Chapter 128
Seeing that Susan was siding with Frederick, Alexandra had no choice but to keep quiet.
But Frederick felt that wasn't enough. He gently held her hand and said softly, "You should get some rest tonight. I'll come pick you up in the morning."
"No need, I can get to the office on my own," Alexandra replied. She didn't want to trouble Frederick, and more importantly, she hadn't had a meal at home for several days due to various reasons. Especially dinner, so she thought she could at least have breakfast at home. But if Frederick came to pick her up, time would be tight.
"I'd rather come pick you up," Frederick said, looking at her with deep affection. "That way, we can have breakfast together."
"Having three meals a day with you leaves me no time to spend with Mom and Dad!" Alexandra was exasperated. Susan, who had been listening to their conversation, immediately waved her hand.
"It's okay, Alexandra. You two should eat together! Your dad and I don't need you to keep us company!" Susan said.
Alexandra closed her eyes in frustration, feeling outnumbered.
"Mrs. Windsor said so, so why not have breakfast with me?" Frederick said. To him, being with Alexandra was a joy, and he wouldn't easily give up the chance.
"But I want to have breakfast with my parents at home," Alexandra insisted this time.
Frederick was momentarily speechless, and the atmosphere between them became awkward. Susan, standing between them, could feel the invisible tension.
She quickly intervened, "How about this, Frederick? Why don't you come over for breakfast in the morning?"
"Really? Mrs. Windsor?" Frederick looked at Susan as if he had found a lifeline.
"Of course! It's just an extra set of dishes!" Susan was more than happy for Frederick to come over for breakfast every day. After all, they would be family in the future, and spending more time together was a good thing.
"Mom!" Alexandra's expression changed slightly. "That's too much trouble!"
"It's no trouble at all," Frederick said earnestly, holding her hand. "I'm coming to pick you up for work every day anyway. Having breakfast here and getting to know your family better makes me very happy."
"I never asked you to pick me up every day," Alexandra said helplessly. "I can drive myself to the office."
"But I want to pick you up!" Frederick insisted. "Even if it's just a little more time with you, it makes me very happy."
Alexandra was at a loss for words. If it were just the two of them, it might be different. But now, in front of Susan and Andrew, he was shamelessly saying whatever he wanted.
Susan, listening to their conversation, couldn't help but blush, her smile becoming more motherly.
At that moment, Celeste returned from outside. Seeing Frederick there, she was initially surprised but quickly put on a smile. "I didn't expect my brother-in-law to be here!"
Everyone was taken aback by the term "brother-in-law." Just a few hours ago, Celeste had been heartbroken over Frederick, chasing after him with ulterior motives. How had she suddenly changed her tune and called him brother-in-law?
"Frederick came to drop Alexandra off, and we were just chatting," Susan explained, pleased with Celeste's term for Frederick. She quickly took Celeste's hand. "Why are you back so late? Have you had dinner?"
Celeste smiled. "Yeah, I have."
She then looked at Alexandra. "Sis, have you eaten? Did you eat with Frederick?"
"Yeah," Alexandra nodded out of politeness, though she didn't really want to engage with Celeste.
"I'm so envious. Sis has such a thoughtful guy by her side," Celeste said with a hint of envy in her eyes, but she quickly returned to normal and looked at Susan. "Mom and Dad will find someone like Frederick for me too, right?"
Susan felt a pang of sadness. The Windsor family's marriage arrangement with Frederick had been made when Alexandra was away, and everyone had assumed it was for Celeste. But now that Alexandra was back, everything had changed, including Celeste's status.
"Don't worry, Celeste. Dad and I will find someone good for you," Susan reassured her.
"Thanks, Mom," Celeste said as Lila brought over freshly brewed coffee. "Ms. Celeste Windsor, have some coffee."
Celeste, having just returned and talked for a while without even a sip of water, naturally needed to wet her throat. She reached out to take the coffee, but Lila stumbled, spilling the coffee all over Celeste's chest.
The warm coffee soaked through Celeste's low-cut silk dress, revealing her enticing cleavage.
Lila immediately bowed and apologized, "I'm so sorry, Ms. Celeste Windsor! I didn't hold it steady. Are you okay?"
Susan quickly came over with a handkerchief to help Celeste wipe off the coffee, scolding Lila, "You're usually so careful. What happened today?"
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Windsor! It's my fault!" Lila apologized.
Celeste grabbed Susan's hand. "Mom, I'm fine. Don't blame Lila. It wasn't intentional."
"You're too kind. Are you sure you're not burned?" Susan asked with concern.
Celeste shook her head. "No, I'm not burned. Just my dress is wet."
As she spoke, Celeste glanced at Frederick, but he seemed only to have eyes for Alexandra. The commotion had caught Alexandra's attention, but Frederick didn't even glance in their direction.
Celeste bit her lip. "Mom, my dress is wet. I need to go change."
She emphasized the wet dress, but Frederick remained indifferent. Susan nodded. "Yes, go change quickly. You don't want to catch a cold."
Celeste didn't rush upstairs but walked over to Frederick. She smiled at him. "Sorry, Frederick, for the sudden incident. I have to excuse myself."
