Chapter 66 Chapter 66: Unbelievable
Both of them knew, of course, that Kelly was Brutus’s mistress. They didn’t want this woman ruling over them either, but old Mr. Sterling had personally appointed her, and they had no choice but to follow his orders.

Besides, putting her in charge might make her easier to control, and soon, Sterling Group would fall into their hands.

Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke were not old Mr. Sterling’s biological sons, so they knew he wouldn’t leave them anything. They figured it was better to seize the opportunity now and take everything in one go, so their years of dedication to the Sterling family wouldn’t be in vain.

Thinking this, Uncle Arthur turned to the key shareholders of the corporation and said:

"Although Ms. Kelly Carter has only been working at Sterling Group for a few months, her abilities are exceptional. Just last month, she secured a major project, while William here has failed time and again. No matter how big Sterling Group is, it can’t endure his incompetence."

Before this meeting, the shareholders had already reached a consensus, but Uncle Arthur, afraid they might waver after hearing William’s words, decided to sweeten the deal a bit more.

However, while the shareholders nodded as he spoke, their expressions didn’t align with the agreement Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke had expected.

Click.

At that moment, Kelly opened the meeting room door and entered. She had just given birth prematurely and shouldn’t have been discharged so soon, but she couldn’t wait to witness William being kicked out like a dog.

Though she didn’t have much affection for the baby she’d just lost, it was still her child, and its life and death should have been in her hands, not snuffed out by William’s vile actions.

Today, Kelly was dressed beautifully in a form-fitting business suit that highlighted her curves. Looking at her, no one would have guessed she had just been pregnant.

She confidently sat down in the empty chair. Seeing that the time had come, Uncle Arthur said:

"Since Ms. Kelly Carter is here, let’s proceed with the vote. All in favor of dismissing William, raise your hand."

Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke were the first to raise their hands, fully expecting the other shareholders to follow suit. But to their surprise, the others remained still, showing no intention of agreeing.

"What’s going on? Didn’t we all agree to dismiss William?"

The room stayed silent until one shareholder spoke up:

"We’re not fools. While William may have lost several recent battles, he’s still a capable man with potential. We’re not about to let some mistress take control. You two might be confused, but we’re quite clear-headed."

Another shareholder added:

"We all support William with our shares. If you two want to support Madam Kelly, then go ahead and put up your own shares for the vote."

The Sterling family held fifty-one percent of the total shares, while the shareholders divided the remaining forty-nine percent amongst themselves.

Although not all shareholders were present, those in the room today represented over thirty percent of the shares. Combined with William’s personal stake, they far outweighed Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke.

Even if they included Brutus’s shares, they still wouldn’t come close to a third of what William commanded.

Uncle Arthur and Uncle Luke were immediately flustered. They had followed old Mr. Sterling’s orders, but why had the shareholders turned against them now? Was this part of the old man’s plan, to expose their ambitions and wipe them out completely?

Yes, that must be it. Why hadn’t they seen it before?

The two of them slumped back in their chairs, defeated. All their years of scheming had been for nothing.

Watching his victory unfold, William felt immensely satisfied. He glanced at Kelly, seeing her remain calm and composed. He assumed she was merely hiding her emotions, and the thought only heightened his excitement.

He wasn’t worried about old Mr. Sterling siding with her either, because the old man would soon pass away. Once that happened, according to the original will, he would officially take full control of Sterling Group.

Little did William know that old Mr. Sterling had already changed his will, transferring all his shares to Selena, and the battle for control, which he thought was over, had only just begun.
Believing that the victory was already his, William clapped his hands and stood up, saying:

"The re-election for the position of CEO is now over. Let’s move on to the internal matters of the corporation. Uncle Luke, a few days ago, your son took money from a branch in province L without any receipts. This is an act of embezzlement. How many years do you think your son would serve in prison if I report this to the police?”

Uncle Arthur slammed the table and stood up, shouting:

"You dare…”

William merely glanced at him with a smile. Since their relationship had officially soured, it wasn’t a question of whether he dared or not.

He was pressuring his two uncles into either resigning or living like dogs within the corporation. Clearly at his mercy, Uncle Arthur had no choice but to remain silent, enduring the judgment of his nephew.

As for Uncle Luke, he was trying to minimize his presence entirely.

At this point, William spoke again:

"The corporation’s money must be returned in full. As for the law, to prevent Sterling Group from being ruined by parasites, you two should hand over your shares and enjoy your retirement in peace.”

Uncle Luke gritted his teeth and shouted:

"Don’t act so recklessly. Your grandfather is still alive. He won’t allow you to abuse your power like this.”

William sneered. He knew his grandfather held over thirty percent of Sterling Group’s shares, but now William controlled more than thirty-five percent. Even if his grandfather didn’t side with him, he could still dominate the entire corporation.

The only reason he hadn’t declared himself chairman yet was because he wanted to give his grandfather a chance. It was in his best interest not to try stripping him of power. Otherwise, not only would he take over the corporation, but he wouldn’t leave a single asset behind, and the nursing home would be his grandfather’s final destination.
