Chapter 129
Celeste said she had to excuse herself, but her feet seemed glued to the spot, not moving an inch after she spoke.
Frederick didn't respond, not even lifting his head to look at Celeste as she spoke.
The atmosphere instantly became awkward, everyone holding their breath, unsure of what they were waiting for.
Time ticked by, and Frederick still didn't respond, making Celeste feel even more uncomfortable.
Her hands clenched involuntarily, and even the smile on her face became stiff.
Fortunately, Susan stepped in to break the tension. "Celeste, you should go change. Your brother-in-law won't mind!"
Celeste knew that even if she wanted to stay, Frederick wouldn't spare her a glance. Staying would only make her lose more dignity.
With that thought, Celeste said, "Alright, Alexandra, I'll head upstairs now."
"Okay."
Though Celeste turned to leave, she kept looking back, clearly reluctant to go.
Susan took the opportunity to stand next to Alexandra, her eyes catching the light reflecting off a new bracelet on Alexandra's wrist.
Susan quickly lifted Alexandra's hand to examine the bracelet closely. "I've never seen you wear this before. It doesn't look like something from Aurelius Atelier!"
"It was a gift from Frederick," Alexandra replied honestly, and Celeste, who hadn't yet reached the stairs, heard it clearly.
Celeste's heart skipped a beat, and her face showed obvious anger.
Susan, on the other hand, was delighted. "Oh, that's why you're wearing it!"
"Mom and Dad bought you so many pieces of jewelry, but you never wore them, saying you didn't like them. It seems Frederick's gifts are different!"
"It's not like that, Mom," Alexandra quickly explained. "It's just..."
"It's just that I wanted her to wear it," Frederick interjected, holding Alexandra's hand and finishing her sentence. "She doesn't like wearing jewelry, and you shouldn't force her."
"But this bracelet, I designed it myself, putting a lot of effort into it. So I hoped she would wear it."
"Maybe she wears it because she doesn't want to hurt my feelings, as a sign of respect."
"You designed it yourself?" Susan was astonished. "That must have taken a lot of effort!"
She lifted Alexandra's wrist again, admiring the bracelet. "It's beautiful! Frederick, I didn't know you had this talent!"
"It's not really a talent. When you're giving a gift to the woman you love, you naturally put in the effort."
Frederick said these sweet words in a very calm tone, his face not showing any embarrassment.
But Alexandra's face turned red, and she bit her lip, unsure how to respond.
"Oh, Frederick, I didn't know you were so thoughtful towards Alexandra!"
Susan couldn't stop smiling, then she held Alexandra's hand and said, "Frederick is so attentive to you, taking care of everything. It's not easy!"
"Why do I feel like you're a bit cold towards him?"
Susan, with her love for novels and TV dramas, had read and watched countless love stories and women's growth stories. She could sense from Frederick and Alexandra's interactions that Frederick was more proactive, while Alexandra seemed a bit resistant.
This wasn't a good sign, and Susan was naturally worried.
A man like Frederick could have any woman he wanted. Why would he insist on Alexandra?
If Alexandra continued like this, Frederick might get tired of it, and if he lost interest, it would be a disaster!
So Susan felt she needed to teach Alexandra to appreciate Frederick's kindness.
With this in mind, Susan asked, "Alexandra, have you thanked Frederick for his gift?"
"Mrs. Windsor, it's my pleasure. She doesn't need to thank me."
Frederick was quick to defend Alexandra, but Susan was persistent. "In a relationship, many things are mutual. It can't always be him giving and you not responding."
This made Alexandra, who had been calm, show some emotion.
"These days, we've all seen how good Frederick is to you!"
Susan continued, looking at Alexandra. "Silly girl, you need to cherish such a good man! You should thank him!"
Alexandra realized that both Harris and Frederick had always been very attentive to her. They constantly gave her gifts and showed her care.
She had always been indifferent to these gestures and had never truly thanked them.
Even though she didn't enjoy the gifts, she couldn't just take their kindness for granted without any response.
"I..." Alexandra hesitated for a long time, trying to respond, but Frederick suddenly intertwined his fingers with hers, looking at Susan with determination.
"Mrs. Windsor, my kindness to Alexandra is voluntary. I don't expect anything in return."
He then looked at Alexandra with intense affection.
"As long as I can see her every day and spend more time with her, that's enough for me."
Susan felt like she was witnessing a scene from one of her novels come to life, her eyes becoming more gentle.
She clasped her hands to her face, looking lovestruck.
"Oh, Frederick, you're so wonderful! Alexandra, you're lucky to have a man like Frederick!"
Alexandra felt overwhelmed by Frederick's intense gaze and lowered her head, trying to stay calm.
Meanwhile, Celeste, who had heard everything from the stairs, was fuming.
Lila, standing beside Celeste, tried to calm her. "Ms. Celeste Windsor, let's go change your clothes."
Celeste pressed her lips together, not saying a word, and stormed upstairs, with Lila following closely behind.
Back in her room, Celeste was still seething with anger.
Lila quickly tried to console her. "Ms. Celeste Windsor, now is not the time to be angry. While Mr. Johnson is still here, why don't you pick a sexy, alluring outfit and go downstairs to catch his eye?"
"Men can't resist temptation!"
