The Siege

The Siege
Valerio shielded Valerie's body with his own as they ran out of the throne room and anywhere that they might be safe.

There were explosions happening all through the palace and soon, people began to shout on top of their lungs.

"SIEGE!"

"ARMIES!"

Such words caught Valerie's ear as she and Valerio came upon a balcony which was gladly still intact and what they saw, caused their eyes to go wide.

Flooding in from all directions, there were soldiers. Soldiers who were invading Escalara and when Valerie turned her head, her eyes widened when she realized that someone had thrown a canon on the dome above them.

"VAL!" She screamed as Valerio shielded her from the debris while the began to run once again.

Valerio tried to command the guards but his priority was getting Valerie to safety.

Everywhere they looked, their eyes caught fire.

There was another explosion and this time, they stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the temple of the Moon Goddess bursting into pieces.

"Come on, we have to get to Adrian." Valerie urged him and Valerio's eyes widened instantly when he realized that his mate's life was in danger.

That instantly caused the two of them to run faster, stopping only when another tremor shook the palace.

Their hearts were racing and their legs were crying out in pain bit neither of them stopped running.

The smell of smoke became too much for Valerie to be able to bear as she began to cough and Valerio stopped for a moment, holding her arms with concern. "Lia, are you okay? Do you want me to carry you?" He asked with concern and she shook her head, holding a candelabra in the corridor for support as she coughed.

"What is happening?" She asked looking around them with slight tears in her eyes because of the fumes.

Valerio shook his head, "I have no idea who the enemy is or how they got inside." He said hurriedly, "come on, we need to get out of here."

That was when a realization dawned upon Valerie and she froze in her spot.

"Valerie come on!" He urged, feeling sick with worry for his mate's life as he tried to reach into Adrian's mind to ensure if he was alright.

"Jenna is still in the infirmary!" Valerie gasped and Valerio's eyes widened realizing that his twin's life was in danger too.

"Come on, let's go, we can get to the infirmary from here." Valerio said beginning to drag her.

Valerie tugged on his arm and shook her head.

"Go to Adrian." She stated, "I'll save Jenna and we'll meet you at the tulip mansion. We don't have time to save them both together, this place could crumble at any moment."

Valerio instantly shook his head, "no, I'm not leaving you alone, Valerie!"

"We don't have time, Val, go!"

"What if something happens to you? Or your baby?" Valerio pointed out, "let's go, we can save them together."

And at that same instant, another explosion occured and this time, in the wing which contained their rooms, including Adrian's.

"You need to leave, Val!" Valerie urged, sobbing further. Valerio couldn't help but glance between her and the direction that Adrian was in.

"You promise me that you will save my sister and my future godchild?" He asked her in a stern voice.

Valerie smiled through her tears and nodded her head, "I promise."

And with that, they wrapped each other in a quick embrace as Valerio kissed the side of her head and Valerie kissed his cheek.

"Promise me that you will take Adrian away from here. Don't let him be caught again."

"I promise."

And with that, they pulled away and their hands which held onto each other so tightly, broke apart slowly as they rushed in opposite directions.

Valerie could only hope that both his best boys would be alive and well once she would get out of this palace.
