Chapter 177 Returning Home
Emma had originally wanted to chase after her to confirm whether it was really Elizabeth.
But when Emma saw that Freya had already come out, she temporarily gave up the idea of going after her.
Freya said with a smile, "I told you not to come pick me up. Where are Jane and Tommy?"
"The kids are waiting for you in the car, godmother. I haven't seen you in months."
Freya really liked Emma and had made Emma her goddaughter two years ago.
"You always know what to say. I bought gifts for the kids."
"What about my gift? Why do only the kids get one?" Emma said, pretending to be jealous.
"Don't worry, there's one for you too."
Freya and Emma walked out of the airport chatting and laughing.
Five years ago, Freya and Russell had talked to Manuel. Emma couldn't bear to be apart from Tommy and Jane. Although she couldn't live at The Robinson Mansion, she could still visit to see Tommy and Jane.
"Grandma, I missed you so much!" Jane, wearing a dress, reached out for a hug. Emma lifted her down from the car, and she looked up and called out.
Freya loved children, and she truly adored Tommy and Jane. "I missed Jane too."
Freya wanted to bend down and pick up Jane, but Emma quickly stopped her. "Godmother, Jane is really heavy now."
"Jane can't let grandma carry her, grandma will get tired." Jane sweetly coaxed Freya.
Tommy, wearing a little vest, was also lifted down from the car by Emma and greeted them.
Tommy wasn't as sweet-talking as Jane.
Freya smiled and touched Tommy's hair. "Get in the car, let's go home. I brought you guys some really great gifts."
Emma had been able to live so well these past few years because she had Freya's protection.
The Nightingale family were businesspeople, but many people in Freya's family, the Stewart family, were government officials, and the Robinson family had to be wary of them.
The car drove into The Sherman Mansion.
Elizabeth had been staying on that island, almost completely cut off from the world. Seeing the modern buildings along the way made her feel a bit dazed.
The Sherman Mansion covered a very large area.
Sitting in the car, Elizabeth looked out the window. Many people were planting things. She asked curiously, "Eugene, what are they planting?"
Eugene respectfully explained, "The land at The Sherman Mansion is very fertile. Mr. Sherman and Mrs. Sherman arrange to plant various crops all year round. The field on the right is being planted with strawberries."
"On the left, they're planting vegetables, like bok choy and other vegetables."
"Basically all the land in the estate is planned for planting various crops."
Elizabeth had carefully looked into The Sherman Group's businesses, and there were no agricultural products. She was puzzled. "Are they for selling?"
Eugene smiled. "Part of it is directly given to people in need, like nursing homes and orphanages. The money from selling another part is donated to poor mountain areas."
Elizabeth was a bit surprised. She didn't know if it was for reputation or simply to do good deeds.
The car stopped at a villa.
The driver got out and opened the door. As soon as Elizabeth got out, she saw a couple standing at the entrance.
Elizabeth had seen photos of Jake's parents and recognized these two as Jake's parents, Vincent Sherman and Calliope Bishop.
Calliope walked over with a smile, excited, and held Elizabeth's hand. "Elizabeth, you must be tired from the journey."
Elizabeth had actually been mentally prepared that she might not be welcomed when coming to the Sherman family, but she didn't expect Calliope to be so warm.
Vincent's expression was also gentle. His eyes were similar to Jake's. "That brat told us your name is Elizabeth Penrose. Can we call you Elizabeth?"
Elizabeth smiled and nodded. "Yes, Mr. Sherman, Mrs. Sherman, hello."
"Good, good, good. Come on, I'll take you to your room. Get some rest first. Whatever needs to be discussed, we can talk after you've rested." Calliope was now in a completely energized state.
Her son Jake had always been thinking about Annie.
She had been desperate, thinking that Jake would never marry in this lifetime and she would never have grandchildren. But now Jake had a wife—how far could grandchildren be?
"This is Jake's room."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sherman."
Elizabeth couldn't bring herself to call them mom and dad just yet.
Calliope didn't mind Elizabeth's way of addressing her. Calliope asked Elizabeth what she liked to eat, planning to have the kitchen prepare it for dinner.
"I'm not picky, anything is fine."
"Okay, rest for now. We'll come get you when it's time to eat."
Calliope closed the door and left with a smile.
Elizabeth wasn't in the mood to look around the room.
Elizabeth took out her phone and called Jake. When he answered, she said, "I've arrived at The Sherman Mansion."
"Tomorrow The Sherman Group will arrange a press conference."
"I understand."
"You're basically parachuting into The Sherman Group. The shareholders might give you a hard time."
"Okay."
Just as Elizabeth was about to hang up, Jake mentioned Timothy. "You know that Timothy has been sending a lot of people everywhere to look for you all these years, right?"
Jake had specifically arranged for Elizabeth to stay on that isolated island at sea to prevent Timothy from finding her.
"You just got off the plane. He should have received the news too. Elizabeth, if you want Seraphina to grow up safe and sound, don't try anything."
Jake smiled, then gently called out to Seraphina, who was dancing on her tiptoes, "Seraphina."
Jake deliberately called her for Elizabeth to hear.
It was also a warning for Elizabeth to behave.
Seraphina didn't know why Jake suddenly called her. She stopped dancing and ran over. "Jake, why did you call me?"
Elizabeth heard Seraphina's soft voice on the other end of the phone, and her originally cool eyes softened.
Elizabeth said to Jake, "You don't need to keep warning me. I know what to do."
She hung up.
Jake looked at the disconnected call and raised his eyebrows. He touched Seraphina's head. "What should we eat tonight?"
Seraphina's eyes widened. When it came to food, this little girl's eyes lit up. "Yesterday we ate rice, today let's eat burgers and fries!"
Jake fell silent.
Jake touched his chin thoughtfully. "Let's keep eating rice."
Seraphina climbed onto Jake's lap with her hands and feet, sat down, and held Jake's face with both hands. "Eating burgers and fries makes me happy."
Eating rice didn't make Seraphina happy.
Jake took the little hands off his face and smiled. "Okay, we'll listen to Seraphina today."
"Our people spotted a woman who looked like Ms. Penrose at the Border Ridge City airport. They took photos."
Joe handed his phone to Timothy.
Timothy looked at the photo and immediately recognized it was Elizabeth, who had disappeared for five years. Suppressing his excitement, he asked in a deep voice, "Where is she now?"
Joe respectfully replied, "The Sherman family's Eugene personally went to the airport to pick up Ms. Penrose. Their car drove into The Sherman Mansion."
This situation seemed a bit tricky.
Elizabeth got off the plane, and the Sherman family's butler Eugene personally picked her up and took her to The Sherman Mansion—that was the strange part.
Joe had a vague bad feeling in his heart.
This didn't bode well.
"Get the car ready. We're going to The Sherman Mansion."
"Yes."
Elizabeth had just finished showering when a servant came upstairs to get her. "Mrs. Elizabeth Sherman, Mrs. Calliope Sherman asked me to come up and tell you that Mr. Robinson from the Robinson family is looking for you outside the main gate of The Sherman Mansion."
Elizabeth didn't stop drying her hair. Her hair had grown long and was permed into big waves.
She looked down. "I won't see him. Tell him we're not close."
The servant said yes.
Outside the main gate of The Sherman Mansion, a black car was parked.
Timothy sat in the car, looking at the closed gate, silently waiting for Elizabeth.
His fingers unconsciously tapped his knee.
He was very nervous.
The scene of her being taken up the helicopter ladder by Jake was still vivid in his mind.
The security guard in charge of the gate received an internal call. After hanging up, he told Joe, "Mrs. Sherman said she won't see him. They're not close."
Joe was shocked by what the security guard just called her. His heart sank. The security guard called her Elizabeth?
Elizabeth married Jake?
This...
Joe smiled and asked, "What Mrs. Sherman? Is it Ms. Penrose?"
The security guard nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Sherman just returned to the country today."
Joe didn't know what to say anymore. What was all this!
Jake would do anything to get revenge on the Robinson family.
Joe looked toward the black car. He steeled himself and walked to the car door.
His eyes met Timothy's.
Joe paused. "Ms. Penrose said she won't see you. You're not close."
"Is there more?" Timothy asked hoarsely. His hand gripped his phone so hard that the veins on the back of his hand were clearly visible.
"The security guard referred to Ms. Penrose as Mrs. Sherman." Joe said slowly.
Timothy looked coldly at Joe. "What did you say?"
Joe steeled himself and repeated what he just said.
"Ms. Penrose is now Mrs. Sherman."
Joe and Timothy instantly fell silent.
Timothy looked deeply at The Sherman Mansion's sign, his eyes profound, his tone flat. "Let's go. Find a way to gather more information. Check if they registered their marriage domestically."
If Elizabeth and Jake didn't get married domestically, they could have done it abroad.
Joe didn't mention this, but Timothy knew it too.
