Chapter 67 Chapter 67: Losing Everything
Chapter 67 Chapter 67: Losing Everything
Uncle Luke understood this as well. Seeing that William wasn’t fazed by his threat, he began to falter.
Suddenly, Kelly spoke up:
"Forcing your uncles to sell their shares within the family business, don’t you think that’s going too far? When your father-in-law finds out, even this stepmother of yours won’t be able to help you.”
Although William was five years older than Kelly, her tone was condescending, like she was scolding a child, which infuriated him.
"You should know your place. A lowly second wife dares to flaunt herself here. Letting you into Sterling Group was a stroke of luck for you. If you had behaved, I might’ve let you keep your job. But now, that’s not possible anymore.”
William dismissed Kelly right to her face. The shareholders exchanged anxious glances. Between William and Kelly, they naturally sided with William, but they couldn’t deny Kelly’s competence. She was, after all, very capable.
Despite not having a degree in economics or even a university education, her plans and initiatives had brought significant profits to Sterling Group.
And now, because of one comment from William, she was being ousted. It wasn’t due to incompetence but personal grudges.
If one day they crossed him, would he also dismiss them without considering their contributions?
William was unaware of the shareholders' thoughts. He believed he was in the right and assumed others were just as outraged as he was that Kelly had entered Sterling Group through less-than-reputable means. He felt certain they supported his decision to fire her.
Kelly glanced at her watch, estimating that the person should be arriving soon. She stood up and said:
"You all know what I’ve done for Sterling Group. The reason for today’s meeting is that William is incapable of leading the corporation. I have no objection to him being CEO if that’s what you all support. But dismissing people left and right and forcing his uncles to give up their shares – how is that any different from dictatorial robbery?
Kelly’s persistent questioning didn’t provoke much outward reaction from the shareholders, but internally, they were growing increasingly uneasy. Only William, still basking in his perceived victory, sneered:
"No matter how eloquent you are, it won’t change your lowly nature. Kelly, you’ve been fired. Leave Sterling Group before security throws you out.”
Kelly remained standing, unmoved. William glanced at his assistant, who understood immediately and reached for his phone to call security to the meeting room.
Before he could make the call, however, the door swung open. Selena entered first, followed by old Mr. Sterling’s lawyer.
William frowned and asked:
"What are you doing here? This isn’t a place for you.”
Although he intended to bring her back to his side, that didn’t mean he would tolerate her meddling in his affairs.
Selena ignored him and sat next to Kelly. The lawyer accompanying her spoke:
"Selena is old Mr. Sterling’s adopted granddaughter. Old Mr. Sterling has transferred thirty percent of his shares to her. She is now the largest shareholder of Sterling Group.”
Boom!
Everyone in the room was stunned, their shock mixed with confusion. They had never heard of this adopted granddaughter before. Why was she only appearing now?
The lawyer distributed documents detailing the transfer to each person. Even Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke were taken aback, soon followed by anger. Their father would rather give shares to a stranger than leave them a single percent more?
They wanted to accuse Selena of impersonation, but with old Mr. Sterling’s lawyer present, they swallowed their words.
William clenched the documents in his hands, his face twisted with rage, his eyes filled with burning hatred as he glared at Selena, as if he wanted to devour her.
Could his grandfather really have gone this far? Why was he being treated this way?
If that’s the case, then don’t blame him for being an ungrateful grandson.
Bam!
William slammed the table and said:
"Transferring shares to a stranger clearly shows my grandfather’s mental faculties are no longer intact. I’ll assume the role of chairman and arrange for him to receive proper treatment abroad. What do you all think?”
The shareholders glanced at each other. Though they disapproved of William’s actions, they still supported him. He then turned to Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke, smiling as he said:
"I’ll give you both a chance to redeem yourselves if you support me.”
The two exchanged looks and ultimately chose to side with William.
"Right now, I have forty percent of the shares. The two of you combined only have thirty-two percent. I think it’s pretty clear who’s going to win, isn’t it?”
Selena smiled and said:
"It seems like you’ve forgotten about your mother’s shares, haven’t you?”
William leaned back in his chair confidently:
"She’s currently receiving psychiatric treatment. Who gave you the authority to use her assets?”
"She transferred all her shares to me before anything happened.”
A male voice rang from outside the door, causing everyone in the meeting room to look toward the source. Upon seeing who had entered, William immediately frowned and shouted:
"What are you doing here?”
Keith didn’t respond to his older brother but walked over to Selena. He gave her a deep look, filled with a mixture of emotions—longing, anticipation, and regret. In the end, all he could manage were two words:
"I’m sorry.”
Selena didn’t reply, her gaze fixed on William’s face, which had turned ashen.
Uncle Arthur spoke up:
"What is going on here? Did Keith just say he has Laura's shares?”
Keith shifted his gaze away from Selena, his expression becoming cold and indifferent.
"Yes, before my mother fell ill, she transferred all her shares to me. My portion, along with Selena’s and Kelly’s, is greater than anyone else's, so we hold the decision-making power.”
Laura had secretly transferred her shares to her youngest son, feeling guilty that he couldn’t work at Sterling Group. She probably never imagined that one day her two sons would be standing against each other like this.
William glared at Keith, his face twisting into a demonic rage. His teeth ground together audibly as he seethed:
"You dog! How dare you betray me! I’ll kill you!”
