Chapter 163 Home?
Chapter 163 Home?
Rain
I am standing beside the hospital bed, and Sade has brought me clothes from ‘home’, so that I can change and get ready to go to said home. I don’t feel like I’m going home, but I know that is because I don’t remember it in any way. I am ready to be out of this hospital, though.
I can tell that Sade is excited, and I don’t want to disappoint him. He keeps telling me that I can’t possibly disappoint him; he’s just happy that I am well, and we are actually going home. He says he was so damn terrified he would lose me that anything we have to face is better than that possibility, so he’s happy. I guess we’ll see how all of this goes.
I take the clothes into the bathroom to change. I know that Sade is my husband, but he doesn’t quite feel like my husband right now. I also know that to have two kids and one on the way, we had to have had sex with each other, but I don’t remember any of that, so it still feels weird to think of changing my clothes in front of him. I’m glad he doesn’t give me any problems about it.
I look in the mirror while I change clothes. One thing I am surprised by is when I twist this way and that, looking at this very grown-up body I now possess, is this huge tattoo down my back. I had thought it was wild that I had a tattoo around my finger that was supposed to represent some type of wedding ring, but this is much bigger. I wish I had a better mirror to be able to see more of it. I’ll have to see what I can find at the house later. What I can see looks pretty cool.
I start to worry that maybe I am taking too long, so I hurry and put the clothes on. There’s a brush in the bag as well, so I brush out my hair, or at least what’s left of it. It is weird looking at that saved patch on the side of my head. I am supposed to come back in a couple more weeks to get all of the stitches out of my scalp. I wonder if I have any hats at the house I can use to hide this?
I take a deep breath and then use the toothbrush and toothpaste to get rid of the hospital breath I have developed, and I do feel better with real clothes on and the chance to brush my hair and teeth. I am also looking forward to a real shower.
I don’t see shoes or socks in the bag, but when I go out of the bathroom, Sade is holding a pair of sandals ready for me. I smile a little bit and hop up on the side of the bed. He goes down on a knee and helps put the sandals on my feet. I can’t help but wonder if he looked like this when he proposed to me. I guess I’ll never really know the answer to that question.
He looks up at me and smiles, “What’s that look for?”
I smile shyly at him, “Just wondering if the way you are doing that is how you were when you got down on a knee to propose to me?”
He grins a bit, “Actually, nope, I was too arrogant for that, I’m afraid. I didn’t really ask you to marry me. I basically put a ring on your finger and asked when you wanted to get married, and you laughed at me.” I actually chuckled at that now.
“Somehow I can totally see that with you. Not sure why, but I can see you telling me rather than really asking. You were older than me after all and had already been off to college, and I was back here.” He nodded.
“I missed you so damn much by then; I wasn’t willing to live without you anymore; it was too hard.” I smile, and I can feel my cheeks heat a bit with that.
He stands back up, and he strokes the back of his fingers across my heated cheek, making it heat even more. Then he leans in and kisses me on the forehead. I can tell he’d rather do more than that, but I appreciate him giving me some time before he actually kisses me. He does put his hands around my waist and helps lift me down to my feet.
We both turn and look when there’s a knock on the door, and then it opens. “Transport. I hear I have a patient who needs a ride.” I smile and move forward.
The guy is rather buff, and he doesn’t seem the type who would be wheeling a wheelchair down the halls. I get in anyway. Sade has my stuff, and I turn to look back, and he nods, letting me know he’s with me. It’s a pretty short trip to the doors of the hospital. Sade goes to get the car while the transport guy watches over me. He seems pretty alert and watching around quite a bit for a transport hospital employee, but I wave it off.
Soon, Sade is back with a big SUV. He jumps out of the driver's side and runs to the passenger side. The transport guy wheels me out, and Sade helps me get into the car. I caught a glimpse of a car seat and a booster seat in the back, so this must be our family car, which makes sense.
He thanks the guy, and then walks around to the driver’s side. He gets in, buckles up, and then turns to look at me, “You ready to go home?” I take a deep breath.
“Well, as ready as I can be, I guess. It just feels weird not knowing the place we talk about as home. It’s just this big blank there. So, not honestly sure how I feel right now besides being nervous.”
He nods, “I can understand that. Hopefully, we can make it feel like home really fast, and then it won’t seem so weird when we refer to it as such. I think being able to see it and see the kids rather than having this big blank where all that is will actually help.” I nod, hoping he’s right. I guess we’ll find out.
He nods and puts the car in gear. Then we are moving towards my future, and the place he calls my home.
