Chapter 265 To Solstice
"Chairwoman Penrose, the chairman of the Nightingale Group is downstairs. He wants to see you."
Elizabeth was puzzled for a moment. What did Herschel want from her?
"Please show him up."
Robbie acknowledged and went downstairs to escort Herschel up.
Shortly after, Herschel walked into Elizabeth's office.
Elizabeth glanced up at Herschel, her manner cold. "Mr. Nightingale, please have a seat."
Herschel walked over to the sofa and sat down. He didn't beat around the bush and got straight to the point. "Elizabeth, last night in the middle of the night, your mother was rushed to the emergency room."
Elizabeth calmly typed a sentence on her keyboard.
Hearing Herschel's words, she had a pretty good idea why he came to see her today.
She leaned back casually in her chair. "I'm not a doctor. Why are you telling me this?"
Herschel looked at Elizabeth with displeasure. "Don't you think you're being too cold-hearted? All these years, Freya and the others have spent enormous resources trying to find you. They never gave up on you, and now Freya's in the emergency room and has been diagnosed with kidney problems."
Elizabeth remained calm, her gaze cold and firm. "Mr. Herschel Nightingale, I've already said I have no connection with my parents. Mrs. Freya Nightingale going to the emergency room is her own health issue and has nothing to do with me."
Elizabeth's words could be described as quite cruel.
Herschel's expression instantly became even more unpleasant. He said through gritted teeth, "Elizabeth, whether you acknowledge it or not, you still have the Nightingale family's blood running through your veins. Freya and the others aren't forcing you to do anything. If Freya and the others are sick and hospitalized, you should at least go take a look."
Elizabeth's expression remained indifferent, completely emotionless.
Herschel took a deep breath. "You really won't even go take one look?"
Elizabeth said coldly, "No."
Herschel hadn't expected Elizabeth to be so heartless after hearing that her mother Freya had been rushed to the emergency room.
He knew he couldn't persuade Elizabeth. With a trace of anger, he left the office.
Elizabeth watched Herschel's departing figure, rubbed her temples, and continued with her work.
On the day they were leaving for Solstice, the weather in Border Ridge City wasn't great—it was overcast, indicating rain was coming.
After a long twenty-hour flight, Elizabeth and her party safely arrived at Solstice's airport.
The weather in Solstice today was beautiful.
Sunny and bright, with blue skies and white clouds.
Jacob pushed the luggage cart beside Elizabeth, and bodyguards escorted them to the hotel.
"Ms. Penrose, would you like to visit Solstice's famous West District tonight?" Jacob had clearly noticed that since the plane landed in Solstice, Elizabeth's mood seemed off, so he made this suggestion.
The summit wasn't until tomorrow, so visiting the West District tonight wouldn't affect anything.
Elizabeth looked at the azure sky outside the window and nodded. "You arrange it."
Jacob smiled, put away the luggage, and left the room. He was staying in the suite next door.
At six in the evening, Elizabeth and Jacob went to the West District.
There were quite a few tourists here. Elizabeth bought two cute little gifts that Seraphina would like.
Elizabeth was holding the gifts when she turned around and saw Timothy standing across the street.
Timothy was holding a doll, which clashed with his distant demeanor.
He looked up, and their eyes met. The two of them simultaneously looked away with perfect understanding.
Elizabeth hadn't expected to run into Timothy on her first day in Solstice.
A ripple of emotion stirred in her heart, but she forced herself to stay calm.
"Ms. Penrose, the famous Opal Moon restaurant is just ahead. Is it okay to have dinner there?" Jacob said, reaching out to block a stranger who almost bumped into Elizabeth.
"Sure, let's go." Elizabeth walked quickly forward, temporarily putting aside the unexpected encounter.
Timothy watched Elizabeth's departing figure, lowered his eyes to hide the deep longing in them, and bent down to get into his car.
He had decided on a whim to come to the West District and hadn't expected to run into Elizabeth.
The Opal Moon restaurant's decor had a distinctive colorful style.
Very characteristic.
Elizabeth and Jacob found a seat by the window and ordered local specialties.
While enjoying the food, Elizabeth overheard the conversation at the next table discussing the ElizaTimo Group.
She heard the next table talking about the ElizaTimo Group.
Delilah McCoy lowered her voice and said quietly, "I really don't understand. Nothing like this has ever happened at the ElizaTimo Group. You're so capable, yet they transferred you from the chairman's office to the testing department."
"Do you know what people are saying about you? They say you were transferred because you tried to seduce the chairman."
"It's just unbelievable." Sarah laughed and said, "It's fine. Besides, the testing department is pretty good—less pressure."
She raised her eyebrows and continued, "Anyway, the salary's the same. I can go anywhere, right?"
Delilah sighed helplessly. "Only you can be so open-minded about it. Elizabeth, have you ever met our mysterious boss?"
Sarah nodded. "Yes, I have."
"What does he look like?" Delilah asked curiously.
Sarah thought of Timothy's face and said with certainty, "He's pretty good-looking. Hurry up and eat, stop asking questions."
After dinner.
Elizabeth and Jacob left the restaurant and went straight back to the hotel.
Meanwhile, outside the Opal Moon restaurant, Sarah was standing there waiting for her friend Delilah to bring the car around.
She looked down and saw a ring on the ground, and bent down to pick it up.
The ring looked very delicate. She examined it carefully—it seemed quite valuable.
Sarah looked around, not knowing who had dropped the ring. If it was a valuable ring, she planned to turn it in to the police.
Delilah drove up and stopped the car. She looked at Sarah, who was still standing there stupidly. "Elizabeth, get in the car. What are you staring at a ring for?"
Sarah put the ring in her pocket and walked around the car to get in the passenger seat.
Delilah drove while asking curiously, "Where did the ring come from? Don't tell me some guy gave it to you?"
Sarah rolled her eyes at Delilah and laughed. "Don't talk nonsense. What guy?"
At the same time, back at the hotel, Elizabeth had finished her shower. As she walked out of the bathroom, she suddenly stopped.
Timothy, whom she'd seen in the West District today, flashed through her mind.
The doll he was holding was probably bought for Seraphina.
Elizabeth walked to the sofa and reached for her small purse.
She opened it and took out her phone first, then when she went to look for the ring, she found it was gone.
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat. She searched carefully again but couldn't find it.
The ring must have been dropped somewhere in the West District. It would probably be very hard to get it back.
Elizabeth closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes, quickly changed clothes, and left the room.
She returned to the West District and retraced today's route.
She walked along, looking at the ground as she searched.
Until she had completed today's entire route.
She still hadn't seen any sign of the wedding ring.
The brilliant lights shone on the ground. Elizabeth pressed her lips together. Forget it—there was no use keeping the ring anyway.
