Chapter 46: Mysteries are Matchmakers

Chapter 46: Mysteries are Matchmakers
Lilac

Home is wherever I am with you.

~~

We cannot go back to Kael's apartment because of safety reasons, and we also cannot stay at the palace because of the King, so Carla's home will be the closest for comfort. If I said I love the back and forth we keep having because of a crisis that should not have anything to do with us, then I will be lying through my teeth. I hate it. I hate the fucking instability but what can I do? I was signed up for it from the very first day I stepped into Lycania.

I try not to think too much as I sip on the tea Carla made for me. I have not seen Carla and Kael since we got back home which is also annoying. How would a man kiss a woman and then disappear like it never happened? That's what Kael did. With or without his memories, he is still fucking cold hearted and very good at playing with people's feelings, or my feelings in particular.

With a frustrated sigh, I bring out my priced blank book(note the sarcasm) and flip open to the third entry, having read the first two.

MY words have always been in parables, only the logical mind can interpret it... But how about we come down a bit, talk about something that is actually glaring for us to see perhaps... Death is inevitable, no matter what form it comes in, but then nobody wants to die or maybe some people want to. Either way, every death has a cause and consequences just like the king's mysterious death... Stabbed in his sleep by the royal dagger. The king's death brought upon the throne the Princess's Fated and in so doing, brought woe upon us all. The Princess is gone too, stabbed also by the royal crested dagger. Unfortunately, who dares to complain, who dares to question the schemes of the one who brought us to the land? Lies I tell you.

My own death looms, I can sense it but I will escape it because now is not the time for me to die else everything will be lost. I will be back, to restore what was lost. Here is where I drop my pen and go to wait for the right time. To you who will read this, I leave you one message; FIND ME AND TRUST NO ONE._

#Last Entry

I flip open through the rest of the page and realize that there are no newer entries save for the flower sketches that seemed to run from the beginning to the very last page.

Mother used to say, clues are found in the middle of parables, they are found where you least expect them. My head seems to be in a whirling tornado as I try to process what I have just read. Someone is out there killing innocent Lycans and according to the book, it all dates back to a forbidden love story and somehow I, Lilac Hirav-Aspen, have been roped into all of this. Who said a human cannot fit into the supernal? They were certainly right.

Given the weight of the book, I did not expect it to be only three entries, it looked like whoever wrote it had planned to write more but could not. I sigh in exasperation and tuck the book back into my bag all the while trying to figure stuff out. Someone wrote those entries for a reason, apparently hid it from prying eyes and made it only visible to one person — me. And now wants me to find him or her, only if I know who the hell the person is. How I fit into all of these happenings is still a mystery, but one thing I learned from my Mother was; a reader never shies away from a good mystery. What would my mother do if she was here? I had no idea but all I know is that she would have wanted to find out the truth no matter what it was.

"Trust No one."

Sometimes stories, sentences do more than just passing the time. They stick with you, toiling with your mind and fucking up your thinking faculty. "Trust no one!"

It seemed like that sentence is being repeated consecutively in my head as I prepare something to eat in Carla's kitchen. I do not know why I am believing a random book that might not mean anything but still it could also mean the whole world and I do not want to be nonchalant about that.

"What are you doing?" Kael walks into the kitchen, I can tell it is him because of the scent that follows him.

I have learnt not to be flustered by the sudden appearance of people, because it seemed like Lycans has a knack for being subtle and creeping on you out of nowhere.

"Cooking." I reply him.

"What are you cooking?"

Actually, I am trying to make an omelette and it is turning out worse than I ever imagined. The only thing I never learnt how to do was cook. Frustratedly, I turn off the gas and face Kael. "I was trying to cook but unfortunately I cannot."

"I thought ladies were supposed to be the best cooks?" He smirks as he walks up to me. As he gets closer, I try not to let it invade my senses, but my traitorous brain takes me back to the night under the rain. Now I am not focused.

"Well, I am not Ladies." I manage to stutter out. Does he not know the effect he has on me? Like I had said earlier, he really is toying with my feelings.

"Would you like to eat out?"

My eyes widened at his question and for a split moment I almost forget that Kael has lost his memories and that is probably why he is doing this. That is probably why he is getting close to me and kissing me under the rain... Because he does not remember that he never liked me.

I push all the thoughts aside though, it won't hurt to enjoy myself while it lasts... Would it? "I don't mind eating out." I say.

Best enjoy myself before the doom comes right? Because time waits for no one.. and it is a very tricky thing, subtle and unbendable. We all are slaves to time.

\---

Kael

It started out as a normal headache, then it persisted with consistent bangings, and then out of nowhere flashes of pictures that I can not even place. Are my memories coming back?

\~~~

I lead Lilac to my scooter and hand her an helmet. Carla told me it was mine and I do not think she is wrong, because I had taken it out riding this morning and it felt so right on my hands. "Have you ever ridden this with me before?" I ask Lilac.

She stares at me with those big brown eyes. Eyes that makes me want to get lost in them. It is amazing how I remember nothing but yet this human makes me feel completely whole like even though I lost a very important part of me – my memories, I still have something glueing me together. Fucking amazing.

"No..." Is her reply to me.

I smirk at her and pry off the helmet from her hands, then I help her put them on. "Are you ready for an adventure Lilac Hirav–Aspen?!" I grin at her and then mount the scooter. She gets on behind me and slowly wraps her hands around my waist. The intimacy of riding on a scooter cannot be undermined.

"Hold me tighter Princess, I do not bite." Then I glance back at her and add with a wink. "Unless you want me to?"

The look on her face at my last statement is priceless, her face is flushed red and I cannot help the laughter that bubbles inside of me. Have I ever felt this happy? I do not think so.

The wind slapping at my face and Lilac's hands around my waist is probably going to be the best feeling I will ever experience... Well apart from that kiss in the rain yesterday. How stupid was I before my memory loss to have never kissed my wife before even though this is an arranged marriage? Very stupid I guess?

"Do you feel it princess?" I glance back at my wife as we navigate the street of Lycania.

"Feel what?" She asks over the rush of the wind.

"The ectasy! The air slapping at your cheeks? Do you not feel it??!" I yell.

Lilac is silent for a while and I wonder if she is not going to reply me, until she says or rather yells back. "The rush of adrenaline. It is bliss!"

I am shocked at her admission. Are ladies not supposed to be scared of rides like this? But not Lilac. Lilac seems to be a different specie of female, it is what makes me drawn to her.
