LILAC

"I killed them," she is saying hysterically. Her black curls are all over the place and eyes red rimmed with tears. She looks like she is going insane. I cannot imagine how it would feel to loose all the people she had once called friends. Even I who had only known them fleetingly can feel my heart ache at their demise. Is it Perez? Or Raul and Emery who had just celebrated their mating ceremony some months ago. My own tears are falling and consoling Issy is getting harder by the day. Carla comes into the room.

"You can leave," she says. "I'll handle this."

I do not argue with her because I am just as mentally stressed myself. So I leave her to it and find my way into Kael and my room. It is the dead of the night, probably around 12, Beryl had gone back after staying for an hour while Roman has also found solace in his room. I open the door to my room and as expected, Kael is still awake sitting shirtless on the bed.

"Hi," I say to him.

He smiles at me, a smile that does not quite reach his eye. "Hi, Princess."

My feet is frozen on the floor. Grief hangs like a canopy over the room, but even with all these, I know we need to find the klux and his master else someone else becomes their next victim.

"Come here, Lilac," Kael says.

I oblige, urging myself to move from the spot I am rooted on. i settle beside him on the bed. "You found out something, didn't you?"

I shrug. I did find out something. I am only trying to piece together the possibilities. "Carla told me one time, that the person who found the magic of reflection was your mother," I begin speaking.

"She found it from the queen of the night flower."

"And the other palace worker who found the pixie dust?"

"He was a royal guard but he was also very good with the flames," Kael replies, he seems to still not understand where I'm driving at, even I am still figuring it out.

"Which means he was a blacksmith, right?"

"His Father was, he learnt it from him. He introduced infusing the magic of the pixie dust into the palace weapons which made them deadly enough to extract the magic of it's victim when plunged in his or her abdo— Fuck!"

Fuck indeed, because I just pieced two and two together. "Either the blacksmith palace worker is still alive, or he taught someone else his skill before he died."

He was a royal guard. He was a palace worker. He was a blacksmith.

"The crest of Wylanda. Do you think the person is doing this for revenge?" I ask Kael.

He shakes his head in negtaion. "I doubt it."

"What are you not telling me Kael? What do you know?"

Kael sighs. "Listen Princess, some things are beyond our power, there are some happenings we cannot control and there are some wrongs that need to be made. But it takes someone who knows where it all went wrong to bring a balance to the crooked pattern. You should go too bed, I will sort this out myself."

"But—"

"Go to bed, Princess," he repeats and gently places a kiss on my lips. He starts to stand up, but I pull him back and kiss him again. He stiffens, seemingly surprised at my act but then he deepens the kiss. His hand slides down my back slowly and his thumb traces circles into my hip as I run my hands through his dark hair.

We break apart after what seems like hours, yet I have not noticed any change in Kael's demeanor. In fact he looks rather serene. "That's better. You need to get some sleep, Lilac," he kisses the tip of my nose and stands.

As soon as the door closes, I fall onto the bed, exhausted. The whole day has been hectic ride and even as I fall asleep, I still the bodies of my friends being rolled into the ambulance.

"How is Issy?" I sip from the coffee Carla had prepared for me while she turns over the pancakes on the cooker. Sometimes I admire Carla because she seems do good at everything she does... Is there anything I am remotely good at?

"She is asleep, she probably will be for the next six hours."

I trace my finger over the rim of the coffee mug, silently counting to three before asking another question. "Do you think she would be okay?"

Carla sighs as she turns off the cooker. "Honestly Lilac, I don't know. Loss is different for everyone, and it is also dealt with differently. And I don't know about the Princess, but loosing five people dear to her? She might never recover."

I have lost. I lost my mother and I know the pain of having someone you are so used to, slip off forever. For years I fought tooth and nail to fix my broken heart, even now it is still slightly cracked, but for Issy? I don't know how she is going to heal from all these. The nostalgia makes my throat clog and I take another sip from the coffee realizing it is already getting cold.

"Here, have some pancakes." Carla places a plate of delicious looking pancakes on the island for me. "Do you want some syrup?" She asks.

"No, I'm fine," I tell her. Even though the food looks so inviting, I cannot bring myself to eat.

Carla stares at me for a while, and then sighs before digging into her own food. The silence stretches, the only sound plausible being the sound of our fork hitting the plate.

"Do you know why you were made to marry Karl?" Carla asks, putting a cut to the jarring state of silence.

"Peace?" Father said it was because they wanted to end the enmity between Lycania and Lyria, but then I notice the look on Carla's face. "Or is there something else?"

"King Alvarez is not as kind as that, all the talks of peace were just for show, Lilac," she comments with a scoff

"I don't understand."

"As you know, Kael is a Moon Lycan, which also makes him a very strong specie of Lycan and finding his fated will make him stronger, being clseto his fated will sharpen his abilities, lolving his fated will take out the risk of him running moonmad."

I do not know why my mouth starts feeling bitter as Carla speaks, the thought of Kael is so unpleasant that I do not realize I have the fok in a death grip. "That's why he was arranged to marry me," or Milo. "Because he could never find his fated in an human?" The words coming from my mouth feels like sharrds of glass piercing my skin. I hate the thought of him having a fated somewhere. What is this feeling?

Carla shakes hger head. "Excpt they were wrong, the fates has a way of mysteries."

My brows are creased as I try to undersand what she is pushing at. "What do you mean?"

"You are his strength and his weakness, Lilac. You are his fated."

"What?!"

"The training I mentioned months ago, do you want to try?" Leave it to Csrla Manderlynto continue the conversation like she has not just dropped a freaking bombshell on me.
