Chapter 48: Love is not in the books.

Chapter 48: Love is not in the books.
Kael

Love. Pain. Death. They all work hand in hand.

I remember nothing, but I know who she is. She is the reason I exist, my soulmate.

I watch as Lilac rushes into the hospital room where her friend is. Roman Russo, Carla told me he was her bodyguard and he was also stabbed by that dagger just like I was. Something is going on, something I should know of and it is very frustrating that I have no idea whatsoever.

Carla told me I worked at the Lyncs as an office lieutenant which as far as I know is one of the most highest rank in the Lycania army, but then it is crazy how I still don't understand why I settled for an office job or why I joined the Lyncs in the first place. Loosing my memories has to be the worst thing that has ever happened to me.

So many questions... unanswered. Frustration is eating at me in the most brutal way possible. I lean back against the wall, closing my eyes to allow my mind roam the possibilities, that is until I sense something. My eyes snap open and I find myself running towards the rooftop.

I get there in hope of finding something or someone, I am greeted with nothing. Fucking intuition. Great! Now I'm wasting my time. But something is calling out to me, I can feel it. That damn gut instinct is never wrong. It always makes sense. So what is it this time?

A soft breeze caresses my skin and I feel a familiar tingle in the tips of my fingers. A shiver goes down my spine. It's not just my senses alerting me, this feeling is so much stronger than before. There is magic here. An incredibly powerful magical presence that I've never felt before.

My curiosity wins over my logic and I follow the force, the pull, the urge. I keep walking. The sky is a black, starless abyss of stars and I can't see anything that isn't made out of darkness. I keep moving forward, following that feeling.

Suddenly I start to hear whispers, and then flashes of pictures. An excruciating pain hits my head and i slump down in pain.

And then I remember.

It is sudden, it hits me like a fucking tornado. It is her face I see first, the first day I met her, the first day she had gazed up at me with those brown orbs and her black hair cascading down her back. The best day of my fucking life .

It moves on, to my family. My mother, the look on her face when she had been whipped to death because she was accused of treason. My Father, the one man I would spend all of my life hating. Talon, the crown Prince, a title that should have been mine in the first place. Talon's Family, Lola and Issy. Then Carla.

Then the occurrences. The drugging at Skol, The deaths of three people with that same dagger and then Alvin Russo.

Memories are a tricky thing. With or without amnesia, you are bound to loose some vital ones at a point in your life. But then, you know what they say? Sometimes memories are not to be trusted, which is why I am standing in front of Roman Russo's room again as if nothing has happened and I still remember zilch. When dealing with a ghost, I guess you have to become a ghost yourself.

Just wait till I get you whoever the fuck you are.

Lilac

Roman Russo keeps staring at me with a smile on his face as I sit beside his bed. He looks fine now except for the gauze around his stomach.

"Did you miss me Mikrös?" He finally speaks.

Tears prick at my eyes at his question. I might not have known Roman enough to miss him hut then I did miss him. He was the first person who had approached ms with a smile on his face. Whoever did this to him will surely pay because I would not let it slide I swear.

"Hey, don't you dare cry, before your husband comes to send me back to coma 'cos I made you cry."

I swipe furiously at my traitorous tears. "I'm not crying." I mumble.

"Good. Now can you help me tell the doctor that I'm okay and I need to leave?"

"No! You just woke up, you can't leave yet." Although I know he has to leave because someone will come looking for him. Someone who did not think he would survive the stab. That feeling keeps nicking at my skin. When did I start to trust my intuition so much? Maybe I always did but did not notice until now.

Roman pouts at my statement, and it is really funny that I burst into laughter. "What the hell?"

"Please let me go Mikrös, I've been bedridden for months. What if I rot with the bed?"

I sigh. "Where would you even go?"

"Home? I stay alone, my Parents died a few years back."

"Oh." I can only imagine how lonely it would have been for him especially when his brother was imprisoned. I only lost my mother, and the loneliness and pain I had felt was one I would never wish on someone else and then Roman had lost basically hus whole family, even his brother is nowhere to be found. Only if Kael regained his memories.

I want to ask Roman a lot of things, like who stabbed him? Or what he saw before he slipped out of consciousness. The urge to bombard him with qurstions is so strong but then it would be a cruel thing to dump stuffs like that on a recuperating patient. How is this all so complicated?

"How about you come stay at Carla's place."

"Carla? The professor?" Oh right. 8t should be Professor Carla.

"Yes. The professor."

~

Carla's home would probably turn to an hotel if care is not taken. Roman lounges on the sofa, stuffing his mouth with Pringles while Kael sits in the opposite chair glaring daggers at him.

"I have no idea how my home turned into a recuperating center." Carla says, walking in with a mug of coffee on her hands.

"Well, I'm not sick. I don't know about him." Kael retorts, his annoyed gaze still pinned on Roman. If looks could kill, Roman Russo would be dead by now.

"Hey Prince! Stop staring at me like you want to swallow me whole." I think dagger wounds does a thing to the brain, because ever since Roman woke up, he has been extra playful and deliberately getting on Kael's nerves when before he was always so edgy around him, and the royals in general.

"Stop fighting like kids both of you." Carla snaps.

I am silent, reading through a novel I had picked up in Carla's office. Thankful that for once it is real fiction and not a message from an unknown person. It seems so unreal now to read about a fictional world. One where everyone lives happily ever after. My life right now would argue with the writer a thousand times.

No one talks after Carla speaks, it is then there is a knock on the door.

"Check it." Carla says to no one in particular.

I put my book down to peer through the peephole at the other side. I blink twice and then open the door.

"Good day Princess Lilac."

It's a mailman, and he brings an invitation from the palace to the final ball of the season which will be taking place in three weeks.

How great.
