Chapter 151: What Is the Relationship Between Their Three Families?

Chapter 151: What Is the Relationship Between Their Three Families?

"Everyone told me to think carefully, after all, there's been a lot of news about Valentin." She smiled, looking down as she smoked, her face blank.

"That's not what I meant. I just think he's too old. With your qualifications, you won't have trouble finding a man from a wealthy family." Charlotte felt uncomfortable. As a friend, she should be happy about the marriage, but she just couldn't feel happy.

Ophelia exhaled smoke and forced a smile. "You know what? I personally sent my parents to prison."

Charlotte nodded. "The reports mentioned it."

Ophelia had taken her parents to court on charges of killing their biological daughter and forcing her into prostitution. Because of the serious crimes, they were sentenced to life imprisonment. This case caused a sensation three years ago.

"Those charges were false. I framed them. I just couldn't stand their pressure and crazy behavior anymore. It was either they died or I died. I was really depressed during that time. Valentin was there for me every day. Others see him as disgusting, perverted, even evil, but he's really good to me. People think I'm marrying him to inherit his fortune as a widow later, but I just want a family. I desperately need warmth." She opened the window and threw out the cigarette butt.

Charlotte suddenly felt she was a stranger. What had this woman been through to become so world-weary? Her eyes lacked the enthusiasm and confidence of her peers. It was the dull look only old people have, filled with guilt, pain, and despair.

She suddenly felt so unfamiliar. Was this the Ophelia she used to know?

She wasn't like this before.

"Since you've decided, I wish you well."

After a while, she came back to herself. "Thanks."

Charlotte thought for a moment before saying, "I hope you follow your heart. As long as you're happy, don't worry about what others think. After all, you're living for yourself."

"I know." She laughed. "You've changed a lot over the years. When I first saw you on TV, I was really shocked. I never thought you'd enter the entertainment industry and do so well. I underestimated you."

"I never thought I'd enter this industry either. We can never predict the future. Just live in the moment and be happy."

"You still understand me."

On the way back from the Blue Vanguard Group, Charlotte kept spacing out. Tomorrow was the anniversary of her family's death, and she felt desolate inside.

Brian was also thinking about this. Now that the Ward family had descendants, he was wondering whether to continue visiting their graves. No matter what he did now, he couldn't make up for the guilt of that fire he set to the Ward family.

"The Ward family still has Charlotte and Bruce. If we run into them tomorrow, everyone will feel uncomfortable. Let's go another time!" Henry spoke up. This was a good solution.

"Mr. Brian Wilson, Ms. Harris and Mr. Howard are here." Clio suddenly appeared at the study door.

"Who's here?" Brian asked.

Clio repeated, "Ms. Harris and Mr. Howard are here. They'll be in the living room soon."

"What are they doing here?" Henry frowned.

Brian hesitated, then waved his hand. "Let's go down."

"Dad, do you think they're here to cause trouble?"

Henry glared at him. "Would they bring just two people to cause trouble? I guess they're also here about tomorrow's memorial."

Charlotte and Bruce were led into the living room by Bob. Brian and Henry were already waiting inside. After greeting them, they sat down.

"Is there something you need?" Brian asked. After five years, he was finally seeing these two children again. They had both changed a lot.

"Bruce and I came today to discuss the Ward family estate in Harmony City. After what happened to the Ward family, the house was burned beyond recognition, and you've been holding the property deed. Today Bruce and I want to get the deed back. What are your conditions?" Charlotte spoke calmly, her face gentle but unable to hide the distance and unfamiliarity.

"The property deed?" The two exchanged glances.

Brian thought for a while before answering, "The deed isn't with me."

Bruce frowned and said coldly, "Then where is it? Don't tell me the land already belongs to the state."

"Of course not." Henry thought for a long time before speaking. "The deed was taken by the Rogers family."

The Rogers family?

Harold?

"The Rogers family from Evergreen State?" Charlotte couldn't help asking.

Henry nodded but said nothing more.

"We understand. We'll be going now. Goodbye." Charlotte stood up. From the moment she met Harold, she knew things weren't just about the feud with Liam. Now it seemed really complicated.

"Since you're here, why don't you siblings stay for dinner? It's almost five o'clock." Brian looked down at the time. It was about dinner time.

Bruce gave a cold laugh and refused. "No need. We'll be going."

"Charlotte, don't forget your promise." Henry spoke urgently.

Charlotte turned to look at him, a cold smile on her lips. "Don't worry, we're just taking back the Ward family estate. We won't investigate the past. We keep our word."

Henry breathed a sigh of relief. "I hope so."

At that moment, they heard something drop at the door. Anna stood there looking at them in disbelief, her mouth wide open in surprise. "You two are siblings?"

"We became siblings outside the family. Is that a problem?" Charlotte reacted quickly. The fewer people who knew about this, the better.

"Anna, what are you doing here?" Henry looked at her with a dark expression.

Anna bent down to pick up the documents from the floor and walked in. "I had something to ask Grandpa about, so I came."

Charlotte and Bruce left the Wilson Villa with doubts. Right at the gate, they coincidentally ran into Alexander. Coming home at this hour really wasn't his style.

Of course, they didn't know Alexander had rushed back after receiving Bob's call. Although Bob didn't know what was happening, Alexander had a vague idea it was about tomorrow's grave visit.

"Hello, Mr. Wilson." Bruce said and grabbed Charlotte's hand, walking toward the gate.

Alexander coldly scanned their backs and strode inside. What were those two doing here?

"I have an added commercial performance, so I can't go to Evergreen State. Plus it's getting dark. Let's investigate first before deciding!" Bruce drove with an ugly expression.

Charlotte could only nod helplessly. "Okay, I'll go back and prepare. Don't worry about the deed."

"What's our connection with the Rogers family? Do you remember anything?" Bruce asked curiously.

Charlotte shook her head. "I have no memory of it. I heard the Rogers family is very mysterious. Even how many members they have isn't clear to outsiders. I'll have someone investigate and see if there are any clues."

"Don't dig too deep. These people are beyond what we can handle. Just enough."

Charlotte agreed. "I know."

She wondered why the Ward family's property deed would be with the Rogers family. What was the relationship between the Ward family and the Rogers family? What was the relationship between Liam, Harold, and Alexander? And who was this Freya person?

But right now, she only cared about the deed. She and Bruce had discussed it—they had to get back the Ward family estate. But they didn't expect this would involve the Rogers family.

If the deed was with the Rogers family, Harold must know. He was only twenty-eight now. When the Ward family incident happened, he was only seven. The deed being with the Rogers family meant the two families had contact. This meant she might have met people from the Rogers family, but why couldn't she remember anything?

She shook her head. Never mind, she'd deal with future matters later.

After dropping Bruce off at the Wilson Group, Charlotte headed home. Gradually, she noticed something wrong. Whose Lamborghini was that behind her? Why was it following her?

She was being followed!

Charlotte suddenly sped up to shake off the car, but it stayed close behind her. Then her phone rang.

"What?" Her voice was neither cold nor warm.

"Why are you driving so fast? Looking to die?" A cold voice came from the other end.

Charlotte glanced at the rearview mirror. "That car behind me is yours?"

"Damn it, a grown man driving such a flashy red car. Can't stand it." She muttered.

"Say that again!"

Charlotte slowed down, and when the distance between the cars was about right, she rolled down her window. Then she saw Alexander also looking at her coldly—no, glaring.

"Mr. Wilson, what do you want, chasing my car late at night?" Charlotte's expression was unpleasant.

"I have something to ask you." His tone remained icy.

"Business or personal?" Whatever it was could be said on the phone. Was it necessary to force her into a car chase late at night? Jerk.

"Pull over up ahead." He didn't answer but commanded her instead.

Charlotte rolled her eyes and spoke just as coldly. "If it's work-related, we can discuss it at the company. I don't think we have any personal matters. Hanging up."

Just as she was about to remove her Bluetooth earpiece, another cold sentence came from the other end. "If you dare not stop, I won't let you off!"

"Wilson Group CEO shamelessly harasses female artist partner—you'll be famous!" Charlotte's mouth twitched. Did he think he was a king that everyone had to obey?

Unexpectedly, another cold sentence came from the other end. "Wouldn't 'sexual harassment' be even better?"

Charlotte slammed on the brakes and stopped. That damn jerk Alexander was definitely mentally ill!

"What?" Charlotte glared at him coldly.

Alexander rolled down his window again and coldly beckoned with his finger. "Come here."

Looking at his arrogant, pretentious expression, Charlotte got really angry. She floored the gas pedal and shot forward. "Bye." She ruthlessly pulled off the earpiece and threw it on the seat. That jerk.

Alexander's expression, already unpleasant, became even worse. Charlotte was getting more and more arrogant. He chased after her at top speed. For a moment, a car race unfolded on the wide suburban road with few vehicles.
