Chapter 126
"Ever since Miss Smith joined our company, our profits have been tanking!"
"Yeah, Saul, does Ms. Anna have any way to get rid of Miss Smith?"
Hearing this, Saul threw a punch, hitting the speaker square in the chest. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"Miss Smith was sent by headquarters. We don't know who she's connected to, but haven't you seen her methods these past few days?"
Everyone quickly nodded in agreement.
Saul sighed heavily. "If this keeps up, our little operation might have to shut down for good!"
"What are we going to do? Without the extra income, our salaries alone aren't enough to support our families!"
"Exactly, Saul, you need to come up with something!"
"Even Ms. Anna is at her wit's end. What can I do?" Saul rolled his eyes. "We just dealt with the head chef, and Ms. Anna got nowhere with Miss Smith. Now Miss Smith is about to inspect the production line and warehouse. If we don't straighten up, we're all going to be in big trouble!"
The group fell silent under Saul's reprimand, while he continued to sigh.
"You're right. Not only are you losing out, but Ms. Anna and I are also constantly worried and not making as much as before. It's really frustrating!"
"Actually, if we really want to continue, there might be a way."
One of the shadier characters suggested, "In life, who doesn't get sick or have accidents?"
Saul, being sharp, immediately understood the implication but couldn't help but curse, "What are you talking about? How could we do something like that?"
"Why not? Even if we don't kill her, if she gets sick, she won't be able to keep an eye on us!"
"Exactly, just make her too weak to interfere!"
Everyone started chiming in with their own ideas, creating a cacophony of suggestions.
Just then, Alexandra's phone rang. Fortunately, she had it in her hand and quickly silenced it.
But that brief sound was enough for Saul to catch.
"Everyone shut up! Did you hear something just now?"
Most of the group hadn't noticed.
"No, Saul, you must be hearing things."
"Yeah, it's just us talking!"
Despite their reassurances, Saul wasn't convinced.
He scanned the room, still feeling uneasy. "Stop talking and search the warehouse. There might really be someone hiding!"
"Impossible, the cameras didn't show anyone."
"Yeah, Saul, don't be so paranoid!"
"Maybe you should see a doctor tomorrow. You might be stressed out."
"Didn't you hear me? Start searching!" Saul's growing anger silenced their protests, and they reluctantly began searching again.
Alexandra held her breath, not daring to move.
The warehouse wasn't huge, but it would take a few minutes to search thoroughly.
Listening to the footsteps outside, Alexandra's heart pounded in her chest.
Luckily, they didn't think to check the small corner where she was hiding, so they missed her.
After several rounds of searching, the group grew impatient.
"Saul, stop making us run around. There's no one here!"
"Yeah, Saul, you must be sleep-deprived and imagining things."
Saul, feeling a bit disoriented by their comments, finally relented.
"Alright, maybe I was too paranoid. Let's go."
He let the others leave first, lingering to take one last look around the warehouse before closing the door.
Once the door was shut, Alexandra quickly texted Frederick: "I'll call you later, something urgent came up."
Though the door was closed, Alexandra could hear movement outside.
It was clear they hadn't left and were waiting to see if anyone would come out.
To be safe, Alexandra stayed hidden for another twenty minutes.
When the door opened again, the warehouse was still silent.
The group searched a few more times but found nothing.
"Saul, even if we made some money with you and Ms. Anna, you can't keep dragging us around like this!"
"Yeah, there's no one here. Are we ghost hunting now? Don't scare us!"
"Saul, we've been waiting outside for ages. If there was someone, they would have left by now. There's clearly no one here!"
Saul's face showed a hint of worry, but he had to admit they had a point.
"Thanks for your help today. Don't worry, Ms. Anna and I appreciate your loyalty. We'll make sure to remember you when good things come our way."
Hearing Saul's promise, their complaints lessened.
"Alright, Saul, it's getting late. Let's go."
"Okay."
Saul followed them out, taking one last look at the warehouse before closing the door.
Alexandra heard the beeping sound of a code being set. Saul was really cautious, adding an extra layer of security.
He was clearly worried someone might be hiding in the warehouse.
The added code was meant to trap anyone inside, as the door required either facial recognition or a password to open.
After the sounds faded, Alexandra emerged from her hiding spot.
She waited about ten minutes before approaching the door to check.
Saul had indeed added a code and erased all other access, including Anna's.
What was he planning?
His precautions might trap an ordinary person, but for Alexandra, it was a simple task.
She took out a wire and picked the lock, just as she had done when entering.
In a few seconds, the door was unlocked.
