Chapter 55: Skol Again [2]
Chapter 55: Skol Again [2]
LILAC
"YOU ARE NOT GOING WITH US, KAEL!" Issy is yelling at her brother.
"Unfortunately you cannot tell me what to do, Isabelle," He grits out.
"It's Issy goddamnit!"
"I'm going with you and that's final!"
"You are only going to ruin our fun, what is wrong with you brother!"
"Twice i left her in your care, and something terrible happens!"
"That's not a me problem. That's your city's problem." And then a pause. I gasp because I only just noticed the slipup, To Issy, Kael is not suppose to know that.
"You lost your memory Kael, how do you know that?"
Shit!
This time Issy' voice is low and full of so much pain I had no idea she carried. She repeats her question, rather slowly this time, emphasizing on every syllable. "You lost your memory Kael, how do you know that?!"
"Carla and I told him some things," I try to defend.
"You are lying," She mumbles. "You both are lying to me." Tears start to form in her eyes and I cannot help the guilt that stabs at my heart. "Since when? Did you even lose it at all or you were just lying all along?"
"You do not understand, Isabelle," he starts to say.
"It's Issy goddamnit!" She yells through her tears. "You've never trusted us. Not my mother, not my brother, not even me, Kael! Of all people, me!"
"You do not know why I cannot trust you people! You only know what you see Isabelle, and that's the problem!" Kael bursts out.
"What are you even saying?"
"I know things that you do not know Issy. Your family paints a good picture for you because they do not want you to see beyond their facade, but I see it. I see the hatred they have for me."
Issy sniffs, swiping at her nose. "But I do not hate you."
"This is not about you, Isabelle. This is about the people around you. That's why nobody except Lilac knows that I have regained my memories." He concludes.
Issy is still sniffing but she isn't shedding so much tears anymore. I do not know if she understands Kael, but I know she would not tell anyone. It is a gut instinct and maybe the fact that I trust Issy too much.
'Trust no one' The diary entries seems to be mocking me, but I wave it away.
"I'm sorry Issy," I say to her.
She is quiet for a while, and then she beams. "Fine, buy me two drinks at Skol and we are even."
"You are never serious, are you?" I ask jokingly.
"Life is too short to take things seriously." She glances up at Kael whose hard stare is fixated on both of us. "As for you? I will not tell a soul, but you will be our designated driver to and from Skol."
He says nothing, but I know he agrees.
"Now go dress up, sunshine. I'll be waiting for you in the living room." When I see that she is all gone, I turn back to my husband who is still standing on the same spot, fists clenched.
I do not know what to say, so I do the first thing that comes to my mind. I wrap my hands around his waist and hug him.
Kael is a wounded soul, and opening up to people has probably never been on his bucket list but now I would be his support even if he does not know that.
~
Skol club as usual is a myriad of sweaty bodies, music, neon lights and drinks. We are seated at a side, and when I say we, I mean Issy, I and her friends with a scowling Kael sitting beside me. I have not seen Roman or Beryl, what exactly did he want us yo do olin Skol anyway. I peek a glance at Kael, wondering if I should tell him about the Klux and Roman's plan of finder his master but I decide against it. He already has a lot on his mind, I wouldn't want to stress him out with this.
My phone beeps and I see it is a message from Beryl saying she and Roman are outside already.
"Uhm, guys I need to use the rest room," I yell over the loud music.
A drunk Issy nods her head while the rest of them do not even listen to me. Kael's grip tightens on my hand, making me face him. "Let me come with you," he implores.
"I will be fine Kael. It's just the restroom, I will be back soon." He starts to protest but I lean it to give him a kiss on the cheek and slowly wrench my hand free from his grip before sprinting out through the crowded club.
They are there, Roman and Beryl leaning on a car that seems like it belongs to Beryl. "You were inside?" Beryl asks.
"I am here with Issy and her friends. We need to be quick with whatever we want to do," I tell them.
Beryl frowns at Roman. "That's if he even knows what he is doing," she mutters.
"Come with me," Roman says, ignoring Beryl's outburst.
He leads us to the back of the club and then up a stairs. "How do you know this place, Roman? And why are we even here?" I whisper.
Roman stops, causing both Beryl and I to almost collide with his back. "The day I was attacked, I saw the creature and there was also a faint smell from him. Pixie dust and wolfsbane."
"That has nothing to do with why we are here," Beryl mumbles.
"Actually, that has everything to do with why we are here. Because this is the only place Pixie dust and wolfsbane is available."
"What do you mean?" I ask.
Roman sighs. "Pixie dust and wolfsbane is like crack to us Lycan, although a large usage of it would the drain the life of a Lycan. Anyways, Pixie dust and wolfsbane is not supposed to travel beyond any of the Magicals country, but in this place it is being sold illegally to humans."
Beryl and I gasp. "You mean someone in this place is dealing drugs?"
"I mean the organization that owns this place is dealing drugs," he corrects.
"The crown Prince?" Beryl stutters out in shock.
Now I am the one shocked. "Talon owns this place?"
"It's confidential information, not everybody knows."
"Come on let's go," Roman urges as he resumes walking up the stairs again. When we finally reach the rooftop, he pulls to a stop.
"We should find somewhere to hide ourselves."
"I do not think that would be necessary."
"Holy shit!" Beryl exclaims just as I almost stumble on my feet while trying to look back.
"Kael?"
