Chapter 127

She really thought Saul was some big shot, but now it seems he's just average!

Alexandra gently pushed open the door. The once bustling hallway was now completely empty.

To be cautious, she didn't take the elevator. Instead, she slipped into the fire escape and climbed up to the first floor.

As she exited the lobby, the receptionist immediately stood up.

Alexandra walked straight up to her, exuding an intimidating aura that startled the receptionist.

"Miss Smith."

Since Saul and his crew dared to pull such stunts, they must have connections everywhere.

Chances are, this receptionist is one of their people too.

During her brief time upstairs, Alexandra had already checked the receptionist's schedule.

Sure enough, all the night shifts were covered by this one girl. When she needed a break, Saul would rather have someone random fill in than use another receptionist.

This clearly indicated that the receptionist was Anna's person.

"Do you still want to work here?"

Alexandra's voice was ghostly, sending shivers down the receptionist's spine.

Tears welled up in the receptionist's eyes. "Miss Smith, I don't know what I did wrong to make you want to fire me!"

"You didn't do anything wrong, but who is your boss, me or Ms. Anna?"

Alexandra looked around, her voice even colder.

Anna might not seem very smart, but to reach the position of vice president, she must have some skills and cunning.

So, the people she picked shouldn't be complete idiots.

The receptionist seemed to understand, and tears started to fall. "Miss Smith, I was wrong! But I didn't do anything. I just... I just..."

"You just altered the daily attendance records, that's all," Alexandra finished for her. "You can continue working here, but if you ever do anything against the company's interests again, don't blame me for being harsh."

Alexandra's tone was sharp, making the receptionist tremble.

"You should know what happened to the former head of finance and the head chef. So, you should understand what choice to make."

Seeing Alexandra's piercing gaze, the receptionist's legs went weak, almost causing her to collapse.

She quickly steadied herself against the wall. "I understand, Miss Smith! Please don't fire me! I was wrong. I won't alter the attendance records again! Please give me another chance!"

Even as a receptionist, working at the Windsor Group came with exceptional benefits and a salary that was more than double that of other companies.

Being hired by the Windsor Group was a huge blessing, and naturally, no one wanted to lose such a job.

The receptionist looked young, probably just a college student.

"I'll come to see you again tomorrow."

With that, Alexandra turned and left. The receptionist realized she was drenched in sweat, her clothes soaked through.

As she exited the building, she saw Frederick waiting and immediately approached her. "What took you so long?"

She had only gone to retrieve a bracelet, yet it took almost an hour. Was that really reasonable?

"I had some things to handle, but it's all sorted now."

This was a Windsor Group matter, and Alexandra didn't want to involve Frederick.

Frederick stared at her intently and finally said, "No matter what it is, if you need my help, just ask."

"I don't need your help. I can handle it myself."

Alexandra understood Frederick's feelings but didn't see the need to involve him.

The Windsor Group had too many issues, and it wasn't something that could be fixed overnight.

Everything had to be dealt with gradually. Even though she had overwritten the previous surveillance footage, she had already saved the original clips as evidence.

These pieces of evidence were crucial to bringing them down.

By the time Frederick dropped Alexandra off at home, it was already late.

Susan and Andrew had been worried, but seeing Frederick personally escort her back, they couldn't stop smiling.

"Why did you have to come all this way? We've heard that you pick her up and drop her off every day, and even take her out for lunch and sometimes dinner. It's really too much trouble!"

Susan held Alexandra's hand, her words contradicting the joy in her heart.

The whole family hoped their relationship would grow, and spending more time together was the best way to achieve that.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Windsor. It's my pleasure." Frederick looked at Alexandra with deep affection. "Please don't say that. If she hears it and refuses to have lunch or dinner with me, I wouldn't know what to do!"

"Oh, my big mouth!" Susan quickly patted her lips and turned to Alexandra. "I was just saying, don't take my words as an excuse!"

Facing her mother, who was as fickle as a weather vane, Alexandra was exasperated. "I won't. Since you want to have meals with me every day, I can't refuse."

Frederick smiled happily. "Mrs. Windsor, you heard that, right? So, you don't need to prepare her dinner anymore. I'll pick her up for dinner every day!"

Susan's eyes lit up with joy, and she quickly nodded. "Alright, then it's settled!"

"Mom!" Alexandra hadn't expected Susan to agree so readily. She whispered, "I can't have every meal with him, can I?"

"Why not?" Susan was puzzled. "You two need to spend time together to build your relationship quickly!"

"You're engaged and about to get married. You need to develop your feelings before that!"

"But..." Alexandra didn't want to have every meal with Frederick. It was too much trouble and made her feel uneasy.

It wasn't that she didn't understand her feelings. Spending so much time together might actually make her fall for him, just as everyone hoped.

Whether that was a good or bad thing, she couldn't say.
