Chapter 47: Garden Dates

Chapter 47: Garden Dates
Lilac

Feelings are a funny thing. They make you forget about the past and leaves you only focused on the present. The past is long forgotten as I snake my arm around Kael's waist, air breathing on both our necks as he rides the scooter. I have never been on a scooter before, I remember that Milo once talked about riding on one with Barry, a guy from our highschool. She was so proud of it when she said it and she had that stupid twisted look on her face, the one she always had when she got something under her grasp. That day I couldn't have cared less, but now I feel so high and free like all my bad memories are being erased. Is this because of the ride? Or me being with Karl? I certainly do not think it would be the latter.

Kael pulls the scooter to a stop in front of a fenced place with a big black gate. I have never been to this side of the city and I am wondering how Kael knows this place when he supposedly remembers nothing but I do not mention that. I let him park the bike and hand him the helmet, which he hangs alongside his on the scooter's arm.

"Are you ready Princess?" He says, grinning at me.

"I am trying to wonder what exactly I am readying for?" I reply him with a shrug.

His eyes lights up at my answer and I certainly love the brightness that his face radiates, so contrasting from the Kael Aspen I had met when I got here. I do not want to be a jerk but maybe him losing is memory was a good thing?

"Trust me Princess, it sure as hell is." He takes my arm and leads me to the gate. Pushing open the gate slightly, he let us in.

I gasp at the sight. It's a garden filled with flowers and plants, each different colour, shapes and sizes. There are even two or three different types of roses and some other flowers I can't really describe. Kael turns back towards me. His eyes shine and I cannot help but smile in return, he looks like an excited child about to show off their latest creation.

There is a tent set up with white cloth on top of a table, inside it are some plastic cups and plates for food. A picnic blanket lays next to them, along with a large basket of fruit and sandwiches and more drinks. I look back up at Kael and he just grins wider. "Do you like it?" He asks.

My smile is wide. "I love it!"

"Sit then." He says. He does not have to repeat himself before I find myself sinking into the clothed grass.

"How and when did you prepare all these?" I ask in wonder.

He throws a smug wink at me that makes my insides turn and tummy do a fucking backflip. "A gentleman never reveals his secret, Princess."

And there it is again. That stupid nickname that he gave me, and no matter what, I still get flustered every time.

After we have eaten, and drank our fill, I am laying on the blanket while Kael lies right beside me, his hands folded behind his head, his face resting on it. I can feel his body heat, almost hot enough to burn through my clothing, and if I were to move just slightly, my leg would brush against his. Our fingers barely touch but it is enough to send shivers down my spine.

I watch as the trees bend and sway in the breeze. The birds chirp, creating music that has no words and yet sounds perfect. All I can hear and see is Kael. I have never been so overwhelmed by feelings before, but with my husband so close to me and the fact that he seems like a totally different version of his former self... I cannot help the feeling coursing through my veins.

After a while Kael rolls over onto his stomach so his chin is resting on his arms, his eyes meet mine. How can I ever forget the intensity his gaze carries? It is still the same Kael in there, nothing has changed. "Do you believe in love, Princess." He asks.

His sudden question jerks me aback. "What?"

He smile, his gaze still pinned on me. "Do you believe in love?"

I have read hundreds of books, all of them painting love in that picture perfect way. I used to think love was real and true and amazing, but after years of observing real life people, I came to a conclusion... One I might not be changing anytime soon. "Love is a fairytale."

"And why do you say that?"

My mind goes back to that untitled journal, even the writer had secretly agreed with me. "Love kills. Love destroys." I tell Kael, repeating the words of that writer, and then I return his question back to him. "Do you believe in love?"

He shrugs. "I think Love is supposed to be a personal thing, you should not base your belief on other people's experiences."

"So have you ever been in love?" The question is out of my mouth before I even realize what I just asked. "Oh shit." I mumble, even if he has he would not remember. Yet, I feel that pang in my stomach. What if he actually has someone whom he was or even still in love with?

"I wish I could tell." He answers me with a smile, and for the first time I see something else in his blue orbs — helplessness, desperation.

"I can help you recall your memories?"

"That would be great, but you know? Sometimes memories are not to be trusted."

"Why do you say so?"

"Don't worry Princess, my memories will come when they want to. How about we just enjoy the moment now?"

I heave in a sigh just as Kael's fingers suddenly snakes through mine. My heart stutters in my chest as the warmth of Kael's hand envelopes mine and his touch makes my skin tingle. I blink twice, twice as I take in his features before returning to my own hand, trying hard to distract myself from those blue irises, that mesmerizingly beautiful shade. My breath seems to stop as his calloused thumb runs circles around my knuckles, making me shiver. His eyes bore into mine and a smile spreads across my features as he starts to lean forward and when he places a soft kiss on my lips, my heart skips a beat and I try to fight the grin forming on my lips. He kisses me again, deeply this time . My eyes flutter shut and I melt into his embrace, letting myself drift away in the pleasure that he brings to my body. The sound of his breath mingling with mine is all that I hear and nothing else matters for now. I feel his stubble on my cheek, the heat of his lips and the tingling feeling in my toes that I have become accustomed to after so long with him - it’s all still a new thing, still a new experience because this is the second time he is kissing me like this. His arms tighten around me until we are pressed up against each other, almost as if he wants us to be closer than this. And then he pulls away with a smile, I can feel the blush on my face.

We sit there for quite a while until the sky begins to turn dark. At that point my phone rings; its a number that I don't recognise. Kael doesn't say anything as I get up and go to pick up the phone, his stare burning holes in the back of my neck.

“Hello?” I finally manage to ask when I am able to form coherent words.

"Is this Lilac Hirav-Aspen?"

"Yes, yes that's me."

"Okay, we are calling from the Royal hospital. Your friend Roman Russo is awake. He requested that we call you."

It takes all my strength to keep myself stable as I hold the phone away from my ear, my eyes widening.

Roman!

The thought sends a jolt through me. I need to go, to get to Roman now! I need to see him, I need to talk to him. "Okay, thank you! I will be right there as soon as possible." When I cut the call, Kael is already standing beside me with a curious stare.

"Please take me to the Royal hospital." I say.

"Is something going on?"

"I will explain it all to you when we get there." I tell him.

Kael sighs and then we both start to pack up the tent.

Roman is awake and alive and I have to get to him first because I fear that someone else would also pay him a visit. Someone who is toying with Lycania. How I know that is something that is still strange to me. But I just have to see Roman.
