Chapter 56: Victims

Chapter 56: Victims
KAEL

I should trust Lilac to be okay on her own.

I should not follow her. But this nagging feeling gets the best of me and I find myself walking closely behind her, being subtle enough for her not to notice. It is when I see Russo and Caulder waiting for her that I realized she lied and she was not going to use the restroom.

We are here.

"We should find somewhere to hide." Russo is saying. This is when I step out of the shadows.

"I do not think that would be necessary."

"Holy shit!"

"Kael?" Lilac's eyes are wide as saucers when she notices me.

"It's funny how you want to find a secret organization when you can't even tell that I have been behind you."

"You followed me," Lilac says in disbelief.

"I did," I reply her. "I thought we agrees we were going to solve this together, so what is this going behind my back to find some organization or whatever the fuck this is about?"

She snorts at my outburst. "You left this morning, obviously to find some clues yourself right? Why did you not tell me too?"

Touché. "Why are you even with them?" I say instead of giving an excuse to her very accurate accusations. I did not tell her because... Actually, there is absolutely no plausible reason why I didn't tell her about what I found out at Skol this morning. Maybe because I still want her to believe that there are good people in Lycania who would smile genuinely with you and not go behind to plot your demise.

"Russo I can understand, but Caulder of all people?" I add to my earlier statement.

"You say it like she is the devil," Russo butts in.

"She may as well be."

"They both offered to help, besides Beryl is the one who found out I was the only one one who could see the entries," Lilac tells me.

"What entries?" Roman asks.

"Nothing you should worry about," I reply him sharply, "and as for whatever it is you are looking for, I guarantee that you wouldn't find it here."

"What do you mean?"

I pause, wondering if it's right to trust these two. Russo seems a little trustworthy since he took was attacked, apparently by the Klux but as for Caulder I am not really sure. But then I do probably the most foolish thing I have ever done in my life, I trust Lilac's sense of judgment and so I begin my explanation as I lead them away from the rooftop.

"There is an organization like you guessed that deals with the trading of pixie dust and wolfsbane to the cities outside of Lycania including Lyria, the human city."

"But contrary to what you might think, it is only run by one person."

"The crown Prince?" Lilac suggest.

I nod. "The crown Prince. Although he doesn't do the trading himself, he only sits back and enjoy the cash as it flows in."

"So who does it for him?"

"An agent whose undercover name is Alpha." I allow them to process that before I drop the final information. "And that's me, or was me because he found someone else." Alvin Russo, but I do not say that out loud.

"What?!" Both Russo and Beryl exclaims. I glance at Lilac to see her reaction but her face is blank as she stares ahead. It is then I notice that we have gotten to the front of the Club, and it is then I hear the sound of the sirens blowing. An ambulance, and Lyncs van.

Lilac's voice is small as she speaks. "The Klux just killed another victim." We move closer to the scene, and see three stretchers being wheeled out.

"Or victims," I say.

~

I figured out what a Klux is and I remember now from when mother told me about how a Klux was a product of a Shifter and a human and how she had only met one Klux in her lifetime. The pieces are falling into place as I watch the victims being rolled into the ambulance, and then one of their arms fall out and I notice the bracelet on that hand. Fuck! The victims.

I think Lilac notices it too because she starts to sprint towards the scene and then stops when she sees Issy who is staring at the ambulance and not moving. She is in shock.

"Issy! Isabelle!" Her eyes does not leave the ambulance as it starts to drive away and then finally when it is out of sight, she allows her gaze to finally land on a four us.

"I killed them," she mumbles.

"No, you did not." Lilac is tryng to tell her.

"I killed them," she says again.

"Issy—"

"I killed them." She raises her palms to her face. "Their blood is on my hand. Their ghosts will haunt me till I die because i killed them."

I step closer to her and then I do the most ridiculous but reasonable thing I can think of, I slap her across the face. "Come back here Isabelle Aspen!"

Her eyes snap back to life and she finally processes that we are here. "Issy," Lilac calls.

"Sunshine, they are gone. I can't see them anymore."

"Issy —"

"Am I cursed, brother?" She raises her eyes to look at me, tears falling from her eyes like a waterfall. "Is this a curse? Because if it was, I don't..." She falls to her knees while Lilac and I rusg to hold her up. I glance at Russo and Beryl who are standing there without knowing what to do. I throw the car keys at Russo.

"Fetch her car."

"Sunshine," Issy starts to speak. "Why didn't they just kill me with them? Why?"

"Don't talk like that Issy."

Russo drives the car close to us and then I lift Issy and place her at the back seat while Lilac and Beryl get in on both sides of her. I get into the passenger's side.

"Where to?" Russo asks me.

"Carla's house," I tell him. Because only Carla would know how to handle a girl who just lost three of her friends on the same day when she only just lost the first two, recently.
