Chapter 68 Chapter 68: William's Escape
Chapter 68 Chapter 68: William's Escape
With a furious shout, William lunged at Keith. Out of guilt, Keith didn’t dodge and took several blows from his brother. Luckily, security intervened just in time; otherwise, Keith would have been beaten even worse.
At this point, it was clear how things would end. The shareholders who had once supported William all switched sides, voting for Kelly to become the new CEO, while old Mr. Sterling retained his position as Chairman.
As Selena exited the Sterling Group building, her body felt weightless. The satisfaction of avenging her father filled her with a profound sense of relief, and she imagined her father, watching from above, feeling proud that his daughter had restored justice.
"Sister Selena.”
A young male voice called from behind. Selena turned to see Keith approaching.
"I… I’m sorry.”
Keith hung his head, softly apologizing. Selena smiled and said:
"You just did me a huge favor. We’re even now.”
She turned to leave, but Keith hurried after her, his face showing clear desperation.
"Wait, I don’t expect you to forgive me for the trouble I caused before, but I realize I made a grave mistake. Please, let me do something to make amends?”
Selena quickened her pace, Keith trailing close behind. The scene was eerily similar to when the two had first reunited after she arrived in the human world.
After walking for a while, Selena stopped and turned to him.
"I don’t want to dwell on the past anymore. Just live well and be good to your grandfather. That’s all I ask, and I won’t hold anything against you.
Her words sounded like a farewell, and Keith felt a surge of panic. He wanted to say something, but Selena had already hailed a cab and left. All he could do was stand there, watching the car disappear from sight.
…
The Sterling Family House.
William didn’t dare confront old Mr. Sterling at the ancestral house. Out of guilt toward Selena, old Mr. Sterling had transferred all his shares to her. If William went there now, it would only complicate matters further. So, instead, he turned his wrath toward Laura, who was in a dazed state.
As soon as he entered the living room and saw her wandering aimlessly, muttering and singing nonsense, the fire of anger reignited within him.
He rushed over, grabbed her shoulders, and, with eyes wide and teeth gritted, shouted:
"Why did you transfer your shares to Keith? He’s your son, but am I not? I’ve sacrificed everything for this family, and now, one by one, you all betray me. Even you, my own mother! Why?”
William’s voice was so loud it frightened Laura, who trembled and began to cry, pleading:
"Please, I’m sorry! Don’t hit me, husband! I’m scared!”
Her memory had regressed to the moment when Brutus had slapped her, so she mistook William for her husband.
William realized how absurd it was to be questioning someone who had lost her mind. He needed a new target.
"Where’s Amelia? Where the hell is she?”
William stormed upstairs, kicking open the door to find Amelia sitting in front of the mirror, tending to her skin.
Seeing her, his anger flared up again. He had thought marrying an educated woman would help him advance his career. Little did he know, this woman had brought nothing but disaster.
If she hadn’t returned to rekindle their relationship, he wouldn’t have betrayed Selena.
And if only he had known how beautiful Selena would become after losing weight, there would’ve been no room for Amelia in his life. Had he stayed with Selena, old Mr. Sterling would have surely chosen him to inherit Sterling Group.
It was all Amelia’s fault. She was the jinx who had ruined his life.
Amelia was already irritated by the insufficient funds in her credit card when William barged in. Seeing him, she immediately complained:
"You need to transfer money to my card. There was a limited edition handbag released the other day, and Lucy, Mr. Donovan’s daughter, snatched it before I could. It was so humiliating!”
William laughed bitterly at her words. He walked over, grabbed her hair, and yanked her head back, his eyes blazing:
"You witch! You’ve wasted so much of my money. If I don’t beat you to a pulp today, I’m no longer a Sterling!”
Amelia had no idea what was happening when she received a thunderous slap from William, so hard that it sent her sprawling backward.
Luckily, Amelia’s survival instincts were strong, and as she hit the hard floor, she managed to shield her head with her hands.
Even so, her wrists hit the floor, causing pain, and the burning sensation on her cheek completely snapped her rationality.
"You dare hit me? Who gave you the right to hit me?"
As she spoke, Amelia lunged at William, punching and kicking him furiously, shedding all her former ladylike demeanor, now looking like a crazed woman.
Of course, William didn’t stand still to let her hit him. He shoved her onto the bed, his face contorted with rage as he pulled off his belt, grinding his teeth:
"You’re a curse! Ever since I married you, I’ve lost everything. If it weren’t for you, would I have abandoned Selena?"
Hearing him mention Selena made Amelia even angrier. She no longer feared the belt in his hand, and instead, sneered mockingly:
"William! You’re the one who begged me to come back to you. You’re the one who drove that Selena away, and now you’re blaming me? What’s wrong? Regret it, don’t you? If you’d known she would become that beautiful and be protected by her grandfather, you wouldn’t have chased after me, your first love, right?"
As soon as William heard Amelia say this, he realized she had known all along that Selena, in her new form, was his ex-wife. Yet she hadn’t said a word. If he had known, he might have prevented Selena’s revenge.
All of this was because of the foolish woman in front of him.
"You wretch! All I did was divorce Selena. I didn’t hire anyone to push her into the sea, nor did I cause her father’s death. You were the one who did all the evil deeds, and now I’m the one paying the price."
The more he spoke, the angrier he got. William lashed the belt across Amelia’s body, blow after blow.
