Chapter 76 Chapter 76: Kidnapped
"Selena, I beg you, just let me see you one more time. Even if I die, I’d be satisfied."
Balthazar lay down on the long sofa in the living room, his eyes heavy as exhaustion and longing carried him into sleep.
"Please, Your Grace, our supreme deity, do not risk wandering the mortal realm."
"We need you, the two princes need you, we can retrieve Queen Amaryllis and bring her back to the heavens for you."
"You are the supreme god, you don’t need to understand love. If you descend to the mortal realm, all your powers will disappear..."
...
Balthazar furrowed his brow and slowly opened his eyes. It was five o’clock in the morning. He sighed deeply, rubbing his face with his hands. All night long, those strange words had echoed in his mind, tormenting him, leaving him unable to sleep.
The supreme god, princes, and Queen Amaryllis... who were they?
Wait! Wasn’t Amaryllis the name Selena used during her live streams?
Balthazar tried to recall if he had missed any clues about her. Suddenly, he remembered that in a drunken state, she had mentioned being kidnapped and even giving birth to someone’s child. And in his dream, there had been talk of two princes.
"Agh!"
The memory hit him, and an excruciating pain surged through his head, forcing him to clutch his skull and writhe on the sofa. It felt as though something inside his brain was trying to break free. He kept hitting his head, trying to lessen the agony, but it was futile.
"What’s happening? My whole body... it itches... Agh!"
Balthazar screamed as his entire body was consumed by a pain so intense it felt like his skin was being torn apart. He could feel something growing out of him, like bones, but soft, like feathers.
No!
Am I turning into a monster?
Splat!
Balthazar coughed up blood and collapsed, unconscious. In the moment he lost consciousness, his body suddenly emitted a blinding light. This phenomenon lasted for ten minutes before everything returned to normal. However, the living room was now covered in feathers, as if a giant flock of birds had just flown through.
...
Selena had returned to city S. She couldn’t believe that she had come back in just one day, nor could she fathom that two of Rabanut’s divine envoys had come to find her.
They told her that he had descended to the mortal world to search for her, and the demons had learned of this. Knowing that he had no powers on earth, they were planning to seize the opportunity to kill him and destroy heaven.
Selena was utterly confused. Why was the god Rabanut searching for her? And why had his envoys come to her?
But the task they gave her was clear: She had to go back and stay by Balthazar’s side.
Upon hearing this, Selena was stunned. She didn’t understand how this involved Balthazar, but she couldn’t go against the commands of the gods.
More importantly, she didn’t want Balthazar to be dragged into this battle between gods and demons. She needed to explain everything to him and tell him to flee.
Now standing in front of Balthazar's private villa, Selena took a deep breath and approached to unlock the door with her fingerprint.
"Don’t move. If you want to live, come with me."
A female voice whispered in her ear. Selena recognized it as Amelia's voice, and she felt something sharp pressing into her back.
"Get in the car."
Amelia jabbed the knife into Selena's back, causing her to wince in pain. This woman was ruthless.
Just as Selena was about to strike back and escape Amelia's grip, one of the divine envoys' voices echoed in her ear:
"You must follow her. I can smell the scent of demons on her."
Selena frowned. She didn’t want to go. She had a baby inside her and didn’t want to risk anything, but the envoy sensed her hesitation and took control of her body, forcing her into the nearby car.
Bang!
The car door slammed shut. The driver turned around, grinning lecherously:
"Ah, my ex-wife. Finally, you’ve fallen into my hands."
Selena's eyes widened as she looked at William. His face was now covered with scruffy stubble, and his large, dark eye bags made him look years older.
Seeing Selena stare at him, William laughed and said:
"Don’t recognize your ex-husband? I’ve turned out like this because of you, haven’t I?”
Selena frowned, trying to move, but Amelia had already pointed a knife at her throat.
Amelia bared her teeth in a savage grin.
"Scared, huh? How about I carve a few lines on your face so you can stop luring men in?”
With that, she pressed the blade against Selena’s delicate skin, quickly leaving a cut as fresh blood began to flow.
The moment William saw this, he snatched the knife away and slapped Amelia hard across the face, then shouted:
"You idiot! Who said you could touch her face?”
Amelia, who had been beaten by William countless times, trembled in fear, shrinking back as she stammered:
"I... I just wanted to scare her, but my hand slipped…”
"Shut up! Tie her up and keep watch, quietly!”
Amelia hurried to comply, tying Selena’s hands and blindfolding her without resistance.
William drove off, and about thirty minutes later, the bumpy road began to shake the car, causing Selena to worry about the baby growing inside her.
Reluctantly, she spoke up:
"William, what are you planning to do with me? If you want to use me to threaten Balthazar, it’s too late. We’ve already broken up.”
William laughed while driving, replying:
"I saw you standing outside his house with your suitcase. It’s obvious he kicked you out, but don’t worry. I won’t abandon you.”
Hearing this, Amelia couldn’t suppress her anger. If William hadn’t promised to let her go after capturing Selena, she would have stabbed Selena in the chest long ago.
She looked at Selena’s beautiful face with resentment. This woman had taken everything from her. She would find the right moment to kill her and escape afterward.
