about the current managers of major companies in Border Ridge City.
Elizabeth recognized Herschel, who was now managing the Nightingale Group.
Seeing there was nothing more here, she prepared to leave first and come see Freya tomorrow.
She apologized to Russell. "Mr. Nightingale, hello. I'm from the Sherman family. I'm really sorry that Freya had an episode at the banquet."
Only then did Russell notice Elizabeth in her blue dress. He also knew he couldn't unreasonably blame others. "I should be the one apologizing."
The Sherman family had happily prepared the banquet, and Freya's sudden episode could easily put a damper on things.
Elizabeth said goodbye to Russell and Herschel and left the hospital.
Just after Elizabeth left, Russell wondered to himself.
Strange, why did Elizabeth seem familiar, like he'd seen her somewhere before?
