Chapter 49: Lies and Life

Chapter 49: Lies and Life
I am here again.

They say three is the charm right? I hope so.

She is on that same rocking chair, and today I see her face very clearly as if it were daylight. She is holding that baby again, and it is with shock that I realize the uncanny resemblance between that baby and someone I know—Kael!

"Lily!! Lily!" The man comes rushing down the stairs, on his hands is that same dagger. I see him. I know him. King Alaric of Lycania, Kael's Father.

"Al Please... You cannot do this to me."

"Lily." He grins maniacally. "Sometimes, you have to sacrifice yourself for the greater good!"

"What greater good Alaric! Killing me will not solve your problem!"

"I will kill you, and that abomination you call a son!"

The woman, whose name I now know as Lily holds her son protectively and leaps off the rocking chair. "Al, what has come over you! You were never like this!" The pain in which she speaks is so evident, her lips tremble.

"You have no idea! You really have no idea. If I am going to be King, this boy will not rule alongside me!"

"He is a product of our love, Alaric."

"Love is nothing but a futile word."

Shock. "You never loved me? I am your Fated!" She yells.

"Mates are not true or real. Did your mother never tell you to be wary of Lycans?"

The look on his eyes tell me two things. Alaric Aspen is cruel, and a motherfucking bastard who would sacrifice his family for his selfish ambition. Only if I could stab him with that dagger he holds.

As if on cue, a force drags me out from where I am and when I regain my bearings I find myself on the floor in a completely different location. I look around frantically for some kind of explanation but all I can really see is darkness. I turn slowly, trying to locate anyone who might be watching me.

Nothing. No one. Just the sound of my own heavy breathing. I close my eyes again and when I open them again, I finally see where I am. I know this place, it is the front of the palace.

There is a kind of gathering going on here, but this does not look like a normal gathering because when I look up I see two people, hanging on stakes while King Alaric sits on a chair and there is a little boy beside him. I recognize the boy again — Kael.

His face is bloody but still, he looks determined. So brave.

King Alaric stands to address the lookers. "We are gathered here today to witness the execution of these shifters, who have been found guilty of treason. We all know from the on start, that this land belongs only to us Lycan and as a Lycan has assumed the throne and taken it from the house of Wylanda.

This will end the war once and for all, and we Lycanians shall take back our land and send the shifters to where they belong!" He laughs and points his dagger at them before turning back to face the crowd. "And do you know where they belong? Six feet beneath the ground!"

The crowd cheers and I cannot help the sinking feeling in my stomach as two guards come up those tied on a stage, I see their faces before I am thrown back in time. It is the woman, Lily and a young Alvin Russo.

~~

I jerk awake instantly, my brain does a 360 spin before it snaps me into place. I remember the dream and the first two I had before that.

Alaric Aspen had killed his Fated because she was a shifter and had given birth to a Moon Lycan, the moon Lycan that was Kael. That explains the animosity between him and his Father, that explained the reason why he always looked at his Father with that cold look, because the man had taken the one person that cared about his existence. How fucking cruel.

Hate rises I'm me against King Alaric. I have never for once liked the man, but even now my dislike for multiplies in ten folds. I glance at Kael's side of the bed, only to realise he isn't there. Before I can think of anything, my feet is on the ground in search if him. It's way past two A.M and I'm not sure where he would have gone.

My legs lead me to the living room and it is there I see him, shirtless and sitting beside the window with a glass of whiskey in hand. My breath catches. His body is magnificent. Strong and toned. And he looks beautiful in the moonlight. The shadows of his muscles move as he moves his head side to side. I walk closer to get a better view. His long hair falls in his eyes and he pushes it back in irritation.

He doesn't move or react to my sudden presence, but I am sure that he knows I'm standing there. He takes a sip of his whiskey again, and then slowly, ever so slowly he turns to regard me and he says; "I want to be king."

I blink. "What?"

"You heard me right Princess. I want to be King." Something is different about Kael, I noticed it since morning but I had ignored it, now it is very glaring. That look is back, the dark look he always had before he lost his memories. That look of nonchalance and hatred.

"What happened to you Kael?" I ask.

"Is it wrong for a prince to want to claim his Father's throne?" He retorts sharply.

"You've never wanted the throne." I protest.

"You don't know that Princess, you don't even know me."

"We've spent four months together, and you think I do not know at least half of what you can do? If not all?" I am pained that he thinks that, but yet he is right. I do not know this man that stands before me. I do not know the man whom I have even kissed twice.

"Four distant Months Lilac. We never even went on dates or even slept in the same room for more than a day." His eyes widens as he said that. He lost his memories, he is not supposed to know that we never went on dates. He is not supposed to know that we did not share a room because I did not tell him. Neither did Carla.

"How do you know that? How do you know we never went on a date Kael Aspen?"

"Carla told me." He says sternly, his gaze roaming everywhere else but at me.

"Carla knew nothing about that. You are lying."

"I do not lie."

"What else do you remember? Or has this whole memory loss thing been a lie all along!" I yell, feeling hurt that I actually thought we were getting closer but then he just had to fuck it all up.

"I will never lie to you Princess." He says calmly. Too calmly, like I am being irrational for getting annoyed. "I will never lie to you." He repeats.

"But you did. You said you lost your memories."

Kael takes a large gulp from his whisky glass, then he set it on the table. He pushes his hands through his hair, then he chuckles dryly. "You will not believe if I say otherwise would you?"

"You kissed me. Twice. I thought we were getting closer." I sniff, rubbing harshly at the tears that are now falling from my eyes.

Nothing makes sense at all.

Nothing makes sense.

Nothing makes any freaking sense!!

My heart is breaking. Breaking into fragments of dust because I have been such a fool. "Why? Why would you lie to me Kael?" I grit out.

"You are not even fucking listening to me!" He yells.

"You have no right to yell at me! What the hell do you want to say? What excuse do you have!"

He blows out a breath through his mouth, and then he reaches out to grab my hands. "What are you doing!?" I whisper yell.

Kael places his finger on my lips in a bid to shut me up. "Just come with me, Princess." He says and then begins to pull me down to the doorstep and then slowly and quietly, he turns the lock on the doorand we step out into the open.

It is past three in the morning.
